Waiter Takes Revenge On “Karen” Who Didn’t Tip, And The Internet Isn’t Having It

A waiter went viral after calling out a woman for not tipping on a $650 takeout order, sparking debates on tipping etiquette.

23-year-old Dean Redmond took to his TikTok page on Friday (15 March) to call out a woman who allegedly “didn’t tip” him and his colleagues on “a $650 takeout order.”

In a video, which has amassed 922,400 views, Dean, who works as a restaurant server and uses his social media to post rants about his workplace, explained how a customer placed a “50-item order” at 9:00 am, which meant he had to call her up and warn her it would take an extra 30 minutes to complete.

Dean received an unpleasant response from the customer, whom he nicknamed “Karen.” expressing dissatisfaction at the additional wait time and hanging up without further communication.

The restaurant worker went on to assume the so-called Karen was “kidding” after she replied “no” to Dean’s request to give them more time to prepare the order, as employees in the kitchen were working hard to get the order ready for 10:00 am.

Dean explained that at 9:30 am, the customer came to the restaurant and “confronted” one of his co-workers.

The content creator subsequently confronted her, noting he was the one to speak to her on the phone. As a result, the woman allegedly responded: “You asked me if we could give you 30 more minutes, at which point I said no.”

The angered customer went on to compare her experience to the one she’s had with Panera and Chipotle, arguing waiting times were shorter.

The woman refused Dean’s offer of some water, and upon collecting her food, she didn’t leave a tip “on a $650 order,” Dean exclaimed in shock.

The stunned server said: “Not $5, not $2, nothing. No thank yous, leaves.”

Dubbed “Karen,” the customer left without expressing gratitude, leaving the server shocked

“Forty minutes later, I got a tap on my back. I turn around. I almost jump when I see her.

“She’s like, ‘Is there a reason you gave us all dry sandwiches? No ketchup, no hot sauce, no mustard?'”

“I am so done. I almost dragged her by her head over to the self-serve center where it literally says self-serve sauces.”

You can watch Dean’s rant below:

Dean further revealed that his difficult customer “had the nerve” to write a “bad review” about the restaurant after the quarrel.

According to the restaurant’s manager, the review claimed Dean and his team “purposely” served the Karen “dry sandwiches” because they were “mad she came in early.”

But as a result of leaving her real name in the review, Dean said his team managed to track her down on Google, discovering that she worked at a company located nearby.

Dean recalled: “So we went on to Google reviews with our parents’ accounts and wrote her really nice reviews with her name in them.”

While some viewers agreed with Dean, others expressed different opinions

Is this person 23 or 13? Throwing a tantrum about doing your job, then using mommy and daddy's accounts to post "revenge" reviews is pathetic, making a tiktok about it and pouting down the camera even more so.

I work with a lot of younger people. I have never seen so many grown adults throw temper tantrums. They get written up, have more senior managers have to talk to them, to it escalating to HR. The HR one was because someone felt "picked on" because they were laying on the concrete floor, on their phone, instead of working. I'm not knocking every person, but I never experienced this type of behavior from anyone other than a toddler before.

Check. Dull person just complaining for internet attention? Check. Please don't post garbage like this.

He asked if she could wait an extra half hour, she said no. If she wasn’t allowed to say no, why did he ask her? Do they not include sauces in takeout orders? So every Uber eats guy goes and puts sauce on the food they are delivering? Then he gets into it with her, has a review war and makes a TikTok. This guy is likely fired by now for cause.

Too many people use questions when there is no choice. If there is no choice, then make a statement. Don't ask people's permission. " With an order of this size, we will require an additional half hour to prepare it. It will be ready at (insert time)."

Why would you tip on a take out order. You are literally doing a job you receive an hourly compensation for. If it's not enough, find a job with a better company, don't insist that we make up for where the company you work for fails. You should be mad at the restaurant NOT the customer, besides, you sound like a major drama queen.

You’ve got a wicked difficult row to hoe if you wanna stop the world from using a word. Unless it’s an evil one, it’s not gonna happen. Good luck with those windmills! (Here’s a hint for your crusade: Telling people “it’s wrong to disparage a name” is gonna get you laughed at heartily because it’s not a universal rule but rather your feelings on the matter.)

I don't work in that industry so maybe it's different, but you could lose your job doing that if you're not a company spokesperson because you're damaging the company's reputation, not just by drawing attention to the customer's negative experience but by acting like the voice of the company. Bet this guy's managers are still trying to deal with the fallout. We're all paid to do a job, like it or not.

Incorrect Headline: "Waiter Takes Revenge On “Karen” Who Didn’t Tip..." He is NOT a waiter, and does not perform the services or deserve tips that are associated with that job title and pay structure. Tips are not required, nor should they be expected for takeout counter service.

If you live in California you already get $20 per hrs minimum. For doing what?? Complaining!!! Wow. Doesn't matter how much the order is if it's a take away then no tip period. A good review comes with good customer service and I se no good customer service here. If the customer said no those orders should have been ready when first promised. Not 30 min later. Also, typically take away orders are to be provided condiments, since they are not eating in the building. Especially if the sandwiches claim to have those condiments. No Karen behavior here. Just spoiled lazy brat behavior. Such a shame people think this is the standard now. No hard work no above and beyond. Just pathetic. .

For sample if someone order sandwich worth $650, that's like 65 sandwich order, that's quite a lot, but i people usually order but didn't tip and i'm okay with it. But i will decline to do catering order for like 500-1000 ppl when there's no tip.
