The saga of the couple caught on a ‘kiss-cam’ at a Coldplay concert continues to grow.

New information has been discovered about Kristin Cabot’s financial situation, including a million-dollar mortgage she just took out with her real husband, Andrew Cabot.

Andrew Cabot is the heir to the Cabot family rum and shipping dynasty, one of Boston’s oldest and wealthiest families, with an estimated worth of about 15 billion U.S. dollars.

Highlights
  • The HR executive who was caught on a kiss-cam at a Coldplay concert just signed a million-dollar mortgage with her actual husband.
  • Kristin Cabot was caught canoodling with Andy Byron, both of whom are married to other people, in a now viral moment.
  • Cabot and her husband, Andrew Cabot, signed a mortgage for a property in New Hampshire earlier this year.

Kristin’s fling, also named Andy, was the CEO of Astronomer.io until his recent departure from the firm due to the “kiss-cam” incident.

It was the kiss seen ‘round the world. The now viral video showed Kristin Cabot, an HR executive at Astonomer.io, snuggling with Andy Byron, the CEO at the company, during a Coldplay concert in Boston recently.

Because the two were having an affair, when their image was broadcast onto the jumbo tron screens around the stadium, both Kristin and Andy recoiled in fear, afraid of being noticed.

Kristin covered her face with her hands, and Andy ducked down awkwardly out of view.

But their actions weren’t enough to spare their demise. Coldplay’s lead singer Chris Martin immediately called out the couple’s strange behavior, saying, “Either they’re having an affair or they’re just shy.”

By now, the whole world knows it was the former.

But new information about a mortgage the pair took out earlier this year could throw a wrench into any divorce proceedings Kristin or Andrew Cabot may choose.

According to a story in The Sun, who claim to have seen public records, Kristin and Andrew took out a $1.6 million mortgage earlier this year to finance the purchase of a $2.2 million home in Rye, New Hampshire.

In real estate listings, the four-bedroom, two-bath estate is described as a “fixer-upper,” complete with a wrap-around porch, fruit trees, a two-car garage, and just two miles from the Atlantic coast.

Experts say that if Kristin and Andrew Cabot end up filing for divorce, the mortgage could become a sticking point.

Although they have not filed for divorce, the Cabots’ million-dollar mortgage could pose a problem

Since both Kristin and Andrew’s names appear on the mortgage, either one of them could be held fully liable for repayment of the loan, regardless of who occupies the home.

If Kristin and Andrew divorce and do not live in the house, they can sell or refinance the property, or draft what’s known as a quitclaim deed to transfer ownership.

Still, those options don’t relieve them from their responsibilities and could further complicate proceedings.

Although no divorce papers have been publicly filed, The Sun reports that sources close to the family say tensions have been escalating.

Reports suggest that Kristin has been staying elsewhere and that Andrew has been living in the house in Rye, New Hampshire.

There is no confirmation on whether either Kristin or Andrew Cabot has taken steps towards an official separation.

The situation has cast a new light on Andrew Cabot’s prestigious background.

According to Cabot’s company website, he is the sixth generation descendant of Andrew Cabot (1750-1791), the rum distiller and successful American Privateer with a fleet of more than 25 ships.

The website says their spirits include New England White Rum, New England Reserve Rum, and a half dozen or so others that range in price from $55-$70 per bottle.

There’s an old saying that is known in the Boston area that goes: “The Cabots talk only to God.”

The statement was uttered as part of a poem recited as a toast during a dinner in the 1910s.

According to historical documents, John Collins Bossidy, who was an ophthalmologist in Boston at the time, made a toast at the Holy Cross College alumni dinner held in Boston in 1910.

And this is good old Boston,
The home of the bean and the cod,
Where the Lowells talk to the Cabots
And the Cabots talk only to God.

The poem was an instant hit for seeming to poke fun at the elites of those days, the Cabot family and the Lowell family.

As privateers, the Cabot family owned ships that engaged in what was known as “commerce raiding,” in which independent contractors working for the government were allowed to destroy or disrupt enemy ships.

This. I couldn't believe it when I saw it on the BBC news. Disasters around the world, good works around the world, the Chagos Islands, Palestine, Ukraine, Syria, but *this* gets space in the news???

The poem about the Cabots goes back far further than 1910. It dates from the colonial days of Massachusetts when the Cabots and Lowells virtually (used in its proper sense) ruled Boston, with the Cabots being the 'premier' family and the Lowells only slightly below them. The original final lines of the poem were 'Where Lowells speak only to Cabots / And Cabots speak only to God'. Incidentally, it was the Lowell family's immense wealth that allowed the great American astronomer, Percival Lowell, to build and equip the Lowell Observatory in Flagstaff, Arizona. There endeth today's lesson.

Weirdly, the phrase is 'burying the lede'. Why 'lede'? It's a deliberate misspelling of 'lead' that at first was used only with this particular phrase, and nobody really knows why. All that is known is that the phrase - complete with the misspelt 'lede' - first appeared in journalism in the 1970s and 'lede' was soon adopted as the 'proper' form when referring to the main point of a story.
