To End Victim Blaming, Artist Draws Illustrations Explaining Why It’s Wrong
Victim blaming is a dangerous logical fallacy in which the victims are blamed for the actions of the people bullying or abusing. Katarzyna Babis, an art student in Poland, decided to tackle this issue with simple comics that illustrate the problems with different forms of victim blaming.
"Lots of my friends experience such situations in their [lives] and I wanted to help them," Babis told MTV. "I wanted to turn my social media popularity into something meaningful. I think it’s really, really important to know you’re not alone with your problem."

I've been dealing with depression since my teens. I'm now 60, for awhile I was doing pretty OK, then the meds stopped being effective, they do that doesn't seem fair. But nothing seems fair right now. We, my Doctor and I as well as my husband who is a Board Certified Psycho- Pharmacist are trying to find to find a medication or medications that are as effective as what I was on. It's hard, I just want to be happy again, and this affects everyone in my family. Thank you for this, maybe it will help people understand that getting out and working or doing other stuff doesn't work. And you just can't "Cheer UP!"
I was raped when i was 18 after the incident, my parents would tell me to leave the room because i was a reminder of their embarrassment.
I think the caption completely misses the point. Using 'girl' as an insult means there's something wrong with being a girl. Heads up, it's not about the wounded daddy. It's about his wounded daughter. It's about all females. A dad getting called a girl should be thinking about who's listening, not himself. Back up your daughter or wife or mom, teach your son a lesson.
Why are people correcting the spelling ? Get over the extra o, these images have a serious message to them !
i have been dealing with depression for nearly fifteen years, and yet doctors have never been able to find anything wrong with me. . .
Frankly, a lot of gay people have a lot better fashion sense than straights!
I think the point of this one went over your head a bit.
Load More Replies...I don't think "gay" was being used to describe the item of clothing as something a homosexual would wear. The term "gay" is being used a derogatory term and associated with something negative or discriminatory. Don't think it's a fashion statement.
well for once, I can proudly say I don't give a damn about what everyone thinks. I have a warm "girl" scarf and i wear it almost everyday. I wear a "girl" hat as well and "woman" perfume. Women have more colorfull and lovely clothing, men HAVE to wear allmost all black, gray, brown, blue and all of those in dark shades. And for god's sake, I'm the one smelling my self all day, so it's my choice what to wear as a perfume. I'm glad my beloved one understands me and doesn't say I have to be 'manly'.
I'm gay, multiple people called me gay before I recognised it and now I just take it as a compliment and laugh at THEM! HAHAHAH
These seem to be missing the mark. When someone calls something "gay" as an insult they are not implying that whatever it is is only intended for gay people. They mean it as "stupid, dumb, uncool, etc."
The original meaning for gay was joyous and carefree, so I like to think that they’re just illiterate idiots who just called my scarf happy.
So shorts made with a bunch of intentional holes to show off your junk aren't gay? Tell that to my gay friends. Those shorts are pretty gay.
I prefer the old 00's expression of 'pants' to show disapproval than 'gay'.
With all gay and girl thing, I think somewhere we need to stop reacting so much about it , Since globalization has happened we all have become sensitive over every small thing, dont call me fat, dont call me girl, dont call me anything which I feel is remotely true in smallest way I am all up for women rights(I am a women) , gay rights and equality rights but I am tired of people targeting usage of words its never the word its the "tone" and situation. We often call our friends too "macho" when they are being insensitive, does that mean being macho is insult, yes at that point of time but no overall. When we label these people we mean extreme of that category we don't mean insult to the category type Bad things will happen, lets learn to be stronger and face small petty things then to just stop people from saying "words". When you do what you like, (wearing scarf in this case) after then you might change people perception, not by asking them to stop calling "words"
I have an absolutely gorgeous and super-soft black cashmere scarf that fades to a white/grey toward the ends that I bought to go with my replica WW2 black bomber jacket. It's not a "gay" thing - it's a clothing accessory and it keeps my neck warm.
Well, if you call something gay it doesn't necessarily mean homosexual or anyhow sexually oriented..
That's because the person is probably using it as an insult meaning that's stupid or lame. This is discriminatory because it aligns being homosexual with being stupid or lame.
Load More Replies...Sometimes I see people misunderstaking depression with sadness, so that's (I think) many times despression is underestimated. People sometimes take depression as a cry for attention and don't take it seriously. So... I think people should start to say 'Im sad' instead of 'Im depressed'.
Unfortunately, because people who are sad or unhappy interchangeably use 'depressed' instead, people don't hear it as a cry for help when someone who is seriously, dangerously depressed says they're depressed. The point isn't to look at someone who says they're depressed and try to decide IF they need help, it's important to take anyone who says they're depressed and listen to them. Someone might be *Depressed* or they might be sad, but either way they've told you as a cry for help... if you don't want to help or can't, at least take it seriously enough to find someone who can help.
Load More Replies...Amazing. Don't forget the make victims of sex assaults by female perpetrators are sometimes touted as "lucky" and not victimized. And gay couples are not immune to domestic violence.
Just love this piece, such wonderful emotive works that express the mood and message so wonderfully and heartfelt, been there..
people are judgemental pricks and there is nothing you can do except ignoring it.
I really hated the way #3 was made as ONLY an insult to men, when it is really even more of an insult to women. Insulting men by calling them females is basically saying that to be like a woman is the worst thing you could be. Which is just another damn think we have to deal with in this very misogynist world. As women we are made to feel "less than", like we are weak and worthless and inherently somehow inferior to the male sex. It's disgusting. We should be equals. Women are individual humans too.
I actually think that depressed people should work hard. They should take shovel or something and work on the field or garden. Not because i think that they're lazy. Just because it works for me. Get out of office on fresh air. Work hard on simple manual tasks that do not involve much of thinking. Oxygenate brain, heat up body. Get tired as f**k and sleep really well after this. It's a good advice. I can reccomend it.
Should add "She's so fat she must eat like a pig" many poor people are overweight because fattening foods are cheaper.
That's so gay! Me: Why thank you! Also, as someone with anorexic history, it's not a body type! It's mostly a feeling of loosing control, being body shamed, feeling not good enough, and much more! Someone would see me and would say, you're too skinny to be anorexic
I better print a couple thousand of these and keep them in my pocket... There are a lot of a******s in my school, even with the awareness programs
These illustrations are perfect example. And these are only a few. Congratulations for your idea!
Very nice drawings and pretty much spot on commentary about life stuff.
Thank you, Katarzyna Babis. You have captured the bleakness of the diseases beautifully. I applaude your work and your style.
