Someone Notices Rihanna’s New Lingerie Is Different For Thin And Plus-Size Women, Posts Side-By Side Comparison
Rihanna took the cosmetic world by storm when she gave women of all shades what they had asked for for so many years – the correct shade – so when she released ads for her new body inclusive Savage X Fenty lingerie line we knew once again that Rhi Rhi would bless us – for some though the praise was premature.
On Wednesday the singer turned style mogul released her Savage X Fenty’s Valentine’s Day Decadence collection with bra sizes in 32A to 42DD for bras and XS to 3X for panties and bralettes, and while the sizes ranged – so did the designs. Teen Vogue Fashion blogger Alysse Dalessandro took to Twitter upon the design release to question why the design differences between the smaller and larger sizes were so drastic, using the “Hearts Unlined Bra” and “Hearts Half Cup Bralette” designs as an example.
As some pointed out while structural differences are sometimes required to give plus sized women more support, that doesn’t have to come at the cost of sexiness. To further prove this point Instagram user Ashleigh Tribble, who has called out Savage X Fenty before, told Teen Vogue ” other brands that cater to plus-sizes have no problem creating the same, or even sexier, lingerie.”

Rihanna released her Savage X Fenty Valentine’s Day Decadence collection on Wednesday, with a campaign focused on championing women of all shapes and sizes
But one fashion blogger quickly noticed some pretty obvious design differences between the small and plus sizes

She also said that “A lot of people have pointed out they think that the straight size bra would not work for plus-size women. I think that’s not recognizing all of the ways that personal style and body type vary by person. Not everyone cares about support. That’s a personal choice.”

Share on FacebookOh, the uproar! Finally, we have something to be offended by, again. Brexit chaos in Europe? War in Syria? Shutdown in the US? Hell, who cares, we can be offended by the fact that apparel with fine details does not scale from XS to XXXL. (I truly hope this post does not offend anyone, but I am rather sure it will.)
I agree with Meowton, but really, the importance of female clothing issues is often underestimated. I understand ending a war is more important (I was literally born into one), and I understand very poor women cannot even afford to buy and wear ANY bra. But does that mean that I have to live a miserable life because there's no support and no clothes that would emphasize my otherwise beautiful body? Life is not eternal and youth is short. You have to enjoy it while you can, but without proper clothes, there's something that's missing. It's about self-expression we're talking about, not about some self-entitlement and exaggerated demands.
Load More Replies...I think both bra's look quite nice actually. And wow, very sexy underpants, for both the regular size as the plus size. Too bad Im more of a comfort type of girl ;)
Those bottoms look pretty comfortable. Depends on what they are made out of though.
Load More Replies...The bras are different because larger breasted women need more support. Those flimsy little straps in the small bras do nothing to hold up bigger boobs, and that would make me feel uncomfortable if I wore them . It's all about practicality - stop being so offended over everything
Pretty sure nothing about that bra was meant for support anyway
Load More Replies...I have almost zero boobs, so I can't speak for big boobed women's struggles, but what I can say from my experience is that bras for tiny boobs have to have more detail to get interesting since there's nothing there.... a bra for a medium or big size is a frame for the boobs, a bra for tiny tits is the art itself. My swimming suit top has frills on it because I'll look flat if it doesn't. I think different body shapes don't necessarily need to have the exact same clothes... there are clothes I don't wear because they don't look good in my flatness, but there are some that look better with no boobs. And bust sizes is a separated issue, imo, since it doesn't necessarily has to do with your weight.
That´s really nice comparison with frames and art. Anyway I would still like some art bra for my big boobs because I hate them and I don´t think they are anywhere near being pretty and unfortunately only thing you can get is a bit of lace, bit of mesh and few basic colors.
Load More Replies...A garment had to be engineered in order to be functional! Much like a building or machine. There's a science to that! You can't simply magnify the design. Different trims and even fabric has to be used sometimes. A garment goes through quite a vigorous quality control and testing before it ends up on a shelf. There are laboratories, that test all the components. Fashion design and manufacturing is an impressive process, although, what a consumer sees is only the glam part of it - a tip of the iceberg
Good point. It is just impossible to do identical design when there is a huge difference between the sizes. It would not be wearable.
Load More Replies...As for me, this is just another unnecessary rage. I do not know all this collection, only these examples from Bored Panda (and I seriously don't feel the need to dig deeper). These presented here looks sexy and pretty cool, even if it is not really my style. Ok, there are different designs for different sizes but I personally see no problem here. I hate all kinds of body shaming but we must be realistic - something that looks good on curvy women will not look good on the very skinny ones (and the other way around). Not because one body type is worse than another but because they're *different* body types. It is just normal. Also, some clothes that are comfy when you have small size are extremly uncomfortable when you have bigger size. As a matter of fact, I think that these designers should be respected for wanting all their clients to look good and trying to match the fashions to the type of body. Everyone is sexy, but not everyone has to be sexy in the same way.
must add, it's not only about looking good. as mentioned above, if you're really busty you're simply not considering wearing a half-bra cup because it just won't do! it's going to look ...funny, and feel extremely uncomfortable, and this is why i like this kind of lingerie but am very aware that's not something for me, being an average body with non-average boob size - end of story.
Load More Replies...OMG!! When will this end?? For Pete's sake, stop inventing problems, just to be offended by them!
You always say that, and I have to wonder why you're here in the first place. Well fitted bras are IMPORTANT.
Load More Replies...I am a short person and I have two cantaloupe size mammary glands . This 'Bralette' thing won't work ! I need support and a lot of it. I also need decent size straps going over the shoulder that do not cut into me. I didn't ask to be this size. It just happened. I think the bras for us 'full bodied' girls are attractive and well designed. Go Rhianna !.
The differences in body language by In Rihanna's lingerie line is also striking. I'm wondering if they couldn't get a more confident plus sized model or did she get instructions to pose like that. About it being comfortable: I don't think this is a type of lingerie that is meant to stay on for very long.
I agree the plus sized model here looks uncomfortable and looks like in the pics like she wouldnt be seen dead in these even for her partner like its Not her rthing totally lets down the images really
Load More Replies...as a fashion designer and pattern maker I have to say that it is very dificult to make a mesh bra in that style for a fuller size, the other comparisons, are different fabrics and cups....
My only question is what will you dip shits be offended about tomorrow. Get a life.
They will complain that some people breathe in too much oxygen leaving less for them, or maybe complain that birds were not made to be able to breathe under water. Who knows, there will always be something to complain about.
Load More Replies...Am I the only one who thinks this absolutely ridiculous? Not the changes themselves, but the "controversy" over them. Why is BP posting this nonsense?
Really? I think big girls don´t want their boobs getting away from those tiny cups....
The design is different based off of size because different sizes need different support...
NO! a small girl doesnt need any support. A bigger girl or someone with big chest size needs the extra support. Could be skinny and DDs. Stop trying to find Injustice where none exists
NO! petite girls dont even need support, a bigger girl needs more. Stop trying to find injustice where there is none
I'm actually grateful that they took the time to design lingerie with more support for curvy women as we tend to have bigger breast, I'm not that curvy and I couldn't wear the thinner straps due to my bra size
......this looks bloody awful in any size. Looks like some cheap trash 'sexy' lingerie they'd be selling in an underground crossing for the price of 2$ per thing. And even then you could probably find better stuff there.
I can't believe people complain about these minor details. To be honest both types look amazing and you do not have to work in the lingerie industry to understand that bigger sizes may need different details to still look as amazing. Should it clearly show pictures of how the bigger sizes have these differences? For sure, but going onto social media to complain about this things seem childish.
Ya know, if you don't like the plus size versions, then don't buy it. They are pretty. Not everything made by every maker is going to appeal or work for EVERYONE! So, don't see something you consider suitable for you personally? Turn the page. Everyone's vision is different...so, vive la difference!
So as someone who buys in both normal sizes and plus sizes. a few quick thoughts. 1. Sweet , I'll be able to find my size. 2. Are the plus sizes going to fit me better because they are designed for my curves? If yes, great. If no, why design them differently. 3. They needed a better model/photographer or editor, cuz, yea that (what I am guessing like a size 10) chick needs to flaunt those undies if they want me to buy them.
As a 34DDD finding a sexy bra is damn near impossible. Sure online but every bra fits different. Seems like once you hit DD the bras are nude full coverage and forget a good strapless!
well, its a good thing we dont have anything better to complain about
*eyeroll* It's the material choice. Notice that the other examples of "strappy" plus sized bras are all fully lined, padded, and heavily structured. They can have straps, because the straps are literal decoration, not providing any boob support. The material of the controversial bras is gauzy net. It does not have lining, structure seams, or other support. This material is flimsy and, more importantly, stretches. With the full-coverage version, the entire cup will stretch around the heavy breast in it, conforming to the shape and remain flattering and comfortable, while the edging keeps the netting in the cup's shape. The half way up, strappy one, relies on the multi-point straps to support the cups. This version would instead stretch in a weird way, pulling at the strap points, and distorting. The too- thin straps would probably wear or snap quickly. The other bras made of this gauze net are also full coverage, for this reason.
If you think it's hard to find plus size options you should do the leg work and try and find tall sizes for women. It's so much more difficult and find clothing cut for the tall frame. Women who are plus size at least have an option to go down in weight. Try going down in height. Even if you take a hack saw and cut your legs off. The torso is still going to be elongated. Really tired of swimsuits and jumpers flossing me in the vagina. And my boobs not ending where my nipples start. It's not about spillage they are not even in the bra or shirt to begin with. If I go up a size it still doesn't fit.
Yes, I do agree with the fact that gifts are afterall indispensable part of Lover's life. For my last birthday my lover gifted me with the Wild Cheetah Lingerie bought online from BelleD'amour store. I was as crazy as ever with the charming Lingerie which he bought from Online. wild-5cd53...d3774a.png
As a big guy I know that clothing made for me can have slight different details even from the same brand, often they do this because clothing makers understand that these details are important to be able to work for different figures. IE to make you look your best no matter the size.
Ugh, everyone is MISSING the point of the full coverage vs. sexy (small) bra. The point is: she should have the OPTION to wear the exact same bra a small busted woman does, not what your *personal* preference is as a large busted woman who only wears full coverage bras. Literally, she shows examples of it being done by other brands; yes, it is physically possible for large busts to wear sexy, strappy bras because apparently you can't wrap your head around that? Just because you wouldn't wear it, doesn't mean she, or any plus woman shouldn't have the option. (I mean they are literally trying to sell it as the same bra, which it isn't.)
I am not plus size, but have big boobs & I utterly understand that they need additional scaffolding, but when a brand is bragging about their range for women who do not fit standard sizes (in whatever manner) they should be able to satisfy their target market. At least now manufacturers are cottoning on to the idea that we want & deserve pretty things too! The average female body shifts with the decades, manufacturers need a better finger on the pulse!
I don't believe women could be so thick, of course the design would have to change and that slimmer girls can show more, simple engineering principals at work here, bigger boobs need more support, the design for bigger girls would look wrong on the slimmer girl, also some look like there is a cover-up in the tummy dept, wouldn't a bigger girl prefer that any way, I and my partner are 18stone, neither of us like it, but we are stuck for health reasons at that weight and gaining on 19 stone slowly we wouldn't want to be shwoing all. Simple fact is up to a certain size we mostly all look okay, beyond that we need to be aware that we don't. The real problem here is that the designers goofed, they should have been more creative and made something which looked good on all body sizes, good luck with that one.
I was a professional bra fitter, and comparing the Fenty pink bras to those other bras are like apples and oranges. Those bras have underwire, and the pink Fenty doesn't. That means they can do fancy stuff with the banding and straps. There is one bra she shows that doesn't have underwire (Torrid), but it has a thick cloth band that makes the support, and the Fenty one doesn't. That said, I agree they probably could have matched the style a little better, after all the 'smaller' one is cut completely differently, which doesn't make sense. Unfortunately, speaking from experience, most bra manufacturers have no clue how plus size bras work-- it's very hard to find smaller cups & push up bras as they assume bigger women all have big boobs and want no push up. And the cut of the pink bra is a super common plus-size non-underwire style of bra. It is super outdated, and gives a pointy boob look. It's basically a prettified version of Triumphs 'Doreen' style. I do think they can do better.
I'm not plus sized, and I think I like the plus sized version better. I like a bit more coverage.
It's sad. Yes, she's including larger sizes. But to change the look/style between smaller/larger sizes is saying "oh I got you girl - but we gotta cover that stomach & strap those big tits in" ---- just don't even bother!
I have big heavy boobs. They'd never be supported by the skinny model in the big size. I'm suffering looking for bras as I've a narrow back and bras in Brazil are really expensive, specially those who are for people like me, cup size really different from the "strap". Not gonna pay 80 usd (320 reais) on a strapless bra that really fits me
As a 42H these cup sizes wouldnt fit me... but I will say lingerie bras with strappy bits come in my size. The price tag is just outrageous. There is no reason why they couldn't have made the same style larger. Also, I don't wear my sexy strappy bras anywhere besides at home for my husband, so support don't matter. They are just for show. I wouldn't spend money on a mesh bra with fake pasties, just saying. Even if they made them in my size.
Ridiculous. People need to stop complaining about everything. It’s a stunning collection and I’m convinced people just like to be angry at things
You have every right to be offended. But why can't you do it quietly? Why bug everyone else with your hypersensitivity to the harsh realities of life ?
To be honest, I am a big sized girl and I wouldn't buy any of those in the picture of Rihanna's brand. Because for me they lack support, after having breast cancer and a breast reduction (and still big), I feel a lot better with a bit more support. So everybody has a different choice concerning bra's. And now there's enough to choose from and that's progress. I'm still looking for trousers to fit my long legs (the proportion is just a bit off, thnaks mum)... so anyone?
Offended much? Just take an apple and try to carry it in one of those flimsy plastic bags, then do the same with a cantaloupe. Then do the same with a water melon. Understand weight and physics and material strength. Then go back and edit your complainerposts.
It's not "being fat" it's "being plus size" (sarcasm). I'm far from body shaming but being severely overweight, like the lady in this post, is never good for your health. While I understand that she also wants to have nice clothes and underwear (because why not), being overweight definitely is not a reason to celebrating.
Load More Replies...Poor Rihanna! After all the hours she spent designing, creating patterns, sewing prototypes, fittings, negotiating with suppliers and factories, and working on deadlines all to have her designs savaged because the plus size versions look like Halloween costumes....
Who cares what the difference in design is..it all looks uncomfortable.
I think she just love to complaint.. if they not give it what you want just buy others.. shessshhh..
Lol how? One of them is covering almost the entire surface of her boobs and chest. The other one has cutouts.

Who cares what the difference in design is..it all looks uncomfortable.
I think she just love to complaint.. if they not give it what you want just buy others.. shessshhh..
Lol how? One of them is covering almost the entire surface of her boobs and chest. The other one has cutouts.
