Has anyone here ever heard something that sounds like a good idea, but when you actually follow through with it, turns out it's not?

The Imperial System of Measurement...Metric is sooo much simpler.
I live in the UK and use both systems. I don't see the problem with imperial. We travel in miles, have our beer in pints (milk too), height in feet and inches, weight in stones and pounds. We only stopped selling foodstuffs in pounds and ounces because the EU said it was illegal to. I have to wonder when someone is going to decimalise time just to make it easier for people.
ikr? the only hard part is the units names. like oh ik a foot has twelve inches, but do i know how many units are in a millimeter? I do not.
B-b-b-but... Murcia.... your system is so hard, it’s based on 10s...
I am 63 ...I suppose I could say I was of " a certain age ".
Load More Replies...Making time for yourself to do nothing sounds like a good idea, but... You just get depressed, bored, and end up questioning your existence.
If you need to talk, or anyone else, comment here and we can hang out on Discord. Or exchange emails. Play games together or just rant about things we like. We can be alone without feeling lonely.
I worked my a$$ off to retire at 50. All of my friends still work, I'm single with no kids and with all mod that work grind, I found no time to develop hobbies. Yes, I volunteer, but am sooo bored and lonely.
Social media in general. It has become such a negative thing, a convenient way for some people to "troll" others, and too many people seem to live their entire lives online thru social media. It's insane!
All the effort I did to study, be a good kid and work for free to get experience. I was raised to believe that hard work led you to have a decent life. Such a lie.
Yup. They lied through their teeth about that one. Hard work just gets you tired.
And unapreciated or bullied or not rehired. Life sucks.
Load More Replies...It's not a lie at all actually, you not only have to work hard but you have to make the right decisions and accept the right opportunities. Sometimes it can be a gamble.
I am glad that you feel that way
Load More Replies...Depends upon circumstances and luck, I think. Generally, self-sacrifice pays more dividends than living for the moment. Grasshoppers turn to ants for help when there is disaster, not the other way around.
Not in my experience but i am glad that others see it that way

binging- yeah it's great, but when you start to binge next thing you know it's the night!! and the next day you exhausted
and then your sad when youve finished a series. and i never remember anything that happened when i binge
see another reason!!!
Load More Replies...Let’s start a family! (without doing any of the needed family planning, career planning, financial planning or life planning first.) That will turn good intentions into a very bad idea.
Rushing into adulthood just so I could make my own decisions. Now I'm also responsible for my food, my rent, my vacations, my taxes...
at first when I read this I thought you said "you get vaccinations?" Wow I hate dyslexia
Load More Replies...My 18 (and a half lol) year old son is slowly starting to realize this very thing. He needs to buy a car. He has a loan amount from his bank that will give him a decent car. He is looking for cars that are almost the loan amount without thinking about tax, registration, etc. So instead he figures that Mom and Dad will foot the down payment for him. Never mind the fact that he has been an utter ass to me because he lives at home and I expect him to do chores and keep his room clean. He has been mouthy and a horrible person but figures that he is 18 and I have no say over anything in his life anymore. Imagine his surprise when I told him that he couldn't have his cake and eat it too! No down payment for him! He wanted to be an adult so bad, well now he is and he is not loving it anymore.
Getting a tattoo without considering the consequences. Yes, there are people (like me) who love all their ink. And then there are those who regret the spontaneous decision they had made years ago. Same with piercings. Not all holes will close up as "advertised".
In class my forensic teacher told about pricing of tattoo basically the needle for tattoo making cost about 2k ₹ and a lot of places do tattoos according to size like if it's small for 1000 ₹ so that clearly means that they don't change the needle so even it's a spontaneous decision always always check the price and see if needle is changed never go cheap with these things and don't get them at shady place
I posted this because I still have remnants of a side labret and Monroe where the inner holes closed, outer are not, so I literally have two tiny holes in my face. My eyebrow piercing never closed up, either, so I can still stick a needle through it to clean it. I had them for about 6 years. Yes, surgery can help with that, but I like them as a reminder of how small things can have permanent consequences. My tongue piercing though, that one closed up after 2 weeks!
School over Zoom.
Online school was a lazy excuse to help slow COVID. It should have been considered essential and recived Gov. funding to help accomadate students. Instead it caused Suicides, Depression, Bad grades, Procrastination and a massive lack of motiviation.
Redecorating your house/bedroom on your own. Although it's supposed to be cheaper and you have full control over it, It's very time-consuming, difficult, and exhausting.
Let’s go to after-school martial arts classes! Every day I went in, exercised til I was tired and sore, and then played dodgeball with other kids. In addition, one of the instructors had extreme anger issues and would get upset whenever a FIRST TO THIRD GRADER didn’t meet her expectations and one of my best friends got TAPED TO A CHAIR!
downloading twitter a few years ago i downloaded twitter it banishes your braincells and is full of idiots. i literallly am only on there to talk to friends and tweet random shiz
i thought playing soccer would be fun... i got a soccer ball to the face... NEVER AGAIN
Me with handball..... and i'm from Danmark we're world champions 🙈. It's not my sport 😂😂😂
mixing chemicals. Not my story, but my dad's. He was in the coast guard, and they were docked for a few weeks. He and his buddies decided to hang out with the HazMat (hazardous Materials) crew and ended up making a small explosion. the explosion turned into a fire. Every time my dad tells this story, he always says that he doesn't think that the grass has grown in that spot since then, and it's been at least 18 years since that happened.
Half the things I did in high school... especially the ones that started out with someone saying "You know what would be fun..."
Listening to new music. Sounds great but I usually end up with a lot of really weird stuff and in a bad mood because I didn't curate it myself. It's a sometimes food.
The internet.
SCHOOL
One day school will be over and you may long for the days you spent studying for tests instead of worrying about paying bills and blending into society. May. Perhaps you will be lucky.
Not really. Paying bills sucks but school isnt fun either. You often get bullied, teachers are often asses and you have no free time. You are 8h at school and then you need to study and do homework. There is nothing more awesome to come home after work and be able to relax
Load More Replies...I remember this one time my one of my techers had grabbed me by my arm and pulled me out of the classroom during snack time because i was laughing too loud. My mom would have sued the school and made them get rid of that teacher. And that same teacher suspended me for yelling at her to not punish the WHOLE CLASS for something that I did. Also this was in 3rd grade.
Contemplating life, you know it sounds like a good idea, but it just makes you cry.
Cry a little, breathe a little, cry a little more if you still need to.
Changing Hair color in front of Muggles. Oh crap most of you guys are probably Muggles. Um, Obliviate! *Hopes typing it will still work.
'Anon' confessions/posts on various social websites. What should have been a way to get things off your chest and help others feel less alone (if they are going through something similar) just brought out the bullies who like to hide behind their keyboard.
life
Trickle-down economics.
People bulk buying toilet paper and perishable foods. Now the foods gone off and they can’t sell the toilet paper since it’s been restocked
Cars! Yes, they are very helpful and help you with tons of stuff, but they pollute the air. Even though there is now electric cars, people are still continuing to use gas powered cars. Poor Earth. :(
You wouldn’t be saying that if you lived in a very rural area with no public transport.
But the majority of people live in suburban areas or cities, yet it's normal for adults to each have their own car.
Load More Replies...Have you done any research into electric cars, or 'just know' gas engines are bad and electric are good. What are the materials to make a battery? (one material is cobalt, found by mining) How long do batteries last? (10-20 years) Is there recycling facilities set up to deal with old batteries? And unless you have cash to drop on a Tesla, it is hard to drive between city is large countries. Going new does not mean better, why not thing about reusing first, if that means finding a used gas vehicle.
okay buddy enjoy getting s**t done in a horse and buggy. I mean seriously we have achived modern life with the help of cars.
going to cruise ship and try a floor drop slide. a fiber glass plate supports you and then it flips down on a hinge
just life in general (especially if your parents don't let you have any privacy)
Getting Kittens (from a rescue, of course). Be willing to sacrifice countless blinds, curtains, upholstery and various household objects.
Eventually. I think I'd rescue an adult next time ;P
Load More Replies...My late kitty destroyed all the leather furniture whilst ignoring the cat scratching post and fish we got her. Yet I would not trade those years for anything. She was a wonderful little panther. Now my current adopted panther decided that blinds are a menace and all plants must die. Still wouldn´t change that for the world.
Well, i don't really care about my belongings, as my house is full of cats, snakes, and lizards.
Depends. My dad once took in a feral cat (he's a cat person, like seriously that cat became essentially a normal -but still outdoor- cat and lived in the garage) we named Runt, and he was the sweetest kitty ever after a couple of months. I still wonder how my dad managed to tame a feral cat lol.
Letting a friend ‘stay for a few days’. They end up staying for quite some some time/ finish your food, hoard the tv remote, you have to start wearing clothes around them now. Bye bye privacy. When you can’t find something, you worry that they took it. Or you worry about worrying if they took it. Save yourself the hassle in the first place.
Quarentine: "Oh look, more video games!" 1 year later... "God, please let me die in a freak accident"
It is a good idea though. Social distancing and self isolation is a way to keep others, and yourself, safe. It sucks that people are getting bored and their life has taken a turn, but it's necessary at the moment.
I didnt mean it that way, I meant it in the idea that everybody thought it would be sunshine and roses mentally, but that didnt happen

Capitalism
To quote H. L. Mencken, "Communism, like any other revealed religion, is largely made up of prophesies." I think it's also true of capitalism, perhaps (and only perhaps) to a somewhat lesser extent. In my book, the greatest weakness of capitalism is that EVERYTHING ultimately becomes a commodity whether they should be or not - basic education, health care, and preparations for opportunity are telling examples.
Socialism
As I heard recently concerning the consequences of Texas's fiercely capitalist-driven power management plans, "Yes, capitalism does a lot of great things, but every so often, socialism has to come in and save capitalism's a$$." (partake what irony you wish with the spelling of that last word)
neither works, but I think socialism is the best option.
Letting everyone vote.(I don't mean this in like certain ages/race/gender I mean it in as we should prob have a test that lets you vote, buy guns.)
Tests before voting would have to be carefully constructed, and I doubt there will EVER be agreement on the right questions or answers. However, I would support a requirement for those aspiring to public office be required to pass the citizenship test. As for guns, purchasers should be demonstrate competency in handling the weapon and gun safety.
not a test to vote! those can affect minorities, and have a really racist history in the us.
White Castle. I love those little burgers but it never fails. Eat there and then the rest of the day it’s all you can taste.
Invading Poland?
In some ways, medicine because it’s killing people and caused all these drug addicts.
Cell Phones. Most definitely cell phones. Ages 11 through 35 have trouble having conversations now. Some are afraid to talk directly to people. They HAVE to text it. Their postures are all bent over and Brain Cells? Who knows.
