But devouring the food you love may be a dangerous endeavor for some hungry animals. You see, when your eyes are bigger than your belly and your belly is bigger than your bowl, it may lead to a trapping incident.

When it comes to feeding your pet, we all want what’s best for our animals, from tasty foods to safe and useful pet feeders. However, recently, new buzz around automatic pet feeders has emerged.
Many owners see them as an alternative to feeding your furry companion while being away, or simply making sure you never forget to put some snacks out when you’re out of time.
But experts warn that automatic food dispensers are in no way an alternative to human interaction. In fact, Russell Hartstein, a certified pet behaviorist and the founder of Fun Paw Care in Los Angeles, told NY Times that “A feeder should never be used as a way to not hire a pet sitter, walker, or boarding facility.”

Even though automatic pet feeders are meant to dispense a specific amount of food at a programmed time, they cannot give the full care and attention your pet needs. Plus, they are not always reliable, and when there’s technology, bugs do happen.
Moreover, an automatic pet feeder is likely to overfeed your pet even if you've programmed it not to. It can be anywhere from a teaspoon to a nibble, but if your pet is on a restricted diet, that little bit can be enough to pile on weight.

Poor bunny, but he/she is only supposed to get 1/4 cups of pellet a day for a full grown bunny and babies should get even less. I hope after this he gets plenty of yummy hay to munch on!

Lol, I bet he had the same mindset as one of our cats did! One night, middle of winter, room was freezing cold, our eldest cat slinked into the spare bedroom when my partner had went in for something. Cats aren't allowed in there so they ALWAYS try to sneak in! Anyway, 2hrs later my man's thinking "where the hell is the cat" and, yep, sure enough - he was in the back room! He was freezing! And we just knew, when he slinked in there and realised it was undetected, that he'd have been like "YES! They don't know I'm in here" thinking it was great! Fast-forward 2hrs and I'm pretty sure he was regretting it lol! Best of it is - he's a totally silent cat! Very, very rarely meows at us, he makes that wee trilling noise most of the time so it's not as if he could have gotten our attention to let us know he was in there lol! He has learnt his lesson now with the spare room lol

Kittens should free feed. Just leave them a full bowl and let them eat whatever they want. When they're young, they need seemingly massive amounts of calories to grow, but they have tiny little stomachs, so if it looks like they're eating all the time...they are.

Probably not - it looks caught past her teeth. Some dogs aren't that willing to let you do things around their mouths. One of my dogs would be fine but another one would not - he was rescued at the age of five and came with a lot of problems so gets distressed easily. Dogs rescued as adults can be a LOT less trusting and they've only had this poor girl a couple of days.

On the contrary everyone was trying to help but It was a stray which no one could get close to, they couldn't lure it into a trap with food because of jar. The whole town kept reporting sightings throughout the town so that animal control could corner and catch it and help it. Happened in a wee town in New Zealand quite recently

We don't know the situation. Cans might be in a recycling bin that the cat can reach, cat may have come home like this, cat may have jumped up to the counter while owner wasn't looking. Just sayin', we don't know

Most of these sad pictures are the fault of the owner's. Not funny. Please get rid of self feeders. Make sure you dispose of feed bags and empty cans in a secure place.

ALWAYS flatten empty cans before throwing them out! And close empty jars or put them somewhere your pet can’t get stuck... As for the cat owner with the empty jerky bag where the cat got stuck 4 times... just get up and toss it instead... The animals are not at fault, the owners are!!

I have no experience with these automated feeders but it I see the funny incidents here I cannot help but imagine there also must be unfunny ones...

Many of these are dangerous and not funny at all. This is how you find suffocated pets at home if you are not careful. I really don’t get time-feeders anyway. If you have an animal, take good care of it or don’t get animals because humans are to blame for all of these incidents.

I don't like these. It's so dangerous. All of these animals could've been so easily hurt in these situations. As well as that, these animals have a right to dignity of life and photographing and laughing when they're in a moment of distress just doesn't seem right to me...

i had a doberman, helga, that was rescued as a pup from a puppy mill. because of her experiences she was an opportunistic eater. she even learned to pop the top off tupperware from fridge w/o tearing it up. i walked in finding her head stuck in boxes several times. most scare was when i put a box of groceries down & then got the call to pick up my son. came back to see groceries & broken glass everywhere w/blood in her mouth. took her to ER; glass can't be see on xrays. given a box of gloves w/instructions to check her butt & poop for blood/glass. just think of the look a dog gives you when you are feeling up their poop. and that was just one of the adventures w/my problem child. loved her all of her 13 yrs.

Peoples are thinking most of the photos are funny. But plastic bags, take away boxes and tin cans are the most dangerous or deadly trap for wildlife! LET'S STOP IT!
