I stumbled upon this family one Sunday while taking photos on the beach. Immediately the ease of kinship between the brothers captivated me and I asked if I could photograph them. They said yes and went to pose, but I shook my head. Softly I said, “Just be You.” And they took off running :)

Bloopers or Candids?

I was trying to loosen these kids up by asking them random questions. I asked who was the youngest of the group just to be funny and the young man to the left raised his hand without thinking out of nervousness. This was the moment after that moment.

Losing the Race

Just before the finish line, the youngest boy loses his footing and falls to the ground. He is smiling and laughing on the way down but then he feels my presence photographing him. His body relaxes into the pose and he allows me to capture this moment of Humility.

I pray that one day we will present this beautiful young African American man with an America deserving of his Respect and Admiration.
