Back in the day, neighbors had to communicate by knocking on each other's doors or chatting over the fence. Nowadays, we have "NextDoor." Globally, the platform has around 100 million users, and in the UK, one in four households says they're on "NextDoor."
Every neighborhood probably has its weirdo, and when there's a platform for them to voice their complaints, you can rest assured there's going to be some top-tier comedy. Luckily, for the rest of us, an online community collects these types of posts and lets all of us "NextDoor" outsiders see the madness that is neighbor relations. Forget WhatsApp or Facebook groups if you want to keep in touch with your neighbors and stay on top of the neighborhood goss. "NextDoor" is the next big thing for all the Flanderses out there who can't wait to hit their neighbors with an "Okily dokily!", some petty complaints, or a suspiciously prejudiced hot take.
In the U.S., 13% of all adults use "NextDoor," which is about 220,000 neighborhoods all across America. In 2024, researchers from New York University and the University of Michigan studied "NextDoor" users and compiled a comprehensive portrait of "NextDoor" communities.
They found that "NextDoor" users are more often those who live in sparsely populated areas. These residents are also more likely to be white, wealthy, older, and more educated.

But what do people on "NextDoor" actually talk about? It's not all nonsense and ridiculousness like what you see on this list. The researchers from the 2024 study found that there are three main topics that people usually post about on "NextDoor":
- Posts offering or seeking services or goods,
- Posts about perceived suspicious persons,
- Lost pets,
- Transportation issues,
- Events,
- And pleasantries, such as wishing happy holidays or celebrating the current weather.
Posts about supposedly suspicious people are most likely to get the most engagement, and most of us can imagine why. They account for only 6% of all posts on "NextDoor," but are the most worrying because they might encourage radicalized community surveillance.

Yeah... that ain't passing code. If people would bother to read and follow code, they could accomplish a lot: I changed out my electrical service, re-wired my house, and ran new plumbing just by following the rules. They obviously didn't put in the correct footings - the building inspector would have stopped it before it became this financial disaster.

And that’s something I don’t understand. If they’re making a good steady profit for a number of years that maybe doesn’t go up but definitely does not go down, then what TF are they b******g about? Yes, I understand about keeping up with competitors in the industry, and greed, and the myth of perpetual growth. But the reality is that your company is going to grow and level off. It may have a few plateaus while growing, but the time will come when it hits cruising speed where profits are good but the expectation of more upward growth is just unrealistic. As long as profits remain steady and don’t go down, and you don’t get overly ambitious and overextend yourself and the company, why can’t you be satisfied with that? If profits start to dip, do an assessment and make the necessary corrections to keep them from dipping again—-but try to do it with the least amount of effect on your employees’ lives. Warn them if there’s going to be some effect, but try to keep it at a minimum. Yeah, that’s not what they’re teaching the MBAs coming out of business school, but maybe they should revamp their curriculum and start teaching a more human way of doing business and giving your business some semblance of longevity, along with not just paying your employees well, but valuing and recognizing them and their experience and ideas and hard work, so they remain loyal and happily work for you until they retire. It’s amazing how something as simple as the boss giving you a pat on the back for a job well done can do.

What is "NextDoor" doing about this? They have a kindness reminder feature that spots offensive language and encourages people to edit before they post. The app can also detect potentially inflammatory content. Users themselves can also report racism, misinformation, or problematic neighbor profiles to the Neighborhood Operations team.

The parvo vaccine is a core puppy vaccine. Usually starts at 6 weeks with a few boosters, then every few years through life. The same is true for distemper. Although all you can do is support pups too young to be vaccinated, dogs shouldn't be contracting these diseases. Animal shelters, even in rural NM and other impoverished areas provide these for free if you can't afford them. This antivax BS is bringing back diseases that were all but eradicated.

As the owner of a dog who survived distemper (and had a puppy die to parvo back in the 90s) this INFURIATES me. Colloidal silver MIGHT have SOME antibacterial properties when used on a wound, but parvo is a VIRUS. Colloidal silver will not "cure" a virus. Parvo and distemper are both incredibly deadly diseases that do NOT have "cures" or even standardized treatments - you have to keep the animal stabilized, treat the symptoms, and just hope. Many puppies die of parvo and distemper even if they are in treatment at a vet's with IV fluids/etc. You know how to "cure" parvo and distemper? VACCINATE YOUR DOGS before they get sick.

At least she admits what the problem is, "...weird for parents..." The kids are curious and should be taught about things, like what brought them into existence. I had this experience at a zoo: Kangaroos started petting each other so I knew what was coming and as soon as they started mating a bunch of other parents whisked their kids away in a a complete panic (this was in TX if that matters, haha). I didn't react at all (WTF you at a zoo for if you don't want to see them doing animal stuff?) and my kids asked what they were doing so I said, "They're making baby kangaroos." and then we moved on to something else. The kids survived the experience unphased. 🤣

To be fair it would seem bit weird to see people meet up in the park to breed their dogs, but it also seems a safe place to do it unless you want to invite strangers to your house. And the owners were helping to keep an eye on them both to make sure she was okay, instead of the male dog just mounting the female one. I knew a couple that bred their female dog and they said if she wasn’t interested in the male then they wouldn’t proceed. They seem like responsible owners.

Why Is This Guy Blocking My Driveway?
I watched the video and read the comments, he is talking about the car legally parked across the street from his driveway. The car apparently belongs to one of the 2 houses across the street.
Some other boomers asked why that car couldn't use their driveway and they were being rude and maybe OOP should "accidentally" back into it or slash the tires.
Most of the comments were making fun of the guy and telling him it's legal.
Just to note, I think I know this street and it's super wide, like 3 cars could easily drive side by side down it.

Cameras like this distort perspective and distance hugely. Look at the curvature of the porch rail at the top of the image, and the vehicle on the right of the image. It looks like the vehicle is in the middle of the street, but I imagine it's actually parked by the kerb on the near side of the street.

I admit I get pissed off seeing people cheating the system by slapping service dog on their pooches in order to take them places. These are not trained to behave the appropriate way in public - including being non reactive to people and other animals. Leave it for those that really need, and have trained, suitably certified service dogs.

To add, we are in a state where it is illegal to advertise one price in the window but charge the customer a different price.

Jaya, When you’re walking about 13 miles a day, no truck, 1200 deliveries to be made in about 6 hours, you take shortcuts. If I was told not to walk on grass, or if there was a sign, I wouldn’t. But most people didn’t care. Since I walked on their grass for years and no trampling occurred I find it doubtful any damage would occur.

We hadn’t set a time, she just showed up and proceeded to tell me she needs it ASAP. The worst part was the actual hand off. She’s blasting music in her car and I can’t hear her and she won’t turn it down. Then she turns it down and tells me to put it in her backseat (she stays in the car) telling me to hurry up. Then she says “shut the door! Unless OP was aggressive then they were right here. If ALDI made the mistake last week then they should have said, “the price has increased but we forgot to change the label. Have 20 cents off.” Then gone and put the correct price on the shelf. Maybe the manager was tired about people complaining about eggs shortages and OP actually had eggs and was still complaining. Maybe they reached a breaking point over eggs.
