Everyone is born with certain characteristics, traits, and behaviors that have been passed down from generations. This is because our genes are working hard behind the scenes to create an approximate structure of who we’ll be as we grow up.
Even though we have the capability to grow and be better, certain traits are harder to escape. This is exactly what folks are opening up about as they share the best and worst genes they’ve inherited. It’s hilarious to see what people have been biologically blessed and cursed with.

A voice that was made for radio. And a face that was made for radio.
I remember the first time I heard my voice on a recording/video...I was like...noooooo lol
You hear your own voice in a different pitch when you talk. When you listen to a recording, you hear it like everybody else!

I'm 62 with abundant hair and not a speck of gray.
I have the eyesight of a garden mole.
My dad did as well. My brother and I apparently got mom's genes for the hair but I've been wearing glasses for over 20 years, lol.
Load More Replies...I'm 46 and haven't dyed my hair for more than a decade. When I was younger it was a really boring mousy brown. As I've got older it has got darker, more like chestnut brown and I don't have a single grey hair. My dad was the same. His hair didn't go grey until he got cancer and had chemo and that was when he was in his 70s.
I just turned 50 and until this year didn't have a single gray hair. And now I have quite a few sprinkled around my roots. They actually look like my highlights so you can't tell unless you get REALLY close. Personally I think it's due to my job/my boss, but it could also be that I'm just getting old. ;) A few friends my age are completely gray and totally rocking it.
Load More Replies...I have eyesight a bit better than a mole, and gorgeous golden blonde hair going a gorgeous silver.
Blessed with being smart, nerfed with absolute laziness.
100% same, like I was offered the opportunity this year to be in all advanced classes. But my lazy butt decided no because I didn’t want to do the extra work

It’s hard to imagine that something as minuscule as our genes could be controlling the way we look, our behavior, and even how our body works. We inherit a set of genes from both parents, which can then turn into any possible type of combination. This is exactly what makes each person so unique.
Genes are also behind why we may share a lot of similarities with certain family members and, at the same time, may not look like or behave like other relatives. Even though each person’s DNA is distinct, it’s important to understand the health, behavior, and lifestyles of our family members in order to protect ourselves from the possible genetic risks we may face.
Good problem-solving skills but nerfed with the ability to procrastinate until it’s an emergency.
Me too. In my case it's due to depression and anxiety.

Blessed with good looks, amazing cheekbones.
Nerfed by MS eating my brain and spinal cord.
Blessed with being a really good long distance runner,
Nerfed by becoming paralyzed from the belly button down.
I really feel this one! Blessed with having been a competitive swimmer coming 14th in the whole of the UK at 100m backstroke at age 14 ...... Nerfed by being left disabled with calipers and crutches by my violent ex ... But! I guess at least now it saves time because I'm not taking ages planning my outfits and which shoes to wear! 😄
As you might have noticed from this list, some people have been born with mild to severe genetic illnesses. These diseases are often caused when there is a mutation in the instructions of a gene. Every person has some kind of mutation in their DNA, but often, they may have no effect whatsoever.
Certain conditions can also be aggravated due to a person’s diet or lifestyle. So, it’s very important to understand one’s genetic history to try and keep such things under control. It’s rare for any family line to be completely free of genetic disorders. In fact, of the 3%-6% of newborns born with congenital problems, at least half can be attributed to their genes.
Blessed: High-Functioning Autism
Nerfed: High-Functioning Autism.
as someone who has high functioning autism i felt this in my soul
Same, plus ADHD as well... (and PTSD, but that's not really genetic, though I did get it from my mom!)
Load More Replies...Ugh, same. I'm pretty darn smart but going to the shops or anywhere else with lots of people makes me feel like I'm being violently assaulted.
Blessed with big [breasts], nerfed with no a*s.
Edit: To everyone telling me to go to the gym and giving me advice I want you to know that I am not trying to "improve" myself by getting a bigger a*s. I am very satisfied with my body. I am also well aware that an a*s can be built. I just think it's funny that I'm shaped like an airpod and I thought this would make a relatable comment.
Hopefully there's other people looking at these comments and getting the advice they were looking for though :).
My family curse is our pancake flat butts. :( My dad and brother can't even wear pants without a belt or they'll fall off. I'm also blessed with all my weight in my stomach. Which results in me looking like a swayback.
I feel this one too! I've always said - "I swear, when I was being designed? Someone pushed in my posterior which popped my boobage out!" 😄
Good looks, great body, and I look significantly younger than my 40 years thanks to my Japanese genes.
I’m so nearsighted that I look like Hans Moleman the moment I put on my glasses.
There might have been moments in your life when you’ve wondered whether the things that have happened to you were a result of your hard work or due to the talent that you were born with. According to scientists, much of what happens to us is a matter of luck, like who our parents are, when we were born, where we lived, and other factors in our environment.
We do start our lives taking a chance on our genetic lottery. Although that does have an effect on many different aspects of our lives, the choices we make as we grow up play a big role in what our future will look like. Therefore, it’s not easy to separate the effect of biology and our environment; it’s just important to do our best with what we’ve got.
When I gain weight, it goes first to my a*s, hips and thighs, they get rounder and give me an overall curvy shape. Belly mostly flat. The problem is that I am a hetero male.
Smart enough to get a PhD in a natural science, doomed to spend an absurd amount of time s******g because of ulcerative colitis.
[Blessed] with high IQ but nerfed with the attention span of a goldfish on caffeine.
If there’s one thing you should take away from this list of people’s experiences it’s that it’s essential to understand your genetic history. Knowing your family health details can help you identify risks due to shared genes and inform your healthcare provider so that they can provide you with tailored care.
Even if your genes suggest that you are at risk for a certain health condition, by understanding that, you can stay one step ahead with your diet and fitness levels. Your DNA may tell one story, but it doesn’t mean that it’s your destiny. You always have the power to reshape the narrative and create something new.
Naturally straight teeth and never had a cavity. I am incredibly tall for a woman and have scoliosis.
My mom had surgery to correct her scoliosis and now she's 2 inches taller.

ADHD. ADHD.
Blessed to have the ability to hyperfocus on and really get things done, nerfed heavily with the fact that it's only with things I find interesting, everything else will literally put me to sleep with boredom... ADHD is a m**********r
Edit: Lotta you folks been saying you wish you had got tested? What's stopping you? I didn't get diagnosed until the age of 27, it's not too late. Proper medication makes a hell of a difference in your life.
I wasn't diagnosed until we were going through the process with my son, who was in the second grade. It explained a lot.
The aha moment when you realize it wasn't just you being difficult
Load More Replies...I'm 56 and suspected that I've had ADHD my whole life. Last week I took the 4 hour test. Waiting for my test results. My insurance covered it.They no longer use the term ADD, Just ADHD.
I was diagnosed at 45. Women get diagnosed very late or not at all, men get diagnosed as children. It is so wrong.
Genes are the gift we’ve been given by our parents and our ancestors and they help create a version of who we’ll be. It’s great that we also have the power to better ourselves without being restricted by our biological codes.
If there’s one thing you should take away from the experience of all these folks it’s that our DNA and our choices work hand in hand. Even if there are certain good or bad traits we have to live with, it’s exactly what makes us so unique and our story so interesting.
We’d love to hear about the genetic blessings you’ve received and what you’ve been “nerfed” with.
I’m 7’1”- huge blessing and a huge curse. On average, people my height live 12-15 YEARS less then average size people. All the other issues I can deal with- that one is hard to overlook.
In case OP sees this. Had an elderly friend who died at 98. He was 7ft. He stopped plying tennis at 95. When he beat my 26 old ex husband into the court
Author Douglas Adams probably died relatively young of heart failure (towel in hand, happily enough) because he was so massively tall. May he rest in peace.
Great height, not great length.
Remember gentleman it’s not about the size it’s how you use it. And most people don’t know how to use it.
And, gentleman, you can always get VERY creative with (clean!) fingers, your tongue and toys and every partner WILL appreciate that, I guarantee!

This is so true, and such a shame that’s it’s a cause of embarrassment to men when most women are happier with an average size

I basically never get ill, I’ve never had to take antibiotics as an adult.
I’m annoyingly hairy though (for a woman).
I worked with a woman who was exceedingly hairy. I always wondered what it would feel like to pet her arm whenever we conversed and she had on short sleeves.
I’m considered attractive while being relatively intelligent (relative to a dog or a small woodland animal). i suffer from depression.
From now on, I too will compare myself to a dog or small woodland animal.
I too think this is perfect for intelligence scale

I went grey at 16, but now love my grey hair. I'm very tall, naturally quite densely built, even though I'm a bit on the chubby side. Square jaw. Thick eyebrows. Hairy chest, happy trail on my belly. Probably look like I could do ok in a fight. More than once, strangers have compared me to Gaston... (I'm not that muscular, but yeah, I can see where they're coming from)
I was born female.
I never understood not liking girls with muscles she can pick you up AND cuddle!? Sounds like a deal to me.
I went to their post to check, followed through to their profile, and they're trans! Hence the "born female" part. But I agree with the sentiment absolutely

Blessed with naturally thick, curly hair that hairdressers always compliment. Nerfed with the worst hay fever you can imagine. Spring isn't romantic when you're sneezing 20 times in a row and your eyes are constantly watering.
Most OTC allergy medicine quit working for me. I'm currently taking basic benadryl, 12hr Sudafed and an allergy nose spray so I can breathe. As that remedy is starting to get kinda spendy to maintain, I finally went to the allergy specialist and started allergy shots. The specialist was quite surprised at how many airborne allergens I'm currently allergic to. Hopefully in 6 months I'll start seeing improvement
I wish you get it sorted, all the best to you!
Load More Replies...The hayfever I definitely sympathise with... During the first week or so of the Pandemic/Lockdowns? I was still relatively able to walk, with a cane, but I could feel something was terribly wrong in my lower spine, I was in a LOT of pain. So that's the cursed part, hayfever and Spinal Bruising... The Blessed part? Hayfever because if you sneezed once on the street? Everyone ran away from you! Plus sneezing into my facemask? At least it was one way to make sure it stayed on my face due to the wet sneeze!!! 😄
Blessed: My family has high levels of testosterone, meaning I'm a whole lot stronger than I look.
Nerf: I weigh a lot more than I look like I do, too, for the aforementioned reason, so I also have bad ankles/knees lol.
Gotta keep an eye out for prostate cancer in the long run too (if they're male).
The second one applies to me too. I used to win prizes at fairs where they would try to guess your weight. No one ever even got close. I'd never do that as an adult though - too embarrassing.
Blessed with clear, soft, none textured skin (never once had acne)
Nerfed - but it scars very easily and takes years to heal/fade if It gets damaged (stretch mark prone).
Man I’ve got both acne and skin prone to mark i must be double cursed.
Blessed with skin that rarely sees a pimple, thanks to all the excema head to toe.
Gifted with a beautiful face and head of hair.
Nerfed with two addict parents who have very present mental illness.
Life’s a roller coaster.
Those are both foods, though. At least it’s not comparing apples to a suspension bridge.

Genetically blessed with a super active immune system. I recover from things really fast and really well. Wounds and diseases.
Nerfed with a super active immune system- it goes into overdrive at the touch of a button. I get inflammation from lots of things and it makes me sick for days or weeks.
This post contradicts itself, at least how I have interpreted it. First, they said they recover quickly from illnesses, but then their overactive immune system also makes them sick for days or weeks.
Read, Lupus or another autoimmune disease.

Blessed: never had a cavity, and it isnt my oral hygiene preventing it
Nerfed: what I like in height I make up for in nose size.
Blessed with two sets of genitals (one male, one female), cursed with a society that cannot accept that such a thing could even exist and that took very disturbing steps to conceal it before I was even able to understand (let alone give) consent.
I met a girl/boy similar to yourself, it was years ago at University. I put "girl/boy" because they would sometimes switch between the two as in sometimes they'd dress more "feminine" such as skirts, dresses for example, sometimes more "neutral", as in just jeans and a t-shirt. One thing I loved about them was they'd say to me, "I'm feeling very masculine lumberjack today!" when they'd wear jeans and a lumberjack checked shirt 🙂

Yep. I beat one addiction only to find I'm replacing it with another.
Load More Replies...Beautiful eyes but needed surgery on them because I was so badly cross eyed I could've passed as a chameleon
ive been "blessed" with hypermobility, which means that i am very flexible. the cursed part is that i dont know how normal peoples joints work, so when i try to hide it, i end up accidentally doing a pose that normal people cant do (ex: bending my arm a bit too far back and people think that its broken)
Blessed: Artistic skills Nerfed: Lack of creativity and marketing skills.
Very robust immune system and good skin - I look less than half my actual age. Got autism from my dad's side of the family, generational trauma and premature greying from my mum's.
Blessed with long silky hair, cursed with blindness in one eye and my hair blocking the other.
