People understand many things in different ways and that is fine but sometimes it seems people seem to understand something in a way that seems so upside down that it seems to end up breaking reality. Please describe your ideas! (Examples, racism? Poverty? Left wing or right wing? Religious?

I got the idea for this from a dear Abby letter about forgiveness. A lady said, “if I say I forgive her, it’s like I’m agreeing with what she did.”
I think people often think of forgiveness in a way that leaves them trapped. They often feel guilty because they have been taught they should do something that, as they understand it, is crazy(like above) or destructive(like if I forgive him I have to act normal with that person.)

But if you think of forgiveness in the same way as forgiving a debt it works differently.

He hurt me, it was wrong, he can never pay me back or fix it. Forgiveness means letting go of the debt. I do not need to keep the anger he deserves. It just poisons me anyway. It does not make it less wrong, less evil, etc. Also, I can move forward in a defensive mode. If I forgive someone for breaking trust, he may still be untrustworthy!
