While that works in theory, the sad fact is that politeness, basic respect, and even common sense are in extremely short supply these days. Unfortunately, some people have run out of all three and substituted them with spite, jealousy, and messiness.
We firmly believe that having good, cheerful, helpful neighbors is a gift from heaven. However, they’re pretty rare in this day and age. To help you value the people you live next to right now more, Bored Panda has collected posts about the very worst things that neighbors have ever done. Nobody should have to live next to these individuals. And we wouldn’t wish them even on our worst enemies.

There was a somewhat similar story in France. The tenants left a house in disarray with garbage from floor to ceiling. Since it was in a small village, the landlord was able to find their new address, rented 5 trucks and dumped their trash on their front door. It was very public and in the news.
According to the professor, there was a focus on engagement, and folks wanted to “get to know their neighbors.”
“Kids also had a lot of free time that would be spent outside because there was more freedom to run, to be loud, and to engage with other kids in the neighborhood.”

If no one is going to say it, then I will…. That’s a ficus. It’s an indoor plant in most places, and the pot does not appear to be dirty enough to be outdoors 24/7. Last one: who the heck puts grandmas antique pots OUTSIDE?! I call BS.

1 - hate to say it but doesn't look *100 years old...2 was it perhaps an accident? Honestly looks like it fell off a ledge maybe - and if it was *100 years old would be fragile - but looking at it, it doesn't appear so...those roots are also super dry - it's all roots, and absolutely no soil, like zero soil....so could have bust on its own? Just sayin'....

Wonder if they are assuming the damage was deliberate because they've had issues with the kid in the past, or if they know it was purposefully done. Also, some planters can break in time due to weather conditions, can't tell what it is made of but when it comes to clay stoneware is less likely to chip/break than earthernware. If it really was 100 years old, then time could have made it fragile. If it is important to them, they need to try looking into repair options like the Kintsugi pottery repair method.

hmm apart from there's no way it's 100, that ficus is about to break the pot open with its rootbound situation anyway. The art style (dripping blue from base), and the type of ceramic cross-ection (machine moulded), tells me this is a 1998 pot.

We're only looking at the aftermath here; OP didn't say that they specifically saw the kid do the act. With how root bound that plant is, it's reasonable to suspect this may have happened on its own. Bound roots can exert a LOT or pressure on solid surfaces (ever seen plant roots bust through a sidewalk?), that combined with a temperature swing, and possibly an existing imperfection in the planter and "POP": a chunk flies off, imbalances the planter, and the whole thing tips over. Granny may just be ageist with a victim complex. Reminds me of another BP post where an elderly couple destroyed their mature fruit trees because they thought their neighbor was stealing all the fruit while they were out of town; turns out it was birds.

100 days old maybe, but that isn't anything like what a 100 year old planter would look like. That looks exactly like a potted tree you can buy at any Home Depot. Why do people feel the need to lie?? Does it make it worse that it was an old pot or a valuable pot? Don't put your cherished planters on the edge of your porch if you don't want to risk someone bumping them and breaking them. Take better care of your c**p, man.

Epoxy is perfect for (and stronger than) ceramics, so it is indeed fully repairable. That said, that plant should be placed im a bigger pot. It's so root bound that it would have broken the pot from expansion eventually anyway (assuming that's not what actually happened)

Don't use gorilla glue (expanding polyurethane) to repair broken ceramics, it will push things around while it cures and make a mess. It also only has an open working time of 30 minutes (far less on warm weather) which wouldn't be enough time to coat the surfaces and slot them into place. Instead use clear epoxy with a long working time (60+ minutes). It doesn't expand, is watertight, doesn't obscure the color if you accidentally get some on an outer surface, and is stronger than that the ceramic itself. Also, gorilla glue is a waste of money, even when used in its proper use-cases. Instead buy a tube of polyurethane construction adhesive (gold standard is Loctite PL 3X). You have to use it in a caulking gun, but the cost per ounce is less than 1/4 or what you pay for the ape brand.

You were lucky that the wooden beams didn’t catch fire. Some kid threw fireworks into a friends bin last year and it burned down their carport and caused significant smoke damage to the kitchen and living room. Insurance covered everything but they had to live elsewhere for 4 months and it’s only fully fixed now after almost a year.

Unfortunately, cats do like to do their business in other people's gardens and people can get very sick of it, I suspect it's that and not just the cats jumping up (though people can be odd). I'd not put these spikes up in a million years (I like cats) but I have had to pick up more than my share of cat poo considering I don't have a cat right now. I do have two dogs and you'd think that would be off-putting but apparently not! Brave or daft, our neighbourhood moggies! Have had a fair number of killed birds as well that I've had to clear up - I'd rather deal with cat poo.

This isn't necessarily a bad neighbour, accidents happen so unless there was some underlying issues between you it's unlikely to be due to some sort of malicious intent. Also I'm pretty sure you can still have your BBQ, Just clean up any debris to make the area as safe as possible and warn any visitors with young kids. (Some kids are a flight risk and don't understand dangers like busy roads)

My apartments swore that our townhouses weren't connected. But every time our AC or heat kicked on, all I would smell was cigarettes. My neighbor who smokes, I know he smokes because I have SEEN HIM SMOKE, lied to my face and my husband's face. I know it was him. But it was so strong my throat would burn. We bought our first house and moved at the beginning of the pandemic. My sanity could NOT LAST in that place anymore.

If the nanny is coming every day, why is she not parking in front of the employers house, or in their drive? Seems odd unless they have asked her not too. Plus I'm guessing the paper note came after the text message, since they didn't know it was the nanny before then and mentions them being her employers, so she was continuing to do it after they supposedly asked her to park in their driveway

Doesn't seem like an a*****e thing though. If people are allowed to put quirky gnomes and sculptures on their yard and paint their fences rainbow, how is this different? If the owner of the property had put this up here with "i did this to annoy my a*****e neighbor/hoa" with some funny story it would be getting upvotes. Yeah its weird, but not hurting anyone or even really disturbing people.

My Dad died when I was 10, my Mom was left to raise three daughters (10, 12, 14). My neighbor called the cops on us. LUCKILY my aunt lives behind me and that satisfied the cops to know if I needed help I could go there, but by 12 I was also fully self sufficient as far as taking care of myself. I would talk to the parent and ask, or let the kid know they can come to you if they need to - but, assuming and jumping to conclusions then calling the cops is wrong imo.

Just wow! Where do these people live?! The neighbor to the left of our house sometimes cuts our grass when he cuts his own. He also often shovels out our driveway in winter. When we lost power for two days after a bad storm, all my neighbors came together to share food and to help one another. Our other immediate neighbor is an elderly woman living alone. Everyone in the neighborhood looks out for her and takes turns helping to keep up her property. I just can't figure out how or why people act the way the folks in this article behave, it's just so insane.

Many of these posts involve mental illness, I suspect. I live in the US, and our neighborhood is very much like yours. Middle class, working class, and everyone helps each other and looks out for each other. These examples are NOT the norm.

Wow. Nobody mentioned snakes. We had a divorced lady next door who had a jr high kid she couldn't control. He had a live snake collection. She made him go live with his dad when she had enough. He turned the snakes loose in our neighborhood before he left. We were finding them everywhere . There was one I think was a Pecos rat snake that took up residence under their tool shed. It was longer than my 10 ft patio. She sold the house to a Muslim couple with small children. I went over and told them about the snake. Many more we would find around. All exotic to our area. One fell on me when I opened my garage door. Before he left I kept catching him running out of my side fence when I would come home. After he left we found a box of condoms and some soft toys and red bras over there. Gad.

This isn't as bad but: There's a German shepherd that lives on my street. Every time a person walks by, or even a car, she comes right up to her gate and barks as loudly as possible. She'll run back and forth and back and forth in her yard(I don't know the gender, i'd like to think she's a girl). Normally this would be a dog that just doesn't get out much. I'm not saying she's being abused, just not taken care of properly. She's super skinny and she's always outside. She always scares me when I walk my dog at night, she'll just pop up as loud as possible. If I stay long enough she'll start foaming at the mouth. I think people forget just how much work certain breeds are, and it pisses me off. German shepherds make AMAZING dogs-once trained. I've met the owner once. I was walking my dog when when he came out to water his flowers. That's the only time i've seen her stop running, but she was still barking. I said his dog is pretty and he smiled and said thank you, that was it.

I miss my neighbors where I used to live, all of them are still such great people. We used to get together for game nights, and dinners, BBQs and we'd help each other if it would snow, ya know, normal stuff, that a decent neighbor does for another.

Homeless in in America and I can attest that most Americans are just evil. However, like in most of the world there are a very small group of kind hearted American. Just good luck finding one. Most of these have been taken advantage of and joined the majority.

I am sorry you are homeless, and that most Americans you've encountered are evil. I am an American, and while I've met some shitty people, on the whole most are friendly and kind. I gave the last of my money to a homeless vet, he needed it more than me.(I'm currently unemployed.)

We just had new neighbors move in next to my parents house. Well, first the house was purchased right before Covid. The owner set it up for Airbnb. The neighbor on the other side turned the house in and so we have new renters. They have 3 or 4 dogs set up in outside kennels. They don't rinse out the kennels and they left the dogs out in over 100F heat. The dogs did have some kind of mister but I felt bad for the dogs. Just a week ago, the neighbors put some type of covering on the kennels weighed down with wood. It looks even more trashy. The stench when you walk up to my parents' front door is awful.

I would never recommend coming here to anyone from another country. After living on streets for a month and how I got there. How the government and people treat a human being. Why in the world would you come here. I am 52 years old and never in my lifetime seen anything good come from the people. Dog eats dog mentality rules most folks.
