51 Pics Of Polish People Roleplaying As Americans Celebrating The 4th Of July
InterviewAmerican pop culture is so widespread that it would almost be impossible to find an inhabited patch of land not affected by it. Coming from movies, books, the internet, and other mediums, the idea of the "American Dream" is most likely familiar to lots of people around the world, affecting the way one sees Americans and their lifestyle.
How people from other countries actually view Americans is revealed by one group in Poland called 4th of July LARP (live-action role-playing). It is a slice-of-life project where people roleplay as contemporary Americans acting out various scenarios that they imagine happening in the United States during their Independence Day.
As the group describes on their Facebook page, the 4th of July LARP is a drama about squandering the American dream. "On July 4, 1776, the United States declared independence. The newcomers from the Old Continent wanted to create a new state in America, built on democracy, freedom and equality. More than two hundred years later, many Americans live under conditions different from what the nation's founding fathers imagined. Barely making ends meet, striving to be family members and worthy Americans despite poverty and exclusion. Although they live on the fringes of society, their home - a small town lined with caravans and shaky houses - is for them the essence of the 'land of the free and the home of the brave'. This is a story about them."

I went through all the photos and it is now a goal in life to spend a 4th of July with these people!
The 4th of July LARP group has been organizing LARPs for years now and is constantly looking for interesting and important topics. "Many great blockbuster LARPs are in fantasy or sci-fi settings - this time we wanted to make a game in a contemporary environment with an illusion of actually being there. While scouting for locations, we found an inexpensive holiday resort full of mobile homes - a site you won’t often see in Poland. It reminded us of an American trailer park and we decided to make that the core theme of our game."
So mostly you are larping as white trash? Honestly these are super entertaining and I'm glad ya’ll are having fun! Love it lol
Ohio flag! I live in Ohio, but don't dress like that lol. Cute though
looks like she may have channeled herself from the deep south with those daisy dukes
Even though they are Polish, they all grew up surrounded by American pop culture and are familiar with the idea of the "American Dream". "We’ve used the visual language and widely known archetypes to create a setting of a trailer park in the USA. From the very beginning, we aimed to be respectful toward people living in low-income neighborhoods and approach the topic with sensitivity and respect."
Either from a different time period or a young hipster whose irony may be lost on her parents. (Not all hipsters are from well-to-do or even middle-class backgrounds...)
The organizers stressed that this project is not in any way a comedy or a pastiche, but a slice-of-life drama type of LARP. "We stayed away from comedy (like Trailer Park Boys) or supernatural elements (like Stranger Things), taking inspiration from documentaries, books, and movies touching on this subject in a slightly different way (f.e. Hillbilly Elegy, Nomadland, etc.)."
That's Neegan's bat from Walking Dead! Her (the bat) name is Lucille. How is that not pastiche?
"Our LARP explores the mythos of the American Dream - or more so the Broken American Dream. Players experience human stories, portraying characters with unique backgrounds. They face their daily life and the issues that come with it. Some are universal or similar to the ones in Poland (such as struggling to provide for your family or combating addiction), and some are specific to the U.S. (such as reliance on private health care or the prevalence of firearms). We wanted to create an immersive experience about facing those hardships both as an individual and as a community, about making impossible choices, about finding your place in your small homeland."
Just me, or does she look a bit like Scarlett Johansson? 🤷
Don't forget the big ladies who wear clothing two sizes too small.
I think it’s kinda funny that this whole thing is them pretending to be American and it’s so not accurate and yet so freaking accurate at the same time 😂😂😂😂
The one on the right (my right at least) has a hard time keeping a strait face! :)
So I know multiple people in the 90 - 110K a year bracket that dress this way. I make 28K a year, and I dress the same. It's not really poverty thing as I think they may have been thinking as much as it is a cultural thing.
Lol but these kind of people in the US probably are too drunk to notice, so I say it's on point.
Load More Replies...everyone in america knows this couple and we all know she spit in his drink
This is the closest one so far but the watch is too nice. Looks too happy too. You really have to be depressed

He has the right expression finally. But I know no man that wears shorts and boots unless he is running out to the car ir the mailbox and just grabs the first shoes he sees
Apparently you aren't from the midwest. I see this ALL the time!! It's usually cowboy boots, though.
Load More Replies...I regret that I have only one up vote to give this. So does my dog.
Load More Replies...in every state. doesn't matter whether it's an urban setting or countryside- she's always there.

Load More Replies...Hippie family Poles? Darn, I missed out on that; trying to recreate it with a little help from my Polish family here.
I feel like she prepped for this by studying Anna Nicole Smith's Guess Jeans ads from thirty years ago. And she nailed it.
I think the one in the left says police and the one in the right might say patriarchy tho Idk. Only guessing from what I think is the intention of this whole pic collection.
Load More Replies...We do love our bikes but I'd say the chick is too cute, small, clean, and pretty.
Accurate to American Sitcom aesthetic in that a pudgy man-baby's, for somehow, snagged himself a woman 10,000x more attractive than he is. The universe caters to male fantasy. What's more American than that?
You realize they could actually be together in real life, right? You're calling out preventives sexism by indulging in body shaming instead. It's icky. Be better.
Load More Replies...And she was serving breakfast to some other dude. So she's either cheating with the cop, or on the cop. Both are accurate.
Ah, the vet in uniform despite not being currently serving. Seen a few too many of these.
Is a difference between a vet uniform and other uniforms?
Load More Replies...That's an acute pancreatitis if I've ever seen it. 100% extra kielbasa for including it in a LARP.
no but also the blueberries and raspberries over your vanilla ice cream to make it festive
Harleys revvin' up and I got me big ole cross for protection. Works every time.
Uh - not sure. Maybe trying to decide on whether to protest or not? Or go hang out at the next beer joint? Or heard that Johnny Depp is down the street and try to get an autograph?
I think it says Taste Freedom, you can see the "D" on the can she's touching.
Load More Replies...So many of these are too "on the nose" 2 b convincing, but maybe "convincing" isn't what they were goi g 4
Lennon glasses; Ringo beard; George hanging out in the background at a refrigerator - but what's Marley doing in the mix?
Yeah, cuz we all know no white people actually get arrested in America. Duh. -.-;
Load More Replies...I'm from Southern California, if he lost the long sleeves he'd look right at home in my neck of the woods
Load More Replies...Maybe he confused 4th of July with Cinco de Mayo? I doubt either is widely recognized on the other side of the globe, easy mistake
Load More Replies...While everybody else went for the "Kentucky Hillbilly" look, she went straight for "Ten dollar Vegas streetwalker"
Or from many places the world over. There must be an international clothing catalog for this look.

Yeah - America, sixty years past. Good old vinyl, feathers in the hair, psychedelic album covers. Now go on inside and smoke a doobie.
This looks like a Midwestern country boy and his restaurant waitress girlfriend out on a noon walk.
Nah, goth people aren't that patriotic, nor do they participate in such extravagant celebrations, especially with a slight smile.
She just bored with the "celebration" and wants to watch the people go by.
I think that s/he’s tattooing the girl on the couch?
Load More Replies...Honestly just look like a group of American girls killing time on campus.
Because there are a lot of people descended from Poles in the US.
Load More Replies...Man, this could be anything. College fan girl with gay girl and a pot of quiche and Brussels sprouts and lit candles for - I dunno. Gimme a hint?
I'm half American and Polish living in Poland and I honestly don't know what's going on here. I don't know anyone that would do or condone this here and it's embarrassing for me to see 🤦 Normal Poles do not see Americans this way!
Weird, because that's how most Americans view a sizeable portion of other Americans. The rest view them even worse. For example , the "cop" is knocking instead of throwing a flash-bang through the window. and coming in with a tactical response team.
Load More Replies...I'm an American, and I think this is funny if sad. If people want to cosplay redneck culture because they find it interesting, fine. But I'm disheartened that this is how some folks in the world see us.
I'm also a born and raised US citizen, and I've participated in trailer park caricature themed parties and had a lot of fun. I've also lived in a trailer park before. If you can't laugh at yourself, you need to upgrade your sense of humor. I have no problem with these Polish people larping the sterotypes, but now I want to see what they look like daily for comparison!
Load More Replies...Fantastic. You've all managed to cosplay the smallest minority of ignorant, uncultured Americans. I'm not even the tiniest bit surprised, given the multitude of comments from Pandas who appear to believe this ridiculous stereotype, while putting their own culture on a pedestal. Grow up.
"The smallest monitory..." Where do you live, exactly? I'm wondering because, while yes this is a stereotype, it is so for a reason. You call them uncultured and ignorant, but they're simply products of their environment, and that environment is widespread. No, definitely not everyone in America is like that, but yeah, there are a big chunks of American neighborhoods that look just like this, I mean they nailed it. They're not saying "all Americans are like this ", it specifically described role-playing ppl of the "failed American dream" but who are still happy with their life and still love their country. You talk about ppl who "believe this stereotype", like trailer parks are unicorns or something. Whether you believe it or not, those pictures showcase a very real lifestyle that is prevalent in America. Just because you haven't seen it doesn't mean it doesn't exist...
Load More Replies...I think it's great satire and a real mirror to what we do here in the US on many occasions - let's say - Cinco de Mayo as an example. Incarceration is big business in the US - so not surprising to see how much that figures into this fantasy. If this is a critique or a celebration - it's still very informative to see how others see us and not something to be angry about.
I'm an American, and I'm both amused and saddened. I can also confirm that there is a section of the US that is represented perfectly by this (except for the ladies in the flashy short skirts and heavy makeup... that look is considered overdressed in redneck culture).
For real. I've only seen people making fun of America and it's not funny, it's offensive. Not everybody is the same
Load More Replies...I can't believe somebody legitimately thought this would be a fruitful idea."Hey, you know what would be fun? Cosplaying poor people from a foreign country for laughs on the internet! Tee hee hee we're so progressive!"
You may have a point, but I don't think this is meant as mean-spirited mockery. At any rate, the segment portrayed here is not the poorest of the poor - and wouldn't count as *poor* in most countries, in terms of purchase-power parity. (In access to health-care, quality education, etc., well, that's another matter.) Roleplaying as homeless people would be something else.
