This Stray Cat Snuck Into A Nursing Home, And Got A Job

Meet Oreo, the cat who somehow found her way into a nursing home – and decided to work there. “She’s like the family here. She helps the residents, she helps the employees, and we just love her,” said Carmen Delgado, receptionist of St. Augustine Health Ministries in Cleveland, Ohio.

Everyone appreciates the kitty’s presence. “Most of the people we serve here had pets… so to have Oreo here, for them to be able to come out and pet the cat and see how the cat is doing… it brings… those feelings of home,” Dana Carns, director of advancement, said.

“I’m always getting pictures, even on the weekends or at night that the staff are taking. ‘Oh look, Oreo is at the reception desk, answering the phone, because it’s after hours’, or ‘she’s sitting on a bench with a resident who’s waiting for her ride.'”

“The residents were so excited to have Oreo around. They all love her and seek her out for a snuggle,” Carns told Bored Panda.

One thing about cats. They know how to just walk in and take charge. No need asking permission. Just do it.

All residences for seniors should have resident pets as well as visiting service pets. They are a source of happiness for the residents and a constant reminder for them of the need to keep active and mentally active.

Bawahahahahaha no one would dare question the authority of a cat... after all they used to treated like royalty and they have never forgotten that.

This is quite beautiful. Boredom and lonliness are two realities in nursing homes. Animals have a very positive affect.

Since it's working so well, they should consider taking more pets in... maybe rescues ? :)

Nursing homes are allowing many more animals to visit residents, too. Here, we see a lot of dogs that bring joy to so many lonely people.

I think this is wonderful. Cats and dogs in care homes are an excellent idea. They mean home to residents. They take the idea of 'hospital' nursing home etc away. They love unconditionally and seem to know when someone really needs them. I think the laws should be changed that people especially singles and seniors should be allowed to have small dogs or cats or birds in their apts etc. It means a lot to a senior to have a little dog to walk. They get out more, they meet and interact with people. They have a reason to get up in the mornings and it helps them deal with loneliness. They are little furry angels.

My father-in-law worked at an assisted living center that had a cat. She was so special and brought joy to all. Shouldn't we all seek to live in the same way?
