After a while a project can get boring and then you lose interest. If there is no deadline on them, then why not do them in your own time. Example, supposing i have multi skills in certain work. My job is a painter and decorator if i get fed up with doing this job i find something else like carpenter, brick layer.... Its good to have a change.

NO!!!! Don't use nicotine patches, gums, sprays! Don't use nicotine stuff, it will keep you addicted! Try some Champix or Defumoxan, for example: they are cutting the link between nicotine ingestion and pleasure and it will be easier for you to quit.

It helps when the subject interests you. That is the only way I am getting it done. I know uninteresting classes are necessary for your degree but maybe start with the ones you like. Then after it's a habit, work on the boring ones.

I noticed that you comment a lot more on the “Ask” articles or when someone seems down. I think it’s very sweet of you to make that time, or to direct them to other resources. You are a lot more patient and considerate, and it’s very refreshing because I’ve come across other types of comments. The latter is even worse to stomach because they kick people when they’re already down.

It might sound a bit up in the air. But research has shown that it actually helps to seek for things you are grateful for. If you make it a habit by keeping a gratitude journal and challenging yourself to write down 3 things everyday, after a while you will start paying more attention throughout the day to the good stuff. Even on hard days you will find there are things, a certain family member, or friend, seeing something beautiful on your walk home, something you did for someone that made you feel good, having a nice meal,... Anyways, good luck to you, it is a life changer if you look at things more positively.

Be assured that your teachers want to see you succeed, and asking questions is a good way to do that. If you can’t speak up in class, ask them afterwards when the other students are filing out.

Think about this- people (some) WANT to help. Give people the gift/opportunity to help. What’s the absolute worst thing that could happen? They say no. So what? If you’re anxious about that possibility (social anxiety, anyone?), ask someone you KNOW can’t (or won’t) help. Kind of a controlled rejection. What if you ask them if they or someone they know can help? Or just ask for ideas on where to go for help... Good luck!

Speaking as almost 60 here; Stupid people stay stupid all their lives, age does guarantee wisdom. Sometimes a child can speak more wisely than anyone. As long as your facts are NOT coming from Qanon or the Bible or the Koran, stick to your guns. Otherwise STFU. Sometimes it takes a decade or two to learn your parents/elder WERE actually right. "Because I said so" is sometimes just code for "I'm too tired to deal right now" HTH

I used to do that & I got paronychia, which is where your nail bed gets infected. I recommend you stop because it SUCKED. My finger was constantly hurting & it's all green/purple/red & it's super bloody & full of pus. It's gross. Also, usually there isn't a spot where the pus can come out (there was for me idk why) and if there isn't, they have to lance it (poke a small hole in it with a needle). It's not fun. If you want to see some visuals just look up "paronychia". *DISCLAIMER* you probably don't want to look it up because it's gross, but it's there just in case *DISCLAIMER*

Why don’t you use a special massage or coconut oil and give yourself hand massages focusing on the cuticle. Push it back gently and condition with the oil, over time it grows back slower and smoother...less skin to latch on. *if it’s anxiety or too much energy, I recommend you try dancing or shadow boxing. You can get infections from biting your cuticles. The germs from your mouth, the germs already on your hand, or germs from another surface can invade the body through openings in the skin.

You should create a program/ charity where you rescue birds in need, then release them after they get the care they need in a local park.

Cut it short and smooth it out with an emery or glass file. Eventually you’ll go awhile without biting, and could then let it grow.

That’s a good idea but we tried the nail polish that tastes bad and I got used to it. Also, I do it if I am bored or stressed. I think it’s better because of corona, I try not to touch my face as much. But, pence they are short, I will bite them even shorter

Some days I forget to eat, and the longer I go irregularly or eating too little... I feel weaker and can’t think straight. I just make sure there are snacks around and move to stimulate my appetite. ***if you mean pulling at the cuticle and ripping the nails, you could replace that with hand massages. If you’re painting and decorating it, then it could be a creative hobby.

Bitting my nails. I've done it my whole life. It's gotten bad enough that I have minor nerve damage in my fingertips. They are just little nubs (some less than a millimeter). They bleed and swell and get infected easily. I really hate my hands because of it and have tried just about every possible solution on the internet. Nothing works.

I don't know - if I have no idea what I'm suggesting even makes sense. But it takes about 3 weeks to break a habit from what I've read. Can you wear gloves for 3 weeks? Especially with Covid, I don't even think people would look at you weird.

I was a nail biter my whole life (but never below the quick...too gross and too painful), and then when I left home, I just stopped. However, I don’t let them get too long because they just get in the way, and instead of using clippers, I just bite them down to the perfect size...I’m now really good at biting AND not biting them. Ta Da!

Hey Saesha, you seem to be doing great. Maybe leave the smoking for a later stage, so you can put your energy in one thing. It helps if you don't t ask too much of yourself. Quitting any kind of habit asks a lot of brainpower. Don't exhaust yourself! Take the time out to be proud of yourself, that you are here and fighting, and that this time, you didn't do it. Also, for some people it helps to have a standard alternative behaviour, like shooting rubber bands, going for a run or drawing on yourself, After a while you make new roads in your head, making the new behaviour more likely. Every repetition, every good day counts, in making it the road more travelled. You got this, I believe in you!

Here's my view on this as someone who has depression and as someone who is a medical professional as well as a military veteran: dark humor is a coping mechanism (and a good one too) because it takes what could be a traumatic experience and rewires the mind into thinking of it as an accessory event and not as big of a deal as without it. That's why medical staff, first responders, military servicemembers, etc. all seem to have a dark sense of humor. It helps us continue on when other people might have a serious breakdown. I will say that you do need the right audience though.

Grinding my teeth. I seem to do it whenever I play my cello, whenever I'm in class, just a lot. My jaw actaully is sore by the end of the day. Any tips?

gum, and possibly a retainer that blocks your teeth from touching.

fidgeting and zoning out. I end up getting scratches on my legs/arms from itching. it feels like I can't stop most of the time. I also start staring into space and I need people to repeat themselves.

I lick my lips... it makes then reaallllyyyy chapped so I pick at it. I just always put lip balm on... you can choose a scar cream or intensive repair lip balm/ chapstick

Not exactly a habit, but im trying to be cleaner. i just cleaned my room, office and bathroom, and im trying to make a habit where i sub-consciously do things like pick up shoes and trash on the floor. Good habit, but it gets tiring when you've vacuumed your office for the fourth day in a row :D

I've picked up this habit, as well. In time, it's no longer tiring and for me, it helps keep my mind "quiet".

Yes, i have this too!! I mean, i know that the negative thoughts come mostly because i'm tired, but sometimes, i just become so overwhelmed by them that i can't see that very well. Some days ago though, i watched this video, and it helped me a lot, so maybe it can help you too: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ks-_Mh1QhMc. I tried standing in a powerful pose for 2 minutes when i was tired (like hands on your hips, feet firm on the ground, upright posture) and it really helped my mind to 'reset' (watch the video for more details). Also, talking to yourself like you would talk to a friend (if your negative emotions are directed to yourself, and not to others, of course). If you say it enough to yourself: i'm enough, i can do this, i'm worthy to be loved, making mistakes is okay.. then you will believe it eventually. I hope this helped you a bit, and i wish you the best!

unhealthy eating habits. I fuel my body with low calorie energy drink throughout the day and only eat on real meal when I'm home from work.

You can try some grapes, if you like it. Water based foods fill you up more so you do not want to eat for the rest of the day.

I need to stop biting my nails because I sometimes bite them to low and it looks bad, I also need to stop cleaning the inside of my nails for no reason just because I think their dirty

I clean them so much, but hey, it's good for my nails, cuz now they look spotless! Can't say the same for the length of my nails tho.

Hydrocortisone as soon as possible after being bit, helps stop the itch. I am a major mosquito magnet.

Make a paste of baking soda (NOT baking powder) and water and put it on the bite. You only need to resist for a minute or so and then the baking soda takes the itchiness away.

Chocolate at least has some medicinal aspects to it, but the crisps are just straight-up bad, bad, bad.

Maybe try therapy? You want to nip this in the bud before you start to lose jobs, relationships, etc. It's not something that you can let ruin your life. There are ways to overcome this. Good luck, I really wish you the best.

Diet soda. Right now I’m replacing with Crystal lite to wean off, but slowly reducing the amount of mix I put in my water. Miss the caffeine but I hate coffee, and frankly don’t really need the caffeine anyway so learning to listen to my body and get more sleep if I’m tired.
