Inclusion in the classroom, the numbers show that students with disabilities who spend the majority of their school day in a regular classroom has risen to stand at about 63 percent in the 2016-2017 school year – but what happens when they get there?
Allegra Willow posted a Tumblr thread on her page sharing various classroom horror stories from people with disabilities. From getting insulin pumps pulled out to being ignored during life-threating emergency health reactions, these tales of maltreatment will shock and appall you. At the end of the post, Willow included her own story but didn’t stop there. The 21-year-old informed any disabled readers of what is called the 504 plan. The plan is a legal protection program for United States students with disabilities or chronic illnesses in public schools. Some of the accommodations afforded with 504 can include verbal, visual and technological support along with excused absences or missed classwork. For Willow, it meant she as able to keep her medications on her person in the classroom in case of emergency.

Share on FacebookTeachers, including subs, should be informed about any special needs students before they even enter the classroom. They also need to be aware of this law and what it covers.
Parents and students do need to be aware of their rights. We were with my oldest son, who is autistic. You wouldn't believe what the schools tried to do. We fought for his rights.
Load More Replies...In all of the cases described, the teacher, sub or whatever should have been fired on the spot. It's worrying that someone has to point out that there's a special plan targetted at helping students with disabilities, but it's unbelievable that a student has to figure that out himself or herself. In my country most primary schools have an employee who takes care of these things: applying for subsidies, informing teachers about their students which need extra care and what to do in an emergency, keeping in contact with the parents to check if the child's needs are met and so on.
Totally agree, sacked immediately! Really baffling how these things happen. I dare guess this is in the US no European country I think would let this happen. Perhaps I'm wrong, but I doubt it's near as many.
Load More Replies...Teachers can truly traumatise very small children. A new or substitute teacher (dont recall) had a policy of not allowing a child to leave the room to go to the toilet during lessons as she thought it would teach us "control". She changed her policy the day 4 kids wet themselves in the same class and she had to clean them up, find clean pants and clean up the mess - we were 4 and 5.
4 and 5 yo not allowed to go to the toilet whenever they need???? Which planet was she from??

She was so verbally abusive it was traumatizing. I went into depression and quit eating. I lost so much weight and one day she walked over to me and pulled my shirt against me and commented on how much weight I was losing and that I looked so much better. Old b***h. I was also sick one day and she wouldn't let me call my mom. I had my head on my desk crying when low and behold my mother walks in. She had that mother intuition thing going on and just felt the need to see me. My mom grabbed me, marched up to the teacher and said "Don't you see that she's sick? Why didn't you call me?" I never loved my mom more. She ripped that teacher a new one!
In middle school, I literally peed my pants in class because a b***h a*s teacher wouldn't let me go to the bathroom. She then made fun of me in front of the whole class, and told everyone what I did, even though I tried playing it off like spilled soda on the floor. The next day, my mom pitched such a fit with the school, I was never told "no" when I asked to go to the bathroom.
i had a very similar experience as a 5 year old, some c**t of a teacher clearly had no idea of the needs of 5 year olds. i needed to go so bad i ended up peeing on the floor. i was teased relentlessly by other children and the school made me wear the spare clothes instead of letting me go home. my mum was livid and shouted at this freak. when a child that young has to go, they have to go, horrible thing to do to a kid

In 7th grade we went on a school tour across the country for about a week. I started feeling awful soon after we got there and was in such a daze that 8 years later I still can't remember much about the trip. On the night it was the worst my roommates called the supervising teachers in because I was literally alternating between blacking out and throwing up. I guess they weren't too happy that someone interrupted their drinking, as I got told "You're just overheating because of all these blankets." I was freezing. They left and my mom had to call a cousin who lived in the city to take me to the ER.
I think that people who want a teaching license have to meet certain requirements involving knowing what to do in certain medical emergencies to even be considered.

I asked the teacher after class whether I could move my seat because the scent was causing breathing problems, and the teacher lectured me for a solid five minutes on how I was being insensitive and not respecting her cultural right to wear perfume. (I'm sorry, what now??? I couldn't breathe!) Eventually I just switched with another kid and the teacher never noticed.
My nephew's professor read his disabilities accommodation list out loud to the class, and then made fun of the name of his disease. Can we say major HIPPA violation, anyone? I made sure he will never teach there again...
Its not as bad as these. But when I was younger I had quite a bad speech impediment. It took about seven years of speech therapy to clear it up. So naturally reading in front of the class was very embarrassing. Most teachers knew this and gave me a pass. Except one teacher who demanded I read all my anwsers to the class. I kept repeating "I don't know". He raised his voice and said "the answer on your sheet, what do you mean you dont know." I just kept repeating I dont know. It seemed like it went on forever. Until finally he realized and ended by saying "sorry I forgot you are the one who doesn't speak well."
He sounds like such a d*ck. I've had a similar situation like this, except instead of really having speech problems I'd have selective mutism (I've still got it now, in fact). For some reason my SPED teacher was the one who liked to call on me when my hand wasn't raised and would often yell at me when I froze up.
Load More Replies...Students can be intimidated by teachers, because they are grownups. They may be afraid to stand up for themselves.
I agree. When I was being abused by one of my teachers in 7th grade, I barely told anyone about it, mostly because I didn't think they'd believe me. When I finally did tell them, they said I was being unreasonable, lying, etc., and even laughing at me, but they wonder why I never talk to them about my issues.
Load More Replies...I don't know what's worse: the way these poor kids are treated, the carelessness of the teachers, or the principals/headmaster's failure to let new teachers know about particular students with special needs (or old teachers about new kids with disability issues).
Yeah. Communication between staff members is key. I know one teacher who called one of her students out for bad behaviour. Now in my country, if you act up, the normal way of addressing that is by asking how your Mother raised you. The student in question was an orphan...

should start with educating students on their rights so they can feel more comfortable bringing issues to light and getting it dealt with

Any subs we got were informed of this rule along with the others and told to keep an eye out for coloured socks. Now I only have one leg and the prosthetic one I had at the time was pink and blue. The sub we had went round checking everyone's socks as usual when he came to me and started going on about how I was being disrespectful by wearing 'odd socks'. I tried to explain but he said I was just making excuses. He ended up pulling my leg off and was so surprised he dropped it ant cracked the heel.
he should have had to replace your leg at his expense
Load More Replies...If I was another teacher/student/parent or doctor of these students I would have without hesitation or question pressed charges against these teachers for endangerment of a life and child abuse. This is to me a fireable offence.
from experience I know that teachers can get institutionalised and abuse their own power over children without realising they are bullying
and sometimes over petty things. like one time I had a teacher try to pressure me into going to this one camp I both didn't want to go on and couldn't go even if I wanted to. It got to a point where she basically involved all my friends into saying they would miss me (it was like a three-day trip so I don't know why) and tried to guilt trip me, I ended up leaving the room since it was after school and I needed to go home but basically bawled my eyes out after leaving and ended up walking past the guidance counsellor as I was and they asked me what was wrong, and being an aspie and being way too honest for my own good, told them what had happened. the next day that teacher yelled at me in front of the whole class calling me a lier. it ended up getting to the point where my mum had to write a letter to her telling her I was too sick to go anyways. and those three days in another class were actually really fun. never liked that teacher after that.

Were I the kid, I'd probably tried to rip off either their boobs or their junk and then ask them how it feels to have someone molest them
Load More Replies...In hindsight we used to get picked on for having anxiety/depression. 'Stop being so sensitive and do it'/'Man up' that kind of thing. 90's did suck for that.
I've had a SPED teacher who yelled at me for having anxiety once.. and you'd think teachers would understand that kind of thing.
Load More Replies...I had a teacher who thought I was just a bad student because I couldn't pay attention. Well a few years, a few tests and almost 5 therapists and I've been finally diagnosed. Turns out I need meds for school work. Another moment happened when I was labeled a slow reader because I couldn't read the board from the back of the class. My teacher was confused when my mom told her about how much I read. Guess who needed glasses?
We hear so much about how kids these days have lost their respect for authority and how teachers have no power anymore, (which is sometimes true) that we have become numb to the instances when teachers abuse their power over students. (which still happens.) People need to learn to stop leaning one way or the other due to politics and assess the current situation without preconceptions. Students have been bullied by teachers, and teachers have been bullied by students (and parents). It all happens, and it all exists. We should try to rely on generalizations less and actually think, that goes for both sides. I find the discussion often involves taking sides, team-teacher and team-student, when it should be about team-rights and team-human. At least that is my opinion. The way we are going about it is all wrong and causing trouble for everyone involved.
I have a 504 plan and holy s**t it helps. I have ADD and Anxiety, and my 504 Plan lets me get extra time on tests as well as lets me get out of class if I'm having an anxiety/panic attack. One thing that really sucks though is that (in my case at least) it's REALLY hard to keep it. Sometimes I'll have a good quarter where I don't need extra time and I don't have panic attacks in class, so then they think "Oh looks like her disorders just MAGICALLY disappeared" and they try to take it away. Of course then my parents storm in like the cavalry and suddenly the school becomes very concerned for my wellbeing and wouldn't DREAM of taking away my 504 Plan.
Oh and lets not forget that in sixth grade they "forgot" to tell all my teachers I had a 504 Plan. That was a fun year.
Load More Replies...I have a connective tissue disorder which didn't affect me much as a kid but as I got older things like pe got harder and there were some things I couldn't do but I would still try and I knew my limits, a lot of teachers just thought I was just lazy, probably didn't help that I had weird proportions and naturally large body parts in some areas and my weight continued to fluctuate as I grew up because that's a thing.
Students are taught early on to keep their hands to themselves. If the teachers/subs in question had done the same, a lot of these problems could have been avoided. Doesn't matter what they "think" is going on. They have no right to lay their hands on a student, period. As for making fun of kids, there's just no excuse.
My son was forced to go outside during recess. He has a severe bleeding disorder and was hit in the face with a ball. The resulting nosebleed left him in icu for 2 weeks with a breathing tube and unconscious. They didn't think he was going to pull through. The teacher thought he needed some exercise and had him walking around while others played.
I have Asperger's and my parents always told me how lucky I am to go to such a great school. I guess I never appreciated that until reading this article, Jesus Christ, how can people like this be allowed near children?
In big cities where teachers are paid c**p, the parents hate the schools, the kids are misguided and reflect the hate if the parents. The schools get desperate because they can't keep good teachers there.

Anyway, the nurse was taking a long time, so one student decided to just get the kid having an asthma attack to the nurse. What infuriates me is that the kid who took him to the nurse was suspended when he pretty much saved that kid's life.
When I was in yr 2 and yr 3 all my teachers used to tease me about how bad I am at maths. I always try but never remember anything. It was always so embarrassing and my teachers used to smirk at how slow I was. My grade we're all very very close and friendly so they all know how slow I was in maths. Every night I used to curl up in bed and cry because I felt useless. I didn't understand how I could be a straight A student but a D student in maths. It was truly heartbreaking. I was so glad at that time that my grade was in fact so close bc my older brother was always neglected and I was terrified. When I got to yr 6, my teacher was always so understanding and kind to me. She allowed me to be slow, as long as I got some of the work done, she was happy. I felt so much more cared for, and yes, my grade was still super close and friendly with each other. Also in yr 6, I was diagnosed with Dyscalculia which means that I cannot understand or remember my math lessons properly.

THEY SHOULD NEVER BE ALLOWED NEAR ANY CHILDREN EVER AGAIN! (but most of them are most likely tenured and CANNOT be fired! If this happens they just report to a room with ALL of the other AWFUL unfireable teachers and do nothing all day but STILL get paid!) Its true, look it up.
I was surprised by the number of political figures within the organization, claiming to help those with disabilities... in the end I think we were just there to make them look good.
Just like we need to invest more in police training, we need to invest more in teacher training
It's a lot better now, but it used to be extremely stressful going through security at an airport or se ure area or government building etc. with an insulin pump. Very hard to explain to people that yeah, it's attached, and yeah, I need it. In general though, you only have to deal with "Omg, is that a beeper? Ha ha!"
I WAS in the school the next morning. My son, who is autistic, was well known for having outbursts when people teased him or yelled at him. So one teacher gets pushed by him and she has him arrested..my son dragged off in cuffs. We found out from another teacher that shared an office with the "victim" that his teacher had flown off and started taunting and teasing my son when he refused to do his work..(His IEP clearly stated no teasing and asked teachers to call me and I would come to the school and deal with him.) I explained to his mental health therapist what happened and he demanded to be at the principal/parent/teacher conference. The teacher was demanding my son be expelled. His therapist had a copy of the IEP and started asking her questions. He said "You're a grown adult, he's still a child...and a learning disabled one at that. Why would you think that acting like you're 5 years old would end up being anything else but a disaster?" My son stayed, she resigned.
I have always had bad allergies growing up and one time in high school, it was especially bad that year so I stayed home for quite awhile. When I got back, my English teacher, pulled me out of class and told me "I don't know what's going on with you but I know it's not allergies. I know people who have bad allergies and their eyes are always swollen, they can't breathe, and they need serious medical help. You look nothing kike that. You can't lie to me. So, if you miss another class, I'll have to report you to the dean's office." It happened so long ago but I remembered everything she said because it was so bewildering. I also have a mild case of ADD. I had to take the SATs, which is a 3 hour test, my proctor decided that since she didn't want to be in a no a/c room when the sun eventually travels to our windows, she refused to give us our last two breaks. By hour 2, I was angsty, itcing my skin, shaking my leg, and broke my pencil in half. She yelled at me to stop cheating and made me finish the test before she allowed me to get up. By the time I was able to get up, I ran out into the hallways and screamed at the top of my lungs. A dean caught me and dragged me back to the room, asking the proctor what happened. She tried to make it seem like I was cheating. But then, the dean got upset when another student explained that I have ADD and the proctor forced us to not take our last two breaks.
My daughter requires assistance due to physical disabilities. In the 2nd grade (she is now 19), the PT and SP decided it would be a good idea to make a picture schedule for her restroom routine. This grand idea was done by the PT, SP and both their assistants...my daughter's regular aide said 'hey, does the mom know you are doing this cause it seems like something she might not agree to' and was kicked out of the room. The 4 adults (two with Master's Degrees) proceeded to take photos of my child in the various steps of using the toilet. They then printed them and hung them on the wall in the TEACHER'S bathroom as this was the only bathroom in the school with the grab bars and room for a wheelchair. I found out a few days later but thankfully the aide moved the photos to a drawer so photos of my child with no pants on were not on display to the entire staff. And I actually had to fight to get these people removed from my daughter's IEP team after this event. Like full Due Process. Crazy
It's so hard to believe that all this can happen in my country ! These "teachers" need to be fired...I know it's true...it happened to my grandson with his hidden disability... We ended up home schooling him ( it wasn't the best solution, but when you're a single parent with no one that will support you, it was the only solution ).
I homeschool both my kids because the schools of South West Houston, TX, USA, made my straight a student into a failure, and my very mentally disabled 13yr old son suasidal.
Load More Replies...My 12 yr old daughter entered 7th grade with a bivalved cast on her arm since she had broken the elbow falling off her bike. A bivalved cast is one that can be removed for bathing. Since I am an RN, the doc agreed to this when applying the cast. Then it's wrapped with an Ace bandage. When said daughter came home that day, she had the cast & Ace in hand, not on her arm. I asked why. Apparently the PE teacher thought she was faking because she had never seen a cast like that & made her remove it despite my daughter telling her that her elbow as broken in 2 places. Needless to say, I re-wrapped her arm and was at the Principal's office the next morning. He defended the teacher and said I should have sent a doctor's note with her to school. I then informed him that I was an RN and anything I had to say or write was a legal document in FL and he damn well better pay attention to it. I also informed him that the epiphyseal plates were involved in her fractures.
My blood is boiling... A teacher ripping an IV unit off someone? I'd be calling the police instantly after making sure they were medically OK and safe, as that is a serious assault on the person that just should never happen.
Do these teachers not know what Insulin pumps and wheel chairs are? I mean these people are supposed to be teaching our children, you'd think they'd be smart enough to know better...
I can only assume these kids go to really big schools where the teachers don't even know each other, never mind the students. I can't imagine these sorts of things happening in a New Zealand classroom. Any teacher, or substitute teacher, would be fully briefed on any special needs among their kids. I helped out on a few school trips, and we got printouts even saying who had any allergies to watch out for.
Hahaha I was bullied by a teacher in a NZ school. Believe me it happens.

I'd heard of students being mistreated, but I dismissed it, how often could that actually happen! ...It made me sad, to see that it happens a lot. At least from what I have seen. I tried very hard to withhold any judgement and not make assumptions, tried to understand things were open to interpretation, which of course they are. These were people who I thought promised me hope, that someone would maybe understand or give me a teensy bit more patience, and I'm sure there are some very good teachers out there. But I personally haven't run into one. What I saw shook my faith in others... I protected other students, even the ones I didn't like, because I felt something was wrong. People swatted me down- I went to my parents, who didn't believe me at first- and then they finally did, tried to protest, and got swatted down.
My brother didn't get his Asperger's diagnosis until high school. He was suspended from school for a year in 6th grade due to a misunderstanding instigated by the teacher and had to go to "alternative ed" with the kids who were suspended for majorly violent acts. My daughter got her diagnosis last year, half way thru 5th grade, thank goodness! I'm going for my Special Education degree to help students like these who fall between the cracks!

We had a couple of dissabilites in our class, and the school har actually lessons on how to help them if anything went wrong at the start of each semester. In the 90's, when they cut everything down and put the schools in the hand of each county, things like that came to an abrupt halt. Now, you have yourself to blame if you are sick, and are basically welcome to go to,.. well, somewhere dark and smelly...
I am a former Special Education teacher and for a time I subbed before taking my own classroom. I subbed in a middle school a lot and as a sub I was not allowed to let the kids leave to use the bathroom... even if I could visually see the bathroom from the room.. Why? because they had caught students having sex in the bathroom and the teachers were subs that had let them go. Was it the teacher's fault these kids had sex... nope but the school had to put out that rule... I felt awful denying bathroom to kids, the office got annoyed with me after awhile and allowed me to send kids to the bathroom because if I truly felt a student needed to go I would call the office for an escort. LOL Also for the record many states do not require substitute teachers to have any formal training before being put on the sub list so many sub have not been taught about these disabilities etc... Illinois actually requires subs to complete a certification course.
This is so true! I'm a sub working towards becoming a SPED teacher. :) I have not have any training from the school district. All my "training" has been personal experience with myself, my brother, and my daughter all being Autistic (Aspies), anything I've sought out myself, and what I've learned in my college classes.

If something was stressing me out, such as not wanting to hold hands, having a anxiety attack from noise levels, or even kids throwing my plushes around( they reduced the anxiety ) she would force me outside and practically yell at me and tell me I was being a issue or I needed to be like other kids. She would tell me I was over reacting and to immediately stop. She even took away the plushes when it was really bad saying they were weird and ruined the practices. It also make social interactions stressful and straining so I usually read.. I’m still avoiding her plays because I’m not sure I can handle that. It may not sound like much but if you have either of those disorders you may understand the little bits. Also, I am in the hyper sensitive categorie for autism ( for all my senses )so holding sweaty hands with kids yelling random noises is not the greatest.
A teacher at my college harrassed one of my friends who needs a wheelchair, he also has narcolepsy. The minute she saw him that semester she started going on about how she tought "disabled kids were taking away spaces from kids that *really deserve them", she said disabled people were "lazy and mediocre". Most of the classroom remained unfazed. Only a couple more students and I told her that she was being not only absolutely wrong but that she was been abusive and meanspirited. We filed a complaint to the College dean, since is the Literature College of a very large University. She also spilled a lot of noise claiming she was best friends with the general Dean and that he had given her the consesion to open a private College certified by the State University, but that she just didn't care about it, amongst a bunch of nonsensical pathetic and mediocre blabber. She wasn't fired nor admonished. Some of us quit that class and took another. I have been abused by teachers bcs I'm autistic.
Can't believe half the stuff I'm reading on this... are people stupid?
America, you are officially broken. In the UK, for a start no teacher would DARE put his or her hands on a student, so ripping off pumps would never happen unless the teacher was a lunatic (rare). Any disability or chronic illness is automatically covered by the Equality Act 2010, and protected by law. No school specific plans required. Kids with needs like these would be known to the faculty, and any substitutes would be made aware precisely because of the law. No school wants to be prosecuted because some sub wasn't briefed properly. Seriously, this is some f****d up s**t. I know the UK is a train wreck, but this is supposed to be the greatest nation on earth! 😭
We are also in the uk unfortunately we have experienced the worst of the education system. When my daughter was diagnosed type 1 the head would not allow her to have her meter or supplies so locked them in the office. Even if she had a hypo she had to walk to the office and then to the disabled toilet to test (the only place she was allowed to test). She would not listen to myself (the Sen governor and teacher)or the diabetes team about how many laws they were breaking. For six months she made our lives hell until I pulled my daughter out of the school. For that time we had to fight her refusing to let the staff be trained, refusing my daughter access to trips unless I had a day off work to go with her, not doing pe once in 6 months, sending her home if she was slightly out of range which in a newly diagnosed diabetic happens quite a lot. This was a small church school rated good by ofsted. Thankfully we found an incredible school who went above and beyond for her.

The children were hysterical are terrified, in the end my daughter was helped by someone to get to the office and call me. They denied the treatment even when the children had bruises. I called the police and the officer I spoke to was very understanding, but I was later told nothing would be done.
I have severe asthma, and in grade 9 PE, I told my teacher I was having an attack and needed to leave. She told me I was just fat and lazy and needed to sit on the bench until class was over. That is where my classmates found me 30 minutes later blue and barely breathing. After I got out of the hospital, that teacher got an earful from my mother AND my doctor, but wasn't even reprimanded at all for almost killing me.
If a teacher ever, and I mean EVER touched my child, never mind ripping out an insulin pump, I wouldn't even bother with a lawsuit. That teacher will not walk, talk or see out of their eyes for months after I was finished.
I had a friend named Griffin who had a mental issue that made him blurt out stuff randomly and he couldn't control it. Well, one day we have a substitute and she was really mean, and kept on yelling at us. So Griffin started just saying random words like "Bird" in the middle of a quiz, so she told him to be quiet. He kept on saying stuff, and she kept on getting angrier when she stood up and yelled at him to go to the Principal's office. All the kids in my class started saying how he was special needs and stuff, when she said, I kid you not "Special needs or not he needs to shut up". We all just sat there while she took him to the Principal's office.
sounds like Tourrette's some people with tourrette's actually randomly say cuss words even if they wouldn't normally.

I have porphyria and am allergic to the sun if exposed to long I have seizures and can go into heart failure, needless to say, I was in my mandatory PE class, and the teacher made me go outside on a particularly sunny day. I made it back to school but felt sick. I told my mother when I got home, who the next day tore a strip off the principal and teacher because my mother ensured the school was well aware of my medical condition. I never participated in any PE activity again, and if I so much as looked too pale, I would be told I wasn't allowed to participate. So yeah depends who has your back, my mom is scary when she's angry.
yes, all of these stories are very upsetting, and it's good to be aware that stuff like this is happening, but please don't overlook the last part of the article! 504 plans are so helpful for those with any sort of disability - mental or physical. Anything from mild hearing loss, to anxiety or ADD, to diabetes, to physical handicaps, and everywhere in between! Even if you don't go to a public school, most private schools have an equivalent, or will work with a neighboring public school to get you the help you need! And there's also a similar plan for college students - just stop by the disability center at the college for information (every college has a disability center, it's required by law) Also - teachers and school staff should keep an eye out for students who may qualify for a 504 plan, but have not been officially diagnosed. Many parents may not notice that their child needs help academically, be in denial about a disability, or not be aware of the help they qualify for
A 504 is useless if ignored. One teacher told us she had higher standards than that 504. We eventually had to withdraw our sons from school. They didn't stand a chance.

(Private catholic school) being that i have an invisible illness that disrupts my chances of even getting out of bed sometimes, i had many absences. I had not been diagnosed until i was 16 years old and in junior year. I had doctors write letters stating that this is the reason why i am excused from lateness and absence and leaving early sometimes. I gave it to the nurse and stated these are the reasons why i have so many absences and i need to make sure that you know so that i can be excused. A few weeks later my dean pulled me aside asking why i have been absent and after i explained my illness she asked why i havent brought doctors notes and asked for my parents to meet with her because i could get expelled. Had comunication between the nurse and the dean occured i would not have been in the predicament. Being that it was a private school i could not talk back. But my parents def gave an e
I wasn't lucky at all with school, in middle school I was bullied by most of my classmates (just because I was smart, kind and fair) and I got depressed, nor my parents or any teachers tried to do something about it (and I was yelling in front of them what I was feeling like and passing through). Without any friends to talk to or any moral support at all (I got my first friend ever at 15) I started to try taking my own life. Fortunately, all the 3 times I've tried have failed. In the 5 years of superioro school a classmate of mine was a huge piece of s**t, and I don't know why, she succeded to make friends with 10 teachers of 13 and (licking theyr butt, feet and I don't know what else) she manage to do whatever she wants and to convince them to hate me and my 3 friends. Teachers were lowering our grades on purpose and rising hers instead, even if she haven't studied at all. We also had a deaf guy in my class and 5 more students with autism, they where bullyed and mistreated by her.
Our teachers and the 3 support teachers too. Our principal called us liars and no f*****g one was giving a s**t about those guys and us, nor the other theacher or our parents. I've checked, we could have called the police and denounce all of them. It may seems too exaggerated, but it's true. In the final exam all my class was mistreated more than ever, every day they asked random questions on the school program, at least 3 different subjects a day.

In my experience schools go through the process of creating a 504 plan and then ignore them all year.
As a kid y tongue was attached to back of my lower teeth and I had a serious problem articulating some sounds. I basically hardy spoke then. My first year teacher didn't believe that I can't and made me stand in front of the class everyday as a punishment and verbally abused me for weeks until my mom found out and convince them. Even after that she refused to have me in her class and said I should go to "especial class" . I was so traumatized for years because of her attitude and had speaking problems, even know still have some at 41.
When I was in third grade I was slow because or neurological confusion : I was born left-handed, but in those days that wasn't tolerated, and my mom who wanted me to go to university when I grew up taught me to hold my spoon in my right hand when I started to feed myself, but allowed me to use my left hand to play. Also, I developed schizophrenia in adulthood, but nobody knew that then. So the b***h of a teacher would regularly humiliate me in front of the whole class. Teachers can be real a******s.
If/when that happens, it should be treated as unconditional assault, possibly GBH, taking someones medical tools and medications off them and they have been informed what they are for. Other people have NO rights, regardless of reason, unless they are certified medics, to take someone else's belongings, putting them at risk. There is no excuse for this kind of behaviour, and especially not by people who should know better, dealing with minors who are in a dependent situation.
Is this just in America? This is insane! The one about a Sub laughing at a student who can't stand up, that can't have happened recently!?!
Oh, it can. Since Trump came on the scene laughing at the disabled reporter, that only enabled many others to do the same.

I was very slow on learning and my choosing for a language to speak was impossible. The teacher that i had before Ms Miller (second time year of kindergarten) would mutter loud enough for me to hear, call me stupid. Wondering why I couldn't decide on talking, while I was trying to do my best. Aspergers ruined my life as kid, still is. I barely understand myself when I talk to people. That teacher even told my mother that I was swearing in class. First of all, I couldn't say anything at all when I was around 5 years old. I started to speak up when I was 9, four longest years I was considered dumb and mute. I hated it. I repeated kindergarten, nearly failed behind 1st and second grade. I was miserable
I'm in Australia and have had one teacher in primary school say I was faking a low BGL. In the end I just up and walked out and to the school nurse. I've also had a moment when my BGL was low and I had to go to the school nurse. She didn't have anything on hand, ran to the school canteen/cafateria and back with a can of coke. the coke went everywhere coz it got shaken up. There was enough left in the can to fix my low tho. Most of my teachers have been understanding tho. the other students on the other hand. "oooh...lollies to eats" (hey thats my hypo food)
I may not have a condition like diabetes, not being able to walk, etc. but I have a few emotional disorders that occasionally give me trouble with socializing. Usually I do just fine, but often I can spiral into a nervous breakdown very quickly when I'm forced into doing it and yet my special education teacher didn't understand that for some reason (my other teachers did, though).
My cousin uses an insulin pump and 99% of people know what it is. Little kids think it's a video game so she explains what it is as she believes it's a teaching moment. Every once in a while there's a Karen who thinks she's a drug addict
There was a low-functional autistic kid in my class in third grade. We had a sub one day and the kid got kinda worked up and started crying, "I WANT Ms. *name* TO BE HERE!" and all that. The sub just goes WELL SHE'S NOT HERE SO YOU HAVE TO SHUT UP AND LISTEN TO ME. She proceeded to play the "Hokey Pokey" (we're in THIRD GRADE) and teach us stupid lessons, all while this kid is freaking out. I felt so bad. :(
I didn't have to deal with this in school but in extracurricular activities. I have asthma and still participated in sports like basketball. I was one of the tallest players on my team usually and sometimes would have to sit out because I couldn't breathe. Some parents said that I was faking my asthma and that there was nothing wrong with me. When I was in high school, I was on the dance team and every year in the fall I would get a chest infection. It usually wasn't very serious and I would usually be ready by the dance day. My coach would let me participate by just standing in the spots I would be in for the dance. Some of the other girls got mad that I was allowed to just stand. They didn't realize that I was practicing with them I was just not wearing myself out.

I need closure on these stories. What happened to the teachers, if anything?
more often than not not a f*****g thing happens to them because like the police and most big companies they are allowed to do an internal investigation first and more often than not no investigation is ever done period

I was bullied by two of my teachers both in middle school but differents grades. I don't even relise that i've been bullied, because i am a children . I am Indonesian, and i am a Protestant. And i was bullied because I am not a muslim. It is not my fault that this school is not ready to educate a non muslim student (it was a state school ) we're not been able to follow few classes like praying and reading qur'an so we have to go to sunday school to take an exam to make up classes that we can't take. So this one teacher say how easy it was for us who are not a muslim not like our other classmates who need to go through all the lessons and exams a whole semester while us in church singing and praying and still get the same scores, even higher than my other friends. The second teacher scolded me for chatting with my deskmate (which im not) while she talks about religion, she said JUST BECAUSE YOU'RE NOT MUSLIM DON'T THINK WHAT YOU DID THIS WHOLE TIME IS THE RIGHT ONE.
I think it is inaccurate and actually downplays the situation when it is called "bullying". Nothing an adult does to a child could properly be called bullying. Use more apt and descriptive phrases when it comes to something this important, please.
i agree any adult that emotionally or physically harms a kid under the age of 18 should be held accountable period sadly that is not the case most of the time

The student in question was an orphan...

from experience I know that teachers can get institutionalised and abuse their own power over children without realising they are bullying
and sometimes over petty things. like one time I had a teacher try to pressure me into going to this one camp I both didn't want to go on and couldn't go even if I wanted to.

When said daughter came home that day, she had the cast & Ace in hand, not on her arm. I asked why. Apparently the PE teacher thought she was faking because she had never seen a cast like that & made her remove it despite my daughter telling her that her elbow as broken in 2 places. I can only assume these kids go to really big schools where the teachers don't even know each other, never mind the students. I can't imagine these sorts of things happening in a New Zealand classroom. Any teacher, or substitute teacher, would be fully briefed on any special needs among their kids.

Load More Replies...I have autism and ocd, a play director didn’t get it or didn’t believe me. She would push me over and over again and was just...
Thankfully we found an incredible school who went above and beyond for her.

even if theyre not taught about it, which they should be, surely they would have been experienced and intelligent enough to realise its a medical device. how f*****g ignorant and myopic does someone have to be to completely oblivious to disabilities especially something as common as that

Did any of this fool lose their job over the stupidness, some could of went to jail for assault and attempted murder,
Please tell me some of these "teachers" were fired! And the two that ripped the pump out of the students should have been charged with assault. These kind of people DO NOT belong in a classroom.
Assault, my Aunt F***y's rear end!!! They should be charged with Practicing Medicine without a License, Child Endangerment, Child Abuse and Attempted Murder!!!
Load More Replies...You would think it would be standard practise for any teacher to itemise every child with a disability in their class and have the special needs listed so every sub would know before going into the class.
My cousin had to go to the bathroom and the teacher refused. He ended up peeing his pants and she got fired.

Apalling so many teachers lack empathy and common decency towards their students.
if i go back to college and one of these professors think they are going to treat me like a b***h ima rip his lung pump out his side and cheat his life
In my experience schools go through the process of creating a 504 plan and then ignore them all year.

They didn't realize that I was practicing with them I was just not wearing myself out.
on-going flame, high blood sugar wont kill you immediately. low blood sugars are the acute emergency. high blood sugars that are not brought down will cause dka and are not immediately dangerous. what people will do for attention...
