Guy Says That Native Americans Would Be ‘Starving To Death’ If They Weren’t Colonized, Regrets It Immediately
Genocide of any sort is an extremely sensitive topic that some even consider taboo and avoid touching the subject altogether. However, one should never turn a blind eye to the atrocities of the past with an excuse that what happened years ago should be left “where it belongs” – in the dusty pages of history. Adopting such an attitude poses a risk of repeating the same mistakes our ancestors did.
Recently someone shared their opinion on a Reddit thread, expressing their sympathy towards genocide of the indigenous people, implying that the technology of the modern days justifies the deaths of millions. Another person was having none of it and replied with a strong message which sparked a huge debate between other users. Share on FacebookI don't care if I wouldn't be able to go on Bored Panda, or if I wouldn't have an iPhone X. I would rather have all those millions and billions of lives back. That user needs to be hit on his head and screamed at.
Look..this is the way it happened. The Spanish and Portuguese showed up on South American shores. The Mayans were already in rapid decline from starvation and the Aztecs dropped their guard because they thought Cortes was one of the Gods come back to earth. Native American indians were in high population (around 112 million) but were decimated by disease when small pox laden blankets were given to the native populations causing numerous outbreaks between the early 1500's to early 1700's. And it was all planned by the settlers that sought to reduce resistance when it was learned what plentiful resources America provided. After that, Europeans used the Bible to justify slaughtering the majority of the rest by rewording a passage to mean 'A man is not truly a man unless he takes God into his heart.' The colonist took this to mean that unless Native Americans converted to Christianity, they were animals and, therefore, could be slaughtered. Our whole country was founded on murder.
I read about the small pox laden blankets before - shocking. We have done, and still do, some truly horrific things to our fellow humans.
Load More Replies...Struggling to read this, it's so painful. What happened is a disgrace, more than a disgrace. OK, nothing at all can put it right now, but at least acknowledge the theft, rape of lands and peoples and whole cultures. I am English. I am ashamed and I wasn't even born then. This can never be corrected, it's too late. I am, however, very shocked at the ignorance of how America is what it is now. Similar in Canada and Australia. Indigenous people denigrated when they really should be the rulers. They were there first. It's their land. I just wish the thieves were made to give it back. Not a chance I know. Am leaving Panda for today. Take care all.
