A plus-sized influencer staged a protest over what she described as “blatant discrimination” against “fat travelers.”
Jaelynn Chaney, 28, accused the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport of “violating” people’s rights after she was denied wheelchair assistance.
“SeaTac violates our rights. #WheelchairAccessForAll,” screamed a sign she held up in the middle of the airport.

- The plus-size influencer claimed the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport denied her wheelchair assistance over her “body size.”
- “I’m not alone—this has happened to other fat travelers, too,” she said on social media.
- She claimed she nearly fainted the last time an airport staffer refused to push her wheelchair.

The content creator with 140.2K followers on TikTok said she was denied wheelchair assistance because of her “body size.”
“I’m not alone—this has happened to other fat travelers, too. When I spoke up, people told me it was because I could ‘injure the staff’ just by existing,” she wrote in the caption of her TikTok video. “That’s blatant discrimination.”

She went on to say that SeaTac should have a “written policy stating their discrimination outright” if they refuse to “assist fat people.”
“But instead, they lie, deny services, and leave disabled fat travelers stranded,” she added. “This is unacceptable, and I will not stay silent.”

The plus-size blogger urged others to speak up if they have had similar experiences.
“Use your voice. If you’re scared, tell me and I’ll speak up for you,” she continued. “I’ll use this platform I’m grateful to have to uplift you and amplify your voice.”
Most netizens weren’t too sympathetic about her situation.
“Why should someone risk physical injury to push you?” one social media user asked

“I don’t understand?!?! I looked at her profile, she can walk!!!” one commenter said, while another wrote, “Being fat isn’t an identity or a disability.”
“There are so many horrible things happening right now and you choose to fight for your right to be a fat lazy drain on society,” one said.
“Get yourself an electronic wheelchair and push yourself,” one suggested

“Wheelchairs are for disabled people. Not able bodied people eating themselves into the grave. I wouldn’t risk my back to push you,” another wrote.
“So you’re really expecting the average person to be able to push your entire body weight, when you can’t even walk or get yourself around due to your body weight???” asked another.

Others expressed support, with one saying, “Some of these comments bashing her is just outright awful! … Do better people!”
“Overweight people are still people and they need help too,” said another.

This isn’t the first time Jaelynn said she was denied wheelchair assistance at SeaTac.
Last year, she went viral after posting a video accusing an airport staffer of refusing to push her wheelchair.

“She started to walk away with the wheelchair while making comments about my size,” she told the audience.
“Even when I told her I really needed the chair and needed her to let me sit down in it, she blatantly ignored me and kept walking.”
“This is discrimination, nobody should be treated this way,” Jaelynn said

In her previous viral videos, Jaelynn has asked airlines to offer free extra tickets to plus-size fliers as part of her fight for “fat liberation.”
The plus-size activist clapped back at critics for comparing her body to luggage and demanding she pay extra to fly.
She also said it was “dehumanizing” to see netizens condemn her for saying airlines should give free extra tickets to plus-size fliers.

Jaelynn started a petition demanding the FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) to “protect plus-size travelers.”
The petition has more than 39,621 signatures so far and demands “accessible additional seats to customers-of-size,” a “refund for customers-of-size who purchase additional seats independently,” and more.

Over the last couple of months, there has been widespread speculation about Jaelynn’s arrest.
YouTuber Fit ‘n’ Full Fat shared a video in March, in which she claimed Jaelynn faced a total of six charges, including assault and resisting charges.
Some of the charges against Jaelynn were subsequently dropped, the YouTuber said.
Netizens had mixed reactions to Jaelynn’s latest protest in the middle of the airport

My body is not the problem, the system is? Well girl... your body is the problem, im sorry. But even more.. your mentallity is the biggest problem..
I have a lot of morbidly obese family members. Many have died from complications of obesity (diabetes, kidney failure, gangrene, etc.) and some have died very young or have had limbs amputated. And not a SINGLE ONE of my family members ever demanded to be pushed around in a wheelchair. My obese uncle uses one of those walker-things that you can sit down on when you get tired, but he also has fairly advanced Parkinson's. Despite being morbidly obese, he retains enough dignity and pride to remain as mobile as possible. This woman is obviously infantilizing herself (after a fashion) and making herself out to be far more helpless than she actually is. Interesting that she can stand and walk when she wants to (her Instagram has videos of her walking around hotels just fine and even pulling a rolling suitcase.)
Load More Replies...I am all for equal rights but i would NOT want to be the person pushing her in a wheel chair and therefor can hardly expect anyone else to do it. Do you know the kind of damage you can get by pushing an obese person in a wheelchair up a ramp? Why is she fighting for her right to remain obese when she obviously can't handle her everyday life or travel without the help of others? This all seems insane to me.
I agree. I wouldn't push her either. I don't have a lot of upper body strength and my back would be destroyed if I tried. They have health and safety rules for a reason. It's the same reason why nurses/care staff use hoists when lifting patients out of their beds.
Load More Replies...Why should someone be asked to risk their health by pushing an excess weight - human or cargo - up a ramp? Why should someone get a free seat because they can't fit in a single seat? Entitlement central.
She started a GoFundMe with a target of $15,000 so she could continue her fight for “fat liberation”. It raised $415. This woman is beyond entitled. Oh, and she was arrested recently.
Fat liberation? It’s already trying to liberate itself out her clothes 😂
Load More Replies...So timely. I am about to take a plane. I can walk but not for distances. They take me to the gate but i board by walking down the jetbridge. However, wgen i get off the plane, there is the chair . And i hate that. I weigh 200 lbs and i dont want the attendant struggling to push me up the ramp. It is embarrassing. Yes, i am embarrassed for being this heavy and need to get an exercise routine. I told my brother I am going to tell them to meet me at the top.
200 lbs is overweight; it is NOT morbidly obese like "Jae Bae" here. I can only go by the "eyeball method" (as she doesn't publicly post how much she weighs, despite being so proud of being obese) but I have a LOT of obese family members. She looks like she's definitely over 400lbs; she may be close to 500lbs. 200 is fat - I was 180lbs at my heaviest and DEFINITELY fat - but please don't feel too ashamed or embarrassed. You are NOT in the same category as this woman, and I mean that not just in the physical sense. <3
Load More Replies...My guess it's probably more dangerous sitting on a flight for a longer time with risk of blood clots than actually give your body a work out with a bit of heart beating walk.
Her again? It is unfortunate that she is morbidly obese, but it is not other people's responsibility to deal with her unusually large size. She needs to take some responsibility and make arrangements with friends or family or an aide to help her out. Also, she just has a c r a p attitude and seems to do this for clicks...
210 lb guy here. Broke my ankle on a trip, had an ER wrap on it, two bags, crutches. taking a flight from a huge, sprawling airport. Figured I'd get a wheelchair assist. They sent this tiny woman to do the job. I could not imagine being comfortable with this person pushing me when I was over twice her size. I hobble-walked. Your s****y decisions don't entitled you to other people's efforts
I've seen this woman on You Tube several times not only complaining about airports but, hotels and amusement parks. She is a "travel influencer". She wants hotel towels to be larger so plus size people can wrap themselves, sturdier and wider chaise loungers/ bar stools, larger corridors and larger elevators. In other words, total renovations for plus size travelers.
I'm athletic, 6'1" and 250 lbs. I would have trouble pushing her up the the ramp. There is no way the average person could do this, nor should they be expected to.
I am obese. I am not ashamed because of my body. My self esteem is fine and I make no apologies for my size. That being said, I am also self aware. If I need a second seat I purchase a second seat. I pay for priority boarding so I don't have to squeeze my way through and inconvenience everyone else. I support your right to be comfortable in your body no matter the size, but no person should have to make concessions to accommodate you. If you need someone to push you in a wheel chair then make arrangements. Strangers are not responsible for you.
Thank you; this is how it should be done. And ironically, your way of thinking is more likely to garner support/people wanting to assist you than ol’ mate’s attitude.
Load More Replies...Being overly obese does not qualify said person, who is able to protest but not plan ahead for a way to assist HERSELF, is a her problem. Seniors have to plan ahead because they need to have a wheelchair or personnel aware ahead of time. GO PROTEST AT McDONALDS because of course it’s someone else’s problem that you have no control over your body or appetite!!!!
"without internal restraint, appetites serve to forge chains." - Edmund Burke.
Nobody owes you a wheelchair ride when you weight 500+ lbs. They have a right to say no.
She influenced me to get my jaw wired shut. How much food does she eat in a day?
I'd like to know if she walked into the airport or if she had a wheelchair. If she walked, it's reasonable for the workers to think she should be fine, regardless of weight. If she came in a wheelchair then yes, she obviously needs the chair and they should try to accommodate.
But she can still use the chair independently. She doesn't need a slave to push her, when her arms work just fine.
Load More Replies...The thing that is annoying about this is the fact that she says she can walk but always chooses to have wheelchair assistance at airports all the time. What about the people who are genuinely disabled and need assistance, she’s making a mockery of them. Just so that she can think being fat is being disabled, incorrect because in this persons perspective it’s all about her and not the needs of genuinely disabled people
She won’t need to worry much longer, diabetes and heart failure will get her soon enough
As significantly smaller elderly woman in an equally crowded airport, while moving my terminally ill mother home to die, airport and airline employees did not push my or my mother’s wheelchairs. Who knows if she is telling the truth or just wants views.
This ”everything has to be normalized” madness has to end. No, its not normal, or healthy, to weigh 250 kgs.
As i've said on the previous article, if she didn't disclose her weight when she asked for a wheelchair i don't blame the flight attendant who expected someone with mobility issues and a person weghing like a baby elephant showed up. Breaking her back is not in the job description.
Don't forget that wheelchairs also have a weight limit, and she would actually need a bariatric chair (reinforced).
I don’t like the horrible comments directed at her physical condition but that’s because both my sisters are morbidly obese and the things people are willing to say to their faces or within their hearing are truly awful. I know that the reason they are so overweight is they developed an unhealthy relationship with food because we were all physically abused from a young age (egg donor). They comfort ate to self-sooth, but are trying really hard through therapy and working with nutritionists to get mentally healthy and lose weight. So, yeah, it’s easy to judge harshly when you don’t understand the background. This said, she’s campaigning for the wrong things. Airports should have motorized scooters, like they do in many grocery stores, so that people can be moved safely onboard without risking harm to airport/airline employees. Sure, campaign for larger seats but, just like tall people have to pay extra for more leg room, obese passengers should pay extra to have those seats. A close friend is 6’9”, he doesn’t complain about having to pay extra for a seat to accommodate his height (much, lol). But he also doesn’t face the sheer cruelty or disgust that obese people experience on a daily basis simply because unusually tall isn’t treated as shameful.
I upvoted you but want to add that the reason that she is getting pushback and criticism is because she has an entitled attitude that other people need to cater to her. She generates content for clicks and is always making a scene and then posting about it. In short, it's not her weight, it's her c r a p attitude
Load More Replies...This woman can clearly walk. Her weight probrably means she tires quickly, so she may need a wheelchair - but if she needs a wheelchair consistently, she needs to have her own, and if she can't push herself, she needs a powered chair or mobility scooter. She was wanting airport staff to push her up a "Long ramp". Think about it for a moment: she was asking someone to push significantly more than their body weight - perhaps twice or three times their body weight or even more, up a ramp. That's not easy, or safe, for a lot of people, and staff can't be asked to do it - it's likely an osha violation. If a member of staff can safely push a 150lb woman, but can't safely push a 450lb woman, that's not discrimination, it's physics. Take responsibility for your own mobility, and get a powered mobility scooter.
My sister is obese and she can get around just fine, at 70!. She also has bought two seats for travel, not wanting to bother others with her huge size. Instead of making others think of accommodating you, you should realize you must compromise to the world. No one cares, it's all on you.
I use a wheelchair because my spine is deteriorating, not because I'm choosing to be lazy. People like this give wheelchair users a bad name.
I wasn't aware the airport was responsible for wheeling my a*s around. Also, at that point, it's less of a "push" and more of a "tow"
maybe they could use one of those little tractors they use to pull the luggage carts with to help her out...
Like a side by side. Good idea. I mean, I'm large and I hate going uphill but I MAKE myself do it so I don't just give up. And I walk 5 ks. I used to run some but it's getting harder. Not sure what's up. I've actually gotten a little smaller from yoga.
Load More Replies...Lazy and FAT. Don't blame your problems on others. Airlines offer a service. They don't owe you anything & certainly shouldn't have to change things to accommodate people who consciously ate themselves into obesity.
She's not disabled, she's very overweigh. Her weight make it hard to walk up a ramp. I'm pretty sure she could handle it, though she would be slow and probably needed to take a break. But instead of trying, she demands wheelchair and the airport employee to push up someone thrice their size. Employee is not crazy enough to try it, so she gets angry and feels discriminated. Seriously, don't you have any shame? Stop harassing people and do something about yourself! And I say that as an overweight person.

I 100% believe that many cases of obesity are related to mental health struggles/imbalance and the degree of fatphobia today is disgusting but there's advocating for yourself and then there's being entitled and delusional. I just kept thinking what if the steward wasn't strong enough to push that weight and she rolled back over them. I think you should speak up for yourself in this world and yes, you should be allowed to ask for assistance, but not if it's going to harm the person you're asking. This woman in the article should've called ahead and let them know her circumstances so that the airline could put safety measures in place or something could've been planned out at her own cost.
She is too heavy for a normal sized person to push without injuring themselves and she’s not disabled. So her expectations are ridiculous.
