As a GenXer, I grew up in a time where healthy debate was welcomed. Matter a fact, I took debate class in highschool where we were challenged to view world topics and tasked to give debate for or against a specific topic. It challenged us and allowed us to understand there are always two sides to every coin.

In today's world, I find society no longer agrees with healthy debate. If one doesn't follow the masses and agree with society stance, they are criticized relentlessly. Matter a fact, BP even states in their policies that anyone who receives 10 or more down votes is automatically assumed to have violated their social policies and are banned from commenting.

So when did we as a society decide healthy debate was no longer acceptable?

When did we as a society decide everyone must follow the masses or be subject to disciplinary actions?

When did we as a society decide freedom of speech will not include personal opinions to express one's own views?

What happened to society?
