Grandpa Calls Up His Granddaughter In Tears, Asks Her If She’d Like To Have A Sleepover
Hello, party Pandas! Hope you’re all doing well since the last time we’ve seen each other. But let me ask you this – when’s the last time you had a sleepover at your grandparents’?
Most of us associate the term ‘sleepover’ with a raging party at a friend’s house, pillows and feathers flying everywhere, a mediocre film on in the background, whilst we stuff our faces full of marshmallows and pizza or marshmallow pizza. Hey, I don’t judge! But sleepovers don’t have to be a thing of the past, especially when we consider the story that I’m bringing to y’all today.
A grandpa invited his granddaughter to a sleepover as he’d been feeling lonely and, of course, she obliged! As per usual, grab the tissues. I tend to consider myself a hard shell to crack, but oh boy… I’d be lying if I said this didn’t tickle the emotional bone in my body.
Make sure to leave your thoughts below, upvote the story so that I can continue bringing happy things to you, and maybe give me a follow. Doesn’t cost a thing to make a random person on the internets happy! Enough rambling, let’s dive into the story!

Not many grandparents ask their grandkids to come for a sleepover on any given day, but when they do…

Megan Elizabeth has had a fantastic relationship with her grandparents ever since she was a child. Countless days in their loving company, many great memories made. Sadly, things aren’t always fantastic, as after the loss of his wife a few years ago, the 92-year-old grandpa had been feeling rather lonely.
His granddaughter shared a chat they had via text on her TikTok and Instagram accounts. Apparently, he’d been feeling under the weather, crying on the phone during one of their calls. Then one night he texted to ask if she’d like to come over for a sleepover at his house, saying “I haven’t been feeling well and miss you. We can order food and watch a mystery show. Love, grandpa.”
Megan shared the texts between her and her grandpa, explaining that he’d been feeling lonely and crying over the phone

She said in the caption that his health has been declining, so she takes any and all opportunities to see him. Thus, without further ado, she jumped in her car and drove to KFC as well as a grocery store to pick up some snacks.
Her grandpa had some requests: “Could you pick up applesauce? The cinnamon kind. And if you go somewhere with mash potatoes, I would like that because I have no teeth and can only eat soft things. Ha!”
He later added strawberry ice cream to the little list and, honestly, can’t blame him! Strawberry ice cream is pretty darn amazing! Especially shared with someone you love, but I digress.
He asked her if she’d like to come over for a sleepover and she excitedly agreed, offering to bring snacks and treats, to which he happily obliged

He finished the chat, saying “thank you. You are my favorite granddaughter”, adding in a little request for ice cream as well

Grandpa ended the messages saying, “thank you. You are my favorite granddaughter.” Megan laughed that she’s his only granddaughter but, regardless of that little fact, it’s still very sweet.
She arrived bearing gifts of everything he’d asked for and they spent the evening enjoying the ice cream, and even more so, each other’s company. They watched her grandpa’s favorite black and white mystery show before heading off to bed.
Shortly after, Megan brought KFC, applesauce and ice cream for them to enjoy whilst they watched a murder mystery show

After the show finished, grandpa led her to the bedroom, which he made up in the same way as he used to when she was little

If you thought everything beforehand was sweet, then wait till you read this, my Pandas. Grandpa made sure Megan had a glass of water by her bed just in case she got thirsty. She noticed that “he made my bed how he used to make it, when I was little with my favorite doll of my grandma’s (rest in peace). And gave me a flashlight ‘in case I got scared’.”
The video finished with her laying in bed, getting emotional, the captions saying: “Staying here brings back so many good memories from my childhood. I love my grandpa so much!”
He also gave her a flashlight, just in case she got scared; the video finishing with Megan saying “I love my grandpa so much”

She had to leave early in the morning to go to work, yet he could not let her go without waving goodbye
A follow-up video came soon after, with her in the car, the caption stating: “I had to work at 5:30AM and he got up to wave goodbye to me and wish me a good day.” If that’s not pure love, I don’t know what is.
Megan shared some of her family’s backstory on her Instagram, saying she’s very lucky to have grown up with her grandparents
Megan gave us a little bit of backstory in her Instagram post. She grew up very close to her grandparents, having lived with them for a little while as her family couldn’t immediately afford a place on their own. Once they did, they moved across the street from her grandparents. She said, “I am so lucky to have grown up with my grandpa and my grandma (rest in peace).”
What makes Megan happy is the fact that very little has changed since she was little. She stayed in the same room she grew up in with her 2 brothers. The grandparents would always offer them ice cream, just as the pair had that night. Her grandpa made the bed in the same way he always did.
She was always jealous of that doll growing up, but now it’s become a symbol of her relationship with her grandparents. Megan said: “I feel so happy. I am thankful for my grandpa and he will never understand how much love he truly has shown me. And more importantly, the love he showed my grandma while she was alive. I believe in love and loyalty because of this man. He is my hero.”
Sadly, her grandmother passed away a few years ago from Alzheimer’s, but the love and devotion she saw shared between the grandparents is one to remember and cherish
Her grandma passed away a few years ago from Alzheimer’s. The pair met in an unlikely twist of circumstance as her grandma’s friend was too scared to go on a date alone, thus she invited grandma, and her date invited Megan’s grandpa.
Neither of them wanted to go, but they did so in annoyance. Thankfully, it turned out to be one of the best decisions they’d ever made. They clicked, communicated via letters and once grandpa returned from the Air Force, they got married and had 2 children and 3 grandchildren.
Her grandma loved Christmas, so they decided to plant a little pine tree in her honor. Megan got a tattoo of one, her grandpa drawing a star on it each festive season
As grandma’s Alzheimer’s worsened and she forgot a lot of things, there was one thing that remained constant – her love for Christmas. Therefore, in her honor, they planted a beautiful pine tree, which they decorate every year. In one TikTok, Megan wrote a little letter for her grandma and left an ornament on the tree for her to find and enjoy in her own time.
The love this family shares with each other is truly palpable. Megan’s 254.8k followers have felt it too and have been enjoying her interactions and close relationship with her grandpa.
The videos shared on her TikTok and Instagram pages inspire us all to look to the people in our lives and give them the time and love they deserve

Even if you’ve not been close to your grandparents or have not been able to know them, there are ways to make a difference in someone’s life
I wrote a story recently, very similar to this, as an elderly man had succumbed to loneliness and existential thoughts until he was asked by a neighbor to babysit his 3 pets. Their unconditional love had sparked a new lease on life into the man, encouraging him to adopt 2 dogs of his own. You can read more about it here, but it once again drives home the fact that company and a feeling of purpose are so important in one’s life.
I don’t know about you, but there’s something incredibly heartbreaking to see/hear your grandparents crying or in distress. If one visit, phone call, hug or chat can prevent it, then I don’t know what we’re waiting for.
For those who’ve never known their grandparents or haven’t had good relationships with them, it may feel like a missed opportunity, but, even if it’s not the same, you can volunteer at an elderly people’s home and it often happens that they start treating you as family.
Not only will you be providing them with companionship, it may also help bridge a generational gap. Here are some tips to get started! And for those of us who’ve lost our grandparents, we can recollect on the good times with them, holding their memory fondly in our hearts.
We wish all the best for Megan and her grandpa, hoping for many more sunny days ahead and lots more sleepovers!

It is a privilege of sorts to live to an old age and even more so when you have people that care deeply for you. We never know when it’s going to be our time to leave, so to say, and to be able to share each day and moment with someone that brings us joy, cherishing it like it’s your last, is something that we take for granted a lot of times. Whether we’re young or old, let’s spread some joy to one another, some care, some attention.
We wish Megan and her grandpa a lot more sunny days and many sleepovers together. If you need any murder mystery documentary recommendations, let me know!
You can watch the full video of their sleepover here

Thank you for the sweet comment! Made my day better ❤️
Load More Replies...I was having a terrible day, but this made it infinitely better. I love seeing people who still want to spend time with their grandparents. I lost my last one at 16, so I beg you, don't take the time you have with your loved ones for granted.
Very well said, lazy panda ❤️ Sorry for your loss, but I'm glad this little story could make your day better!
Load More Replies...This is why, when our time comes, I want to go before my husband because my heart would break every day afterwards if he went before me..I'd miss him so much.
I'm sure he'd miss you just as much. I hope y'all have long fulfilling lives together ❤
Load More Replies...This made me miss my Papa. I used to climb up in his bed with a bunch of snacks and we'd watch westerns together! He'd eat those gross orange marshmallowy peanut shaped candy and we'd watch John Wayne. Adults used to tell me it was weird for a teenage girl to hang out in her grandfather's bedroom. They can suck it. Every Sunday we'd make breakfast together for everyone and every minute is ingrained in my memories. When he passed I refused to go back to the hospital to watch him go. We'd already talked. But after the funeral I stole a peek in his wallet. I found pictures of me and a 4 leaf clover I'd given him when I was 6 and a silver guardian angel coin that matched the one he'd given me. I took it, the clover and the pics. I slipped in some pics of my cousins instead. Never told anyone. I had a pretty miserable life but he was a safe place for me. I bought all those movies and I eat those nasty rubber peanut candies while I watch them. And I stole one of his shirts. No clue why.
When grandpa (sadly) passes away, she should get a red star added to the tree to honor him...it will be a sweet memorial for both grandparents in one tattoo. So sweet. I wish I treated my grandma better than I did before she passed away. It's my biggest regret. She would call and I would be a "busy teenager" and wouldn't have time for her. I didn't think what a treasure she was and that I would soon lose her. I love seeing stories like this with sweet grandparents
I'm not crying, you're crying. God bless you, Megan, for your tender care of your grandpa. Old people are precious!
All my grandparents are now gone. I wish I could have one last sleepover with them.
I'm with you Kimberley. This made me miss my grandparents terribly.
Load More Replies...My moms parents live with us. They live in the basement and me, my parents and my brother live upstairs. My other brother also lives downstairs. So I see my grandparents every day. My dads mom I see every couple months cause she lives an hour away. And my dads dad is an abusive jerk so nobody talks to him. Not his grandkids or his own kids. We all ignore him.
We film everything. Today film the people you love. I began filming my grandmas for a couple of years before they passed. I asked them questions, or when their minds float somewhere else, I began to film. My most treasured are their accounts of WW2 as young women and most of their stories didn't discuss anything bad, just how they survived and kept spirits up. A lot of our personal family histories are passed down orally, and it becomes more difficult when the teller is no longer there. Film. These phones suck enough time out of our lives, might as well put them to good use.
I am in tears as I am remembering the weeks in the summer I spent at my grandparent's house having so much fun with my granddad. I miss him so much. Thank you for bringing back those memories. 💙
The glass of water was sweet, but the flashlight got me in the feels. Such a beautiful thing to love and honor an elder in their twilight years. Bless him for asking. I hope this story empowers other elders to ask for the things they need and inspires others to answer that call whenever, wherever, however. We owe them that, and so much more. Thank you OP for bringing this to light. 😉
I still have all my grandparents but I lost 3 of my great grandparents in the space of a year and a half. I wish I could have spent more time with them. On my biggest regrets, and something that pains me to this day, is that the last time we went to meet my Great Grandfather at the nursing home my mom said something about giving him a hug and I didn't do it because I was in the "no touching" faze. I'll always regret that until I meet him in Heaven to make up for that.
I would be calling in a couple of hours late for work to enjoy breakfast with grandpa.
Not just for if you're scared of the dark, but in case you want to read your comic books under the covers.....
Load More Replies...This is adorable. I never met one of my grandparents since he died before I was born. I did however know 3 of my grandparents. My grandparents died when I was 13, 21, and 23.
My grandparents moved next door for the last 10 years of their life in a mother-in-law apt. I was so thankful that they were so close. We were lucky that our state had some great programs for seniors. One lady came and cleaned twice a week. She would bring her kids and my Grandfather looked forward to it. Also, the Senior Center had a bus that bring them to the center for a $2 lunch and different programs. He passed away 1yr and 1 week after my grandmother. He had been planning another trip to see my cousins but his heart gave out. I miss them every day.
I grew up across the street from my Maternal Grandparents. It's a very unique situation. I don't know how it goes for everyone, but I had 2 houses that were always welcoming, where I could enter without knocking or raid the fridge. Of course, it went back the other way as well. Chores to do, helping out at their dinner parties, helping in my Grandpa's garden. But I knew there were 4 people in the world that I could always depend on and would be there for me (my paternal grandparents were out of the picture). I miss all of them dearly.
the only grandparent i ever really knew was my maternal grandmother, and she was never much of a grandmother to me. we got along quite well, with much less strife than she and my mom had, but the best example of our relationship is a photo of me as a baby, perched on the very edge of her knee with her hands barely on me and her gaze elsewhere.
This is so sweet! It always breaks my heart knowing there are so many lonely people who don't have the courage to ask for company.
I just love this story. It's filled with love, respect and feelings for one another.😊❤
I was so lucky to have my great grandparents in my life. Jaybird (great grandfather) passed when I was 12. Grandma May when I was 18. Daddy Bill (grandfather) passed when I was 5, but Mammay was here to meet my 1st born - I was 29. I was doubly blessed to have my (step) grandparents. I took my dad's name and it made Grandpop so happy (I didn't come into their life until I was 12). I had him until I was 38 and grandmom until I was 50. So lucky to to have them so long
I cried. Your stories are so touching. I miss my grandmom and grandpop. Can't wait to see your next story.
I wish my granddaughter wanted to spend time with us. We moved here in 2002 when the first was 2 years old and the second ready to be born a month later. I will have to say that they both have jobs and are in college but just a phone call or s text would lift my spirits. Pawpaw and I both suffer with debilitating pain and we hardy. .
She has 14 kids not 24, and she was a midwife and delivered most of the kids in your community this was in the 40 s she was one of a kind
Brings back memories of my grandmother, she has 24 kids and showed all of them real love and us grandkids to, only thing she would get into.you about was scaring her baby chickens or makeing fun of some one
I’m trying to blink the tears away. Thank you for a very touching post. I’m a grandma myself and I can feel your grandpa’s love for you!
This was so heartwarming! Only two of my grandparents are alive, only one of which I'm close with but we don't have the best relationship (I can't even count the amount of times I've been left crying because of something she said to me or when she thought I couldn't hear) but I knew a lot of elderly couples growing up so I pretty much had 30 grandparents. It's so beautiful to see this relationship though.
As a grandpa of 5 ranging from 1 mth to 9 yrs old, gotta admit this really chokes me up. I can only hope my grandkids appreciate me as much as Megan loves her grandpa. At the end of your years what else is there really?
I absolutely loved this post. Yes, it made me cry. I too had special relationships with my grandparents and cherish them even more now that they're gone. Nothing is better than that special relationship.
This is great! I wish my grandparents were good people. Just remember that they are adults, with storied lives; not children. Be careful about calling them, "cute." It can feel very demeaning. Also, elders deserve respect, peace, and care, when they are good people, but not every adult is a good person. This has ever been a struggle for those who have to cut family out of their lives. Those adults will cry about being lonely, too, but they only abuse once they get company, again. Anyway, this was awesome, and I'm glad you could spend time with your grandpa!
Thank you! I'm crying my eyes out now. I miss my grandparents so much and i think it's wonderful the OP has sleepovers with her grandfather! Wholesome, cute, and full of love.
Last christmas was my first without my grandpa. I really miss him. :(
I feel so bad for myself reading this; someone posting his so personal life publicly, must be feeling so empty inside.
I was lucky to get the chance to spend a good amount of time with my grandparents (on my dads side), even as an adult. My grandfather and I use to spend a lot of time in his workshop making things out of wood, and later when he was too old, used to take regular ice cream trips to the local DQ. Grandma loved it when I stayed with her during the days anytime my aunt (her caregiver at the time) was out. We had so much fun. Sadly both have long since passed. But at least I have those memories.
This makes me happy to see she is spending time with her grandpa while he is still alive. I lost my grandma, uncle and grandpa last year within about 6 months. I miss them so much 🥺😭
Really wish grandpa can stay in the same house with his children and grandchildren. I cant imagine living alone for 92 old man. Lonely and must be difficult for him to do the chores in the house. I just dont understand, is it normal in western country to let grandpa lives alone? How if something happen to him in that house? This story is not touching my heart. If u love him, do more for him.
This is so incredibly wholesome, and cute, other than making me regret not spending more time with my grandparents, this was well worth the time to read.
As someone who was super close to her granny i have to say, i cried while reading this ❤ it makes me remember all the good times and cherish everything in between. Wonderful people make the world go round!
Now I need to cry. My grandfather died in 2016, my grandmother 3 years prior to him. My family hasn't felt the same since. I miss them both so much and there's not much I wouldn't give to have one more day with them.
This post has me tearing up. I never met my mom's parents as they both passed before I was even born. My dad's parents were around but I only grew up around them til I was 4, then my dad joined the military so we moved away. My pap passed when I was 11. I've been told even though he didn't show it he adored me so much, probably partly because I wasn't around all the time. My gram made it to 98. She's been gone for 5 years now, but I still miss hearing her laugh. She was ornery til the end.
This is probably the sweetest thing on the internet. Thank you for posting it. Give your grandpa a hug for me.
I think that's possibly one of the sweetest stories I've ever read. Thank you for sharing it.
I love this story. Grandparents are the best. I lost my grandma a week ago and I'm still heartbroken as it happen out of no where and fast. My grandpa is feeling very lonely now. They were married 60 years. I wish i was in the same country as him so I could spend time with him. he's 88 :(
I remember delivering mail to your grandparents. They always were so sweet to me and you lived across the street . That is so special of you to do that. I know it made his day.
As an old grampa with 16 healthy happy beautiful grand babies I just have to say Meg your love for your grampa is his reason for getting up each you are that important to him. Please keep sharing we all need yours and your grampas encouragement.
My mom (May she rest in peace)called them pajama parties. We would all meet at my cousins house and play cards and chat all night. I really miss her and doing that.
One of my greatest regrets is that I didn't spend enough time with my grandparents when I had the chance. I will never get that time back.
My 22 y/o still will go and spend a day or sometimes a weekend at his nana and papas house. When my FiL had open heart surgery, both of my adult boys took turns going over and spending a couple of days with him while he recovered
I loved this story. I lived with my great grandmother when I was young and she took care of me after a car accident--she was in her late 70's at the time. When I was a teacher, my grandmother would have me come over to her house to get a coffee and a homemade cake to take to work just so she had some company for a while. I cherish all my memories of my great grandparents and grandparents. You could learn so much from them as well.
I lost my mom four months ago; she was an excellent grandmother and great grand mother, and this story made me smile to think of her.
Meanwhile I'm over here impressed that a 92 year old man knows how to text. My own grandmother can't remember to swipe to the next tablet screen to find solitaire.
Beautiful story and people ❤! My sleepovers with my grandparents were my very favorite things in life. They made me feel so loved and special. Thanks for sharing this with us.
