My 17-year-old self would be severely disappointed in the fact that I’m exhausted by 10pm every evening, and I only have about three sips of alcohol a year. But the reality is that many experiences that are exciting or enjoyable for teens and young adults are a lot less glamorous decades later. Why stay out late when I can curl up with a good book at home?

In honor of all of these things that we’re simply getting too old for, Redditors have recently been sharing what they find much less fun (or much more annoying) as they age. Below, you’ll find a list of their thoughts, so be sure to upvote the replies that make you feel less guilty about refusing to go to restaurants with loud music!

'Too Old For This’: 40 Things People Are Getting Too Old To Tolerate B******t arguing with other people.

It makes me think of Keanu Reeves. He gave an. Interview about growing older, and said he protects his peace by refusing to argue with anyone about anything. He said “2+2 is 5? You are correct. Have a nice day.”

'Too Old For This’: 40 Things People Are Getting Too Old To Tolerate Putting up BS. I'm 64 and will retire in 8 months and also just filed for a divorce and hopefully that will be done before retirement. I'm done with it all. I have looked into buying a coop condo in a 55+ community and should have one secured within a couple of months. My employer seems to think they can call me for advice when I retire, no they can't because they have been very toxic and I'm almost done playing that game. My husband thinks he can treat me like c**p and not acknowledge anything important to me, I'm done with his toxic behavior. He's still in shock that I have the guts to do it but when I made a list in writing and he wanted to continue to be married I showed him a list I made of why I needed to leave and why I should stay and the should stay list was completely blank. He couldn't even argue because it was all true on reasons I should leave.

I am not too old to start a new chapter in my life and enjoy what time I have left.

Edit: Thank you all for the encouragement. We both meet with the attorney today and divorce will be final in 60 to 90 days. This decision has taken 15 years to put in place but someone did tell me about 10 years ago when the time is right I will move forward, the time is right at this phase of my life.

'Too Old For This’: 40 Things People Are Getting Too Old To Tolerate Eating food that’s not delicious.

And I don’t mean eating unhealthily.

I mean, If I’m going to consume calories, it’s going to be delicious. Sometimes that means heating things up in the oven instead of microwave, or adding an extra ingredient that makes the dish.

I agree-food should be enjoyable . As I've got older, I've got far less rigid about meals: if I feel like eating a beef sandwich for breakfast and a bowl of oatmeal for dinner I will do.

This one hits close to home in it’s own way, it’s extremely difficult for me to quit smoking. I can’t do without a cigarette, it’s my biggest downfall. I’ve decided to try again when I’m good and ready, and I’m fully aware that won’t be for another many of years and I’m quite ok with that too 👍🏻 I know I’ll succeed when the time is right and I’m 100% mentally ready; I feel acknowledging that is a good start

Probably the hardest thing I had to go through, but managed to quit smoking cold turkey after 13 years of smoking, this was 2,5 years ago. The first few months were terrible, my boyfriend can tell for sure. -.- but went through it and can't even think about smoking again. Few odd occasions when I drink and smell somebody's cigarette I would get tempted for a second but then realise it's not worth it going trough the beginning of quitting part. Walking helped a lot, and possibly crying too :D You guys can do it, I believe in you

Same. But I applaud the people who are trying to make an effort to quit and I appreciate the ones who try to not smoke around others. I also don't understand this mentality that smokers have more friends or are more socialized. They make it sound like non-smokers have no friends or something.

all of you trying to quit, keep the goal in sight: not being a slave to the cig, not smelling awful, not tasting awful, not being able to smell or taste food properly, risking fires everytime you flick a butt, and, best of all, money saved and health can return to normal. i used a patch after SEVERAL unsuccessful attempts. don't give up! each time you try again, you are increasing your chances. 20 years post-nicotine, my pulmonologist says my lungs are NORMAL. and have been normal for likely 15 years. 🎉

I stopped smoking for 20 years but I never stopped missing the nicotine rush. When I had times of really great stress I ended up smoking a bit and then quitting again. Last year my partner and I gave up smoking for good he was a much heavier smoker than I was but all the time that I spent with him I was breathing in his second hand smoke. When he suffered a cardiac arrest and died right in front of me in January, I started smoking again to cope with the stress. I've now stopped smoking and I started vaping but this is now the last vape that I'm going to be using; after this I'm done. I'm disabled and mostly housebound so it's not like I've got much to fill my time with, and I know vaping is just as awful and probably more dangerous than smoking but it was something I needed at the time.

I was forced to quit when I got cold. Lung collapse and double pneumonia. It took a full year of patches but I did it. It's been 4 years smoke free, and I smoked for 50 years. Everyone has their time when they quit, but it can only be done if you really want it, and it doesn't matter what you take to quit, or how long it takes. It will be done when you are ready, not when someone tells you to quit

My late Dad quit smoking in 1980. 25 years later when he and Mom were visiting my half-brother, his male partner, and I, Dad developed a bleeding ulcer which was caused by bad bacteria in his stomach. The fact that he had quit smoking all those years before and never ever drank alcohol were two reasons he recovered quicker.

The month before he died, as he lay in his hospital bed because his weight dropped from 175 lbs. to 139 lbs. due to a tumor on his lung, he said, " I wish I'd never picked the things up." Contact your local housing authority office. Inform them of your situation and that nothing is being done about it. Have an inspector come by when you know your neighbor is smoking. Being allergic to cigarette smoke may not be considered a disability, but it could still work in your favor.

Life is so much better when you're not paying attention to the news. If you think all the bad stuff that's going on is all reported to the news, not a chance. It's just a tip of the iceberg, the ones who bothered to report it to the news. Every now and then there's a good, uplifting story, but not often enough.

I was too old for this when I was of legal age to do this. Loud, dark, smelly, the music is weird, someone has to watch your things, drinks are expensive.

No one even wants to go out for coffee or go do something, and actually make it to fruition. "Oh, I'll give you my facebook." What? Why? Then you go friend them and they friend you but never chat with you. What was the point?

I don't care who did it what with who. There's a divide in my family right now, and it's all to do with the older generations. They've tried getting all the younger generations involved but we're not playing that game. To hell with all of them.

Long conversations. Please wrap up whatever you need to say in 3 minutes or less. I zone out on each Teams meeting I have at work. I simply can’t stay engaged for longer than a few minutes (this might be a mental issue the more I think about it).

'Too Old For This’: 40 Things People Are Getting Too Old To Tolerate Caring. Growing up I was a people pleaser due to the abuse my bio mom did to me. Now being older, I’ve come to realize that I give less and less effs about if I make someone like me or not.

Took me a long long time to learn that People Pleasing does more harm than good. And that niceness and kindness are two different things. You should always be kind, but you don't always need to be nice. And you do not need to sacrifice yourself for others. Care for those that care for you, and forget about the rest. So many of us are so conditioned to find our worth in the approval of others - and it's destroyed our self esteem. F**k people pleasing.

'Too Old For This’: 40 Things People Are Getting Too Old To Tolerate I used to go to the bar on the weekends, play darts, listen to the band, etc. It was fun!

Now it's just crowded annoying people, loud music and overpriced beer with a cover charge.

I'll still make an appearance for some food or to watch a game, but more of a happy hour thing.

I’m getting too old for social media.

I used to care 20 years ago with MySpace, and then Facebook. But in these last 5ish years I’ve just stopped caring.

Instagram, Twitter, uhhh whatever is out there. Snapchat? TikTok? Fk it. It’s all stupid and there is so much out there. Now I’m reading threads… UHG.

Social media used to be cool, now it’s a lame waste of time. I don’t want my private life public anymore and I only honestly talk to 5-10 people regularly out of the hundreds of friends I’ve made in my lifetime.

Not really an age thing, just whether you can give it the time it needs, or indeed whether you're interested. I was never able to cope with Facebook, realising that I really don't want to know every day what people are up to, and I certainly don't expect anyone to be interested in my day-to-day existence either.

Mainstream music

I am old. I don't like auto-tune. I don't like people speaking lyrics. I'm tired of how music went from what seemed like 5 or 6 genres all feeding each other country, s**t rap, or annoying pop.

I can still dig some Adele and T Swift though

Some of Gen-Z, I feel like. I just came across a video from someone who suffers from "time blindness," aka not being able to show up to work on time.

That's a *you* problem, sweetie. Get your s**t together and f****n be a productive member of society. You think that the world's supposed to cater to you? Nah, f**k outta here with that! I absolutely *dread* going into work most days, but I'm getting paid good for a good job, I'm going to be able to pay off my college debt in a few years, I'm going to use some of my grandmother's inheritance to put a down payment on a house soon, and I'm planning on getting married to my girl and traveling the world. Not only that, but I have 3 square meals a day, a roof over my head, a car that works, and a job that although sometimes dreadful, I can still get up to work on time, because not everyone is a pussy who can't get to work because you think the world revolves around you. I'm sick of people in Gen-Z who think that the world is going to cater to them. Nope. Not happening. Suck it up, buttercup. Rant over. Have a lovely week, everyone!

I feel like this was a poorly articulated video. She stated that she was cut off from finishing her question and the interviewer jumped to a conclusion. I get this because this happens to me all the time and I'm left dumbfounded and unable to finish speaking. It's a mindfuck game. The interviewer could have asked for more clarification or some examples. Obviously, this girl made it to the interview. Didn't hear anything about her being late but the interview went ahead enough to get that far, so I'm assuming that aspect. I've never heard of time blindness, however I do know a symptom of Dyscalculia is a difficulty with time recognition and time lapses. Sure, there's been the odd time I've been late for work, missed the bus, as many people have. I make sure my alarm is set and trying to keep tabs on the clock frequently. It's not always easy but it's not something I expect my work to "accommodate" me for. It gives the impression it's a habitual problem when it's not.

I still do a lot of stuff - laying floors at the moment, new kitchen install i the next few weeks, but I have to budget on max four hours a day actual physical grind, and to avoid having any hard deadlines - rushing to finish a job will result in more errors, more stress.

Customers that don't know what they want. I work in a male dominated industry, when the 98% old man customer base is assisted by a female, they have no idea what it is they want. They will stutter and sputter but then catch a glimpse of a man in the background, they want the be served by a him. Dude, he doesn't know 1/2 as much as I do. They get schooled very quickly.

I have to agree to a certain point on this one. My husband used to wear suits 6/7 days. So he has 7 suits with a cycle to replace one every year or two, with the accessories. We went to his favorite store and this lady shows him tons of stuff that we really don't like (the cut, the colors, etc.). She is not listening and wants him to be "hype". After 1/2 hour of this, an older man comes over and offers to take over. We all agree because all three of us were really frustrated by that time. The guy starts and ends up selling us 2 full suits (w/accessories), shorts, summer shirts, shoes, and socks. And. It took less than 45 minutes.
