Revenge is never the right answer, and it’s always better to be the bigger person and turn the other cheek, but if you absolutely insist on getting your own back on somebody, at least make your revenge is proportionate to the wrong you’ve experienced.
Take this story of retribution for example, which was recently posted on Quora in response to a question asking if anybody had ever been responsible for having a teacher fired. One student, having realized their pen was out of ink, asked to borrow one from their teacher right before an important exam. The teacher apparently refused to help the student, who then embarked upon a personal quest to ruin that person’s life, but did they go too far? Read the story and let us know in the comments.

Never believe any story that only gives one side. Anyone who is willing to go to these sociopathic lengths to get revenge is likely to not tell the truth.
I didn't want to say "sociopathic"... but the author gives a ton f clues that he's narcissistic: Enormous ego, powertrips and revenge fantasies, preoccupied with prestige and public appearance (his school, his rich parents, his use of words), a gigantic sense of entitlement, not being able to let go of a grudge... Lucky pandas who never saw how destructive a sociopath can be. I'm happy that other pandas noticed that something is off, too.

Yes, he is total 'psychopath' - I mean he did maintain his calm and didn't act rashly when being publicly humiliated, he totally tried to find legal means to seek justice for himself, he never resorted to physical violence and threads - What a sick individual! xD I like how you mention his rich parents( btw government officials not always mean rich.. but ok ) - when he mentions he doesn't want to get them involve. If the teacher apologized when comforted, story would be over - but no. Sounds like they are both terrible people. They should be best friends. And regardless of the creepy kid, the professor is ultimately responsible as he was the one soliciting prostitutes and harassing women.
You don't know that it's true. This student is such an obsessive little jerk that he could easily have faked everything. You can open accounts on various sites with anyone's name - he sounds like just the kind of jerk that would do it.
Such stories fake or not also exist to show us how people react to them. How they blindly take one side. Many comments here decide 'boy is evil' and ignore what the teacher did, now he is marginally a victim. Or they twist tales of the story or imagine scenarios, like 'boy created the the accounts, and they are fake'. Some people try to twist the story, and pretend they discovered different 'truth', that was not showed to them by someone else - they don't want to be just observers, just pointless entities that have no value to the outcome. :) Taking the story of face value - its a story about justice in a rotten world - you can pretend the boy is scum, or the teacher is victim - but in the end.. it doesn't matter what we think and how 'offended' our broken values are :D
@Aunt Messy Everything in the story could be fake or everything could be true - we would never know. Assuming that the story is true, the news website did verify that the teacher own the account. For the story to sell, they would need proof anyways. You can't just link any account to anyone.

He was just a maniac, but really, anyone who had a grudge with a teacher can relate to this, just a little bit... That fire that burns inside you when getting angry because of someone more powerful than you... I ruined my ex-head mistress and English teacher but it was just by the means of a small subject-mocking ode and her lack of good sense of humor. I got away because I moved to another school.
Not writing that exam could have possibly made him repeat a year and unlike me who similar thing did happen I just sat and cried about how unprofessional some teachers are but dis guy actually did something about it

While I have never done anything close to this to a teacher/superior (or anything harmful at all, really), I side with the student. The ultimate result was the exposure of a cheating bastard. The student fully admits that they goofed off in class and even slept in class, then did not come prepared to a test that literally only required one thing for him to be prepared. I'm from France and mobiles phones are forbidden during classes (Article L511-5 education code), so you have to be really discreet or don't use it at all.I was graduated in 2004 (we had phones) and i still take courses at university, we don't play or sleep or text during the classes even that we are adults, it's a matter of respect for the person who try to teach you.

When's the last time you were in a class at a school? Half the students text, play games, sleep, or watch youtube during class. I've dozed in probably half a dozen classes during my undergrad years. For folks like myself who get very little out of lectures, attending class is just a chore required to avoid a poor grade. This whole thing wouldn't have happened if the school didn't make attendance mandatory.

This all started because the student, whose use of English is atrocious, and could have spent more time learning, was irresponsible in coming to class with one pen, which apparently didn't work. Who is the responsible party for messing up?

I have two problems with this: 1.: I guess someone has to do it, I call utter BS on that story. There's just so much that does not add up. First of all the behaviour of the author sounds highly irrational and illogical (not really traits of someone who should successfully attend a "prestigious university as he hinted at). He actually WAS the bully. If someone where to sleep or fool around during one of my classes I'd kick them out faster than they can say "But I need those credits!". Still, even if the teacher had something against the author, his behaviour sounds highly unlikely. We are talking about a university, their job is literally to enable students to learn and pass exams, so he was more or less legally obliged to help him out. In almost all exams I had to take they even had a box of spare pens just for cases like this, sometimes you weren't even allowed to bring your own.
And even if he refused to help him out, why enter a staring contest with him and not just ask another teacher right away? So the author was literally asking for it. Let's talk about his glorious act of revenge next. The behaviour the author shows is borderline obsessive...so much that it makes it sound completely unbelievable. Why should a student have the private number AND private e-mail of a teacher he took one class from and wasn't even on good terms with? Why was his social media freely accessible to him and completely transparent? Why should someone post his private data when using forum to hire prostitutes in secret? Stuff like this is usually done via PM so it stays a secret...and even IF! The last time I checked hiring a prostitute was no crime, being unfaithful (although it outs you as a total scumbag) neither. But the one thing that is for sure is that the internet never really forgets anything.
I jut did a quick net search and found nothing similar to how things went down after he contacted the press. As it was supposed to be some kind of prestigious institute there should be some at least some traces. As the author claims there was this huge uproar...but there are no articles, comments, posts...nothing about a university teacher getting busted for hiring prostitutes. Which is still no crime...but character assassination is. Given on how many doors the author knocked to get his revenge it should take someone involved after reading this anonymous post five minutes to remember him and figure out who ratted the teacher out to the press. The teacher himself could read this and get a lawyer and prosecute the student. So the author is either really careless or nothing of this ever happened. For me it sound more like a petty revenge fantasy of someone to boost his own ego, fantasising about the kick ass revenge he would enact if someone ever dared to do him wrong.
Which leads me to problem number 2 and the reason I am writing all of this: Why are we advocating this by putting it on a website that is supposed to be about cool people doing cool stuff? Do we need to get worked up about some angry sensationalist crap that most likely never actually happened? Let's stop this right here, right now and enjoy the real life - it's so much more fun. as much as i don't condone the actions of the student, ur example isn't exactly the same. a more accurate example would be: forget a pendrive to copy your presentation, so you figure u'd have just enough time to run down and buy a new one, but ur co doesnt allow u to leave ur desk and basically implies it's your own fault and you should live with the consequence, which inevitable is u getting humiliated in front of the client. what was annoying is that there was a simple solution to the unfortunate fuck up, but the "enemy" simply wont allow you to fix the issue. my two cents.

Back in my school teachers told students to always have 2 pens just in case. Okay I get it teacher was bad but in 'real life' u won't get special treatment cause your pen isn't working. The whole story blows me away. His behavior is quite pathological. With that said, I can't believe though that this guy showed up to a test with only one pen. Usually, I show up to examinations with 4-5 pens and when a calculator is permitted, a spare or two.

The professor was a pervert, unprofessional, and they student was egoistic, and psychopathic. I just hope these kind of people do not exist. Not much of a reason to take revenge on someone. I've had worse teachers. They all came to a cropper because of their own actions. And I must admit that I had some real shadenfreude about that.
Looks to me to be a creative writing assignment designed to examine passion, response and effect. I'd grade the tale 3.4/4.0 with comments that the story: engaged my imagination and attention, was grammatically correct, and met the objectives. I withheld 0.6 for lack of credibility and overkill.
Oddly, this reminds me of a tale I heard long time ago: "There was one architect many years ago. He was rich, but kind-hearted and ambitious man who devoted his life to build bridges and other structures, helpful for his community. Of course, death came to him at some point. But when they scaled the weight of his good actions and compared them to the sins, the second side weighed more. He was completely astounded and asked "But why? I did so many good things in my life, I was fair, helpful..." The answer was"Remember the tiny blind beggar who sat next to your new golden bridge with arches? He begged you to give him a cent. I once had a student who was a chronic liar and whose parents thought their little darling never told a lie. One day he got another student in trouble for what he did out at recess. At the end of the day, I had quite a talk with him about how his lying is really a disgusting habit and will only drive people away from him. That day on the way home on the bus, he kept hitting his own face to make it bright red; so when he got home he ran in crying and told him mom that I hit him so hard that it knocked him over and hurt him really bad. Well, she went up to the main office right way, and the superintendent called me in that night. I had no idea at the time how his face got so red. However, by the next morning about a dozen kids got off the bus and went straight to the principal's office to tell him what Justin did the day before on the bus. So Justin, his mom, the Superintendent, the Principal, and a dozen witnesses, had a meeting during the PE time that day. Mom was shocked.

I'm replying as if this story is true. I've experienced personalities like that teacher, in school, jobs, and life in general. I can't blame the rage the subject felt at being treated so abominably. Except that his actions affected the lives of the man's wife and children. The spouse was probably better off without him, but who knows what actually happened?

I've read several "revenge" articles on this site, and they all seem out-of-proportion to the original slight. And in this case, the "victim's" rage seems comically over-the-top. Everybody handles such situations differently, of course--and maybe it's because I grew up among a lot of angry, hurtful people, and was determined to never be that way myself--but for me, getting the pen from the other proctor would have ended the situation for me. And I get that the whole point of the article is that this wasn't "ordinary" revenge...but wow, this guy sounds like he's going to spend his whole life in "payback" mode. Getting revenge is bad enough, and going to such psychotic lengths to do it is even worse...but bragging about it? Ugh. The moment you were allowed to give the exam again, that should have been the end of it, and a clear victory on your part. Not knowing if the story is true or fiction there is still one thing that everyone should know people like that teacher are everywhere and what the one who wrote this did was a bit obsessive but still necessary for taking down someone who shouldn't have been teaching. The person who wrote this seems slightly unhinged - it was his fault he forgot to check his pen, but he went to extreme lengths over something so petty as the teacher's mocking. But on the teacher cheated on his wife and solicited prostitutes, so I don't feel sorry for him either. Both parties are assholes in one way or another.
