Quarantined Chef Is Gaining Millions Of Views On TikTok For Showing How To Cook Gourmet Meals Using Basic Hotel Room Appliances

Not a big fan of what hotel restaurants have to offer, but love to feast on blueberry pancakes for breakfast? You might be in the shoes of Jago Randles, who was staying in a hotel room for the mandatory 14-day self-isolation as he travelled to Canada to start his new job as a chef.

Originally from the UK, the 23-year-old proved that necessity is the mother of all inventions and didn’t waste his precious time, nor spend tons of money for take-out or ready meals. With a little bit of imagination, armed with a kettle, coffee machine, and clothes iron, he created the most appetizing dishes—anything from Asian-style salmon with steamed bok choi to blueberry pancakes to a steak bathed in blackened peppercorn sauce.

Which the chef smoothly repurposed to serve his needs

Jago might have started a new trend for travellers on a budget who can’t afford expensive meals out, or he’s about to be cursed by hotel workers worldwide for encouraging future indoor bacon sizzlers. In his TikTok account called Isolation Kitchen, he shows that you can cook using common devices. Bringing with him just the most basic chef utensils, he had groceries delivered to the door and in no time (unless, of course, it’s slow-cooked chicken wrapped in bacon on mashed potatoes with mushroom sauce,) he would be ready to present his hungry social media followers with a succulent menu.

He starts with showing the ingredients needed and proceeds to grill the food on a parchment paper-covered clothes iron simultaneously placed on an ironing board. The iron occasionally also serves as a stove to boil a pot for strawberry coulis or sauces for topping up the main dishes. And the coffee machine doubles as a bain-marie or sous vide depending on what meal Jago is cooking.

The chef’s Isolation Kitchen channel on TikTok now has over 158k followers

Some of the videos attracted more than a million views and acquired Jago’s Isolation Kitchen on TikTok over 158 thousand followers and 5 million likes. Even the utterly outspoken Gordon Ramsay, a British chef who currently holds 16 Michelin stars and is quite famous for his critical opinions, acknowledged the hotel room cooking pioneer and mentioned Jago on his social media.

Turns out you don’t need a lot to produce a personal culinary channel or, um, well, to cook a meal in the most minimal conditions.

As far as conditions go, Jago would even complement his meals with a glass of wine and bring the self-made hotel room dining experience to a completely new level.

I hope no one actually does this. I would hate to go to use a hotel iron that makes my clothes stink of fish *gag*

It is not safe to walk on the carpet in your bare feet and whatever you do DO NOT LAY ON THE BEDSPREAD. And now, someone wants you to cook with appliances in those rooms that you aren't supposed to walk on the carpet in bare feet or lay on the bedspread? That is disgusting.

Yeah if you're pro chef probably you know what you are doing buuuuut...... cannot emphasize how bad this idea is for regular person to do this. Theres legend how staff (from certain asian airline) was fired over cooking on iron. hotel guests from neighboring rooms weren't happy, then hotel management weren't happy, then staff's employer (who paid for hotel stay) was not happy after receiving bill for destroyed appliances from all hotels where they did the same on regular basis.... DO NOT COOK ON IRON :)

Asians do this in their dorms, they use the water cooler to cook food the heated side where warm water is.
