A temple was attended by officers from Ontario’s Peel Regional Police last week for a lecture on mindfulness meditation and Buddhist philosophy.

Meditation is a means of transforming the thoughts. Buddhist meditation practices are a serene seeing of the authentic nature of things, and techniques that support and develop concentration, clarity, mental positivity. You learn the routines and customs of your head by participating with a specific meditation practice, and the practice offers a means to cultivate new, more positive ways of being. With patience and routine work these nourishing, concentrated states of mind can deepen into energized and deeply peaceful states of mind. Such experiences can result in a fresh comprehension of life and can have a transformative effect.

“They were very nice and they liked it and they think it should be part of their daily practice,” Saranapala told The Huffington Post Canada. “I believe normally people have negative feelings about the police officers, and seeing some policemen attempting to do mindfulness meditation, [and] being at the front row of a Buddhist temple, they believe it’s hardly neutral.”

Saranapala — who says he was given the nickname Urban Buddhist Monk by pupils because he was a city monk” — said he’s offering a class that is similar in May to Ontario Provincial Police officers.

To grow as a community striving towards peace executing practices that are executing can make an immense difference in our world. Police officers seek to prevent crashes and crime, enhance public safety, discover and bring wrongdoers to account, and keep law and order. They cannot bring justice to society without using a still that is centered from deep within so they can serve others from a location of balance and equality. Bringing Meditation to a spot full of violence can transform our world by bringing peace.
