Woman Loses It Over Nephew’s Unhinged Behavior, Tells Sister She’s Gonna Sue
There are around 1.86 billion PC gamers worldwide. And many of them take it very seriously. They invest time and money into their hobby, with some competing on a professional level. Of course, equipment doesn’t come cheap. So when one woman’s 3-year-old nephew completely trashed her $2,000 gaming set-up, she was beyond livid.
The woman shared how the kid and his mom had recently spent the night and how she’d closed her office door, asking them to please stay out of that area. She awoke the following morning to cracked monitors, juice in the tower, keyboard caps lying around, and general chaos. To make matters worse, the woman’s sister is blaming her for not “baby-proofing” her home—and the rest of the family agrees. She’s considering going to court, but has first turned to the internet for advice.

There’s a big difference between an average computer and a gaming machine

Unlike those of us who use our PCs or laptops for general use, browsing the net, writing documents, saving files, or logging onto Zoom meetings, gamers have very specific requirements when it comes to what their machines are capable of.
According to PC International, a gaming PC is a powerful computer designed primarily for video games. “One of its many significant advantages lies in the level of performance it offers,” reads the site. “In other words, this type of machine can support advanced video games with heavy graphics and high-level features.”
While a classic computer user might be satisfied with standard computer performance, that can handle office applications, a gamer expects a lot more. They don’t tolerate graphics glitches, and they certainly wouldn’t be happy if their gaming is interrupted by the computer freezing or crashing. Overheating is also a big no-no because many gamers tend to play for extended periods of time.
For this reason, many gamers tend to invest more in their machines than the average Joe. According to data center platform Andover, “$5000 is common for a ‘high end’ game PC. Some of them go for $10,000 or more. Some graphics cards cost over $1500 and even fancy cases can cost $300.”
Gamers also spend money on other gear like professional headsets, comfortable gaming chairs, keyboards, mice, and controllers. Some even splurge on special glasses to protect their eyes while sitting in front of their computer screens for long hours.
As per Slashgear, they’re designed specifically with gamers in mind. “These amber-tinted glasses aim to block out blue light as much as possible without compromising the look or quality of the screen,” reads the site.
Recent data shows that the gaming industry is set to be worth over $691 billion by 2029. Sales revenue for gaming software alone has increased by almost 4x since 2008, reaching an estimated $39.45 billion in 2025.

Updated today. PC is salvageable with a deep clean & new parts. BIL paying for repairs. Bombshell - BIL brought kid back to apartment- kid couldn't open office door. It was too heavy. BIL suspects sis did the damage after claiming OP is addicted to internet gambling or something.
Not is it only disgusting behaviour by the sister, it's scary to think of someone so controlling and deranged raising a child. I wonder if BIL has stopped to think about how repulsive she actually is.
Load More Replies...Notice how everyone who says OP should bear any responsibility, or should have locked the door, etc, all talk like they have kids. They don't remember how they learned the hard way how destructive little kids can be, and they assume everyone knows this as it has become common sense to them. As a vet I am occasionally surprised that people don't already know some very basic and common sense things (to me), like how a syringe works (can't come up with a better example right now). Because I learned these things so long ago that I don't really remember what it's like not knowing some of these things. Edited to finish, posted accidently early.
When I read the kid had already pulled books out and poured juice on the carpet, I was really wondering if the kid ever hears 'no'. 3 years old is old enough to know you can't do that, distract him with other things he can play with. Also the way he wrecked her set-up gives me the feeling he went for maximum damage, the kid should know you don't handle things like that. Is he allowed to wreck things at home? Does he get punished if he breaks something on purpose, or is it more like 'oh honey you shouldn't have done that' soft approach. It should learn actions have consequences. I've been around my share of toddlers and never seen or heard about one wreaking havoc like that.
From experience: once you've gone NC with one family member, it gets easier with successive ones. Sounds like OP is gonna need to know that soon.
I do not allow kids in my house for this reason. It would take WEEKS to child proof all of the art and tech that I have. Its not not possible. I'm not rich, I'm just old and have spent years and years collecting stuff.
I have Lego buildings EVERYWHERE. They are very enticing to little hands, but on the rare occasions my nephews are over at my place, they are watched (especially the 3 1/2 year old). The 6 1/2 year old is a Lego builder himself and has done sets well above his age, so he’s pretty respectful because he knows what goes into making the sets.

Three year old toddlers are definitely not uncontrollable. You know how my sister & I learned? Our mom smacked us when we didn't listen. Happened once that I can remember, and my memories go back to when I was two years old.
Uhh well I don’t think that’s the way to deal with it. My brother and I were fine because my parents parented (and my mom was a preschool teacher, so she knew all sorts of “tricks”). My two nephews (3 1/2 and 6 1/2) can be a lot, but they’re not destructive and definitely know about boundaries.
Load More Replies...I could say A LOT here but will shorten it down to: kid is a little sh!t because he hasn't been taught the difference between right and wrong. Rest of family are deluded.
When anyone in the family says anything about what happened, ask them if it's ok if you throw bricks through their car windows. If they say no, then tell them to STFU, or that's what you will do.
If her husband doesn’t pay (granted he would make her pay him back prob) then take her to court. I’m sure u had pics before and after the kid f****d your stuff up for the ins. She knows you work from home there. Like if you worked at an office an they stayed there and the goblin did it there she wouldn’t feel responsible at all? Naw. Take her to court. That’s your job there covered in juice and crackers. And yeah prob should have locked the door but also she was supposed to watch him. She slept through him getting up? But he managed to get crackers and juice? And go back and forth bringing the stuff into that room? She. Owes. You. And the kid needs a f*****g spanking.

So I don't have kids but common sense but she was told he was a handful. However the sister did close the door and the kiddo still made a mess. The only time I would baby prof my house is if I knew they were coming for more than two days and if I know they are monkeys have a talk with mom/dad and say I'm not paying to baby prof my house bring the locks ECT. And if you won't you are not.welcome. Not because of my stuff but I worry about safety of your kid. If something happens to them I would feel awful! Also I would tell them I will do the best I can and as much as I want to see them their safety will always come first. Also for people that don't have kids equate them to an untrained puppy energetic loving and will get into everything they can. Don't always blame the parents realize they are basically trying to control a puppy.
I literally have 3 year old twins and their behaviour is so much better. They wouldn't even think about doing something like this. But I'm an actual parent unlike sister by the sound of it

My friend, the toddler poured juice into the PC itself. As someone who once accidentally spilled an energy drink on her computer when I was in my 20s, that PC is destroyed. I guarantee you the juice didn't just ruin a few "components". If nothing else, there's sticky juice residue on EVERYTHING in there and even if some components "technically" still function, they may short out later on because they STILL HAVE JUICE RESIDUE ON THEM. Yeah, OP can take everything apart and clean each thing carefully, but again, having spilled an energy drink onto/into my computer once, I did that and there's NO guarantee that you'll get all the residue. All it takes is one little bit to re-liquefy when the PC heats up again and then it'll fry the new/replaced components.
