It all started with a random picture in a random place that I can barely remember. Trying to pull myself together, I went places but the memories seemed to haunt me. I was feeling angry, frustrated, deceived, betrayed and manipulated.

I wonder if you can relate?

Well, probably it is too early for me to ask this question since you are here to look at my artwork. But let's get to know each other a little bit more before I show everything that you are about to see. I promise you that you won't see anything scary or blood-related. I'm over that.

Lately, I was reading a book written by Susan Sontag called 'On Photography'. She wrote that photography is a tool to promote your nostalgia.

"Photography is an electic art, a twilight art. Most subjects photographed are, just by virtue being photographed, touched with pathos. An ugly or grotesque subject may be moving because it has been dignified by the attention of the photographer. A beautiful subject can be the object of rueful feelings, because it has aged or decayed or no longer exists. All photographs are 'memento mori'. To take a photograph is to participate in another person's (or thing's) mortality, vulnerability, mutability. Precisely by slicing out this moment and freezing it, all photographs testify to time's relentless melt."

I love to record people's emotions. Just like Susan wrote, slice out the moment and freeze it. Hence, I froze the moment of what I thought was the happiest period in my life. Old photos bring back a time, a place, and a life that are long gone. They remind you the people that are long gone. Unfortunately, I spent five or six years trying to heal myself from depression. I did not know how to make it back then. I disconnected from almost everything.

In the process of self-healing,  photography and getting closer to nature helped me a lot. Now I see everything from a different, colorful perspective. I love things in colors and I'm grateful for everything.

I am a fine art photographer from Malaysia. In this series, I combined some of my favorite photos from "Queit" and "Happiness is Simple" into one complication.

I hope you enjoy it and thank you very much for reading!

Your new years resolutions is to walk on water like Jesus? That's setting the bar pretty high. Seems like you made it though!

I am very happy u had the luxury time and money to escape and heal ur depression hope u r better. However most of us cannot run we have to face the real world and man up. No illustrative photography here just manning up to life. Honning the coping skills with precision.

Your answer shows you never had a real depression. Many people say they are depressed when they only have a bad day, or a bad week, or when they are sad for whatever reason. However, depression is a terrible illness that makes people suffer so much they might think of killing themselves. It's just ignorant or insensitive to tell a person with depression "to face the real world and man up". I bet you anything you wouldn't say the same thing to a person with cancer. Depression can be just as deadly, and the fact that's invisible doesn't make it less real.

Fishing The Sunset

Fishing The Sunset

It reminds me of my Dad. I wish he could spend the rest of his life doing what he loves to do. I would still feel sorry for the fishes he caught, though.

I agree. Haha, my first thought was "great photo" and my second was "I wish it didn't involve using a metal hook to drag a fish out to be killed".
