Trans Actor Elliot Page Exposes Hollywood’s Bleak Reality After Massive ‘The Odyssey’ Success

Elliot Page played Greek soldier Sinon in Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey. Despite his limited screen time, Page’s performance earned praise from viewers and critics. The film later grossed $1.5 billion at the global box office.
However, Page recently revealed during a podcast appearance that the film’s critical and commercial success had not led to any meaningful new opportunities.
On September 1, Page appeared on an episode of On Film…With Kevin McCarthy, where he discussed his role in the second-highest-grossing film of 2026 so far.
When McCarthy asked whether the film’s success had led to more acting offers, Page simply replied, “No.”
“It did not,” the 39-year-old added.
The actor said it was “a little tricky” for him to land roles in major productions for “obvious reasons,” referring to his experiences since coming out as a trans man in 2020 and undergoing gender-affirming care.
Page stated he was actively searching for new projects and had no plans to step away from acting.
“I’d really love to do ideally good work,” he said.

A clip of Page’s comments quickly gained traction online, receiving more than 3 million views on X in less than 24 hours. Users were divided over Page’s suggestion that his trans identity had limited his acting opportunities.
Some users expressed surprise at Page’s comments, particularly after praising his performance in The Odyssey.

“Elliot was so brilliant in The Odyssey. It’s insane that his phone is not ringing off the hook,” one user wrote.
Another user argued that Hollywood remained a “deeply transphobic” industry despite recent efforts to promote greater diversity, which also led to backlash surrounding Nolan’s casting choices.
“Right-wingers love to claim Hollywood is woke now when the reality is many actors within the LGBTQ+ community continue to be pushed aside and denied major opportunities,” they wrote.
Some critics argued that Page had received more leading roles before transitioning, though others strongly rejected that framing, describing those comments as “transphobic” and voiced their support for Page.
Elliot Page reflects on working with Christopher Nolan again after Inception
During the same conversation, Page also reflected on working with Nolan for the second time in his career.
Page first worked with the filmmaker on 2010’s Inception, where he played Ariadne.
Page said that although he had “a great time” working on the film, he felt “very uncomfortable” portraying a female character at the time because of his gender identity, which he had kept a secret.
However, while working on The Odyssey, Page had a completely different experience and felt more confident. He described the entire process as “cathartic.”
“Like when I wrapped on The Odyssey, I had a moment like there was a like a full circle moment,” he said.
Page also said he was blown away after reading Nolan’s adaptation of Homer’s epic, comparing the experience to reading the screenplay for Inception for the first time.
“I’m grateful to Chris for having me be a part of this,” he added.
