Black NFL Player Tweets About An Emotional Interaction With A White Stranger He Had Recently
These days, the world needs more love and support for each other than ever. And this beautiful encounter between the NFL player Zay Jones and an elderly white woman is proof we’re all going to be okay.
Over the past weekend, Jones was approached by a stranger at a local store. With tears in her eyes, she told him: “I’m from Minneapolis and I just want you to know ‘you matter to me.'” Deeply moved by the kind words, Jones felt compelled to share the precious encounter on Twitter and it soon went viral. The tweet was liked 825.3K times, but we suspect that many more hearts were touched.
“Be the light. Love others,” said Jones’ other tweet, giving us inspiration for days to come.

Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Zay Jones tweeted the story on Saturday. The former Buffalo Bills early-round pick was in a Home Goods store in the Las Vegas area where he ran into a white elderly lady.
This comes just days after George Floyd, an African American man, was murdered by a now-former Minneapolis Police Department officer in the Twin Cities. The incident initiated nationwide demonstrations that were largely peaceful with few exceptions of clashes between protesters and police officers.
The 46-year-old black security guard Floyd died after his neck was pinned under a white police officer’s knee for nine minutes. The officer has been charged with third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter.
Many more people were moved by Jones’ tweets

As a black person, I just want to say that I know that most white people are not like this police officer and I say thank you for that. Some people don't want the races to get along and those people just need to go away.
You are so right. Because if we stopped focusing on racial divides; we may start focusing on those in power, and the systems created to keep them in power.
Load More Replies...8+ minutes is a very long time. Actually, maybe someone should promote a media blackout for a certain hour, and everyone just play dead air for that amount of time. Just to let the realization of how brutal the murder was really sink in.
NIckolodeon did just that, and of course some are bleating 'what about the children!!', like they haven't got the balls to explain things to their kids.
Load More Replies...I would be so weirded out if someone did that to me. You don't even know me. You think because I'm black, I'm a good person? No, just act normal and treat me like any other person, no matter their color, gender or sexuality.
I probably wouldn't say something like that, even though I feel that way, because it's so awkward. And like @Demi Zwaan says, you don't know each other. But it was still a nice gesture.
Load More Replies...I promise you from the bottom of my heart that MOST white people DO NOT hate black people!
I've had many discussions about the BLM movement. Most of them say "Yeah, but white lives matter too, Asian lives matter too." etc. They obviously don't get BLM does not mean ONLY black lives matter. I fully support the battle against racism. I fully support the peaceful protests. And I just hope one day there's no more talking about race, or culture, religion, but just life or lives in peace.
I'm an outsider, there're almost no black people in my country, and to me the concept of dividing people into blacks, whites, men, women, etc. AND treating them differently because of it looks so wrong. It's like every time you do this you reaffirm this difference. But we're ALL humans, and it's the only thing that matters. To me at least. I just wish more people could see beyond the looks.
I am a white woman from Canada, and Just about all of us love everyone, there's a few bad apples in every barrel unfortunately. Love from Canada to all!
ughhhh i'm sure the person who wants the looting and stuff by "antifa" to stop has been piled on on twitter by now but the looting is not antifa. antifa is a shorted form of anti-fascist, and it isn't any one dedicated group, it's multiple groups with a common interest, who practice direct action (which includes peaceful protesting) to fight fascism. the looting is being done by white supremacists coming in from out of state to start trouble. BLM and antifa groups self-police and do not actively cause harm by destroying property or looting, to my knowledge. there's a lot of misinformation and straight-up lies spread by media and the government about antifa, BLM, and other groups.
An old white woman thought a black man needed her approval/acceptance? Interesting.
killing white mans dog isn't going to get George Floyd back! Stop killing dogs
In this case, it is relevant. If you read American news from the past week or so, you'll get some context related to racism. There are other cases where it absolutely irrelevant -- some white people will mention a non-white person's race when it has no bearing on the story they are telling.
