Bored Panda got in touch with the netizen who created the “Men and Females” group and they were kind enough to answer some of our questions. First and foremost, we wanted to hear the backstory of the page.
“I started this sub because I had been noticing for years that people would use men and females in the same sentence, and often it was coming from a sexist perspective. "Female" was used to belittle women the poster didn't respect, but because it was a normal word and not a slur no one could say anything about it. This sub started out as just a way for me to screenshot when I found examples while browsing the internet, I never thought the sub would grow to over 73k members.”

It is completely fine to not be sexually attracted to your partner in this situation, but everything else that he says is absolutely horrible. He lacks all sorts of empathy, and has a really weird and disgusting mindset. He should get therapy and work on that, and should also get evaluated by a psychologist, it sounds like he might have some psychological disorder that gets in his way. But not feeling sexually attracted to your partner after they had cancer, is quite normal. It doesn't have to be about whether your partner looks less attractive, it can be that seeing their body (subconciously) reminds you of all the pain and fear you felt when they were ill, or (subconciously) reminds you of how vulnerable we all are and that your partner or you yourself could die anytime, which of course kills any sexual feeling. Therapy can help with that really well. Your partner having a potentially deadly disease, is traumatic. Healing that trauma, can get you feeling sexually attracted again.

Apparently a lot of men leave their partner when they have cancer, i remember finding out about this when my bf's sister had terminal cancer, The statistics are shocking; Around 2-3% of women break up with their partner after a cancer diagnosis compared to around 20% of men when it's the woman who's sick! Also the longer they've been together before the diagnosis the more likely he is to leave her!

My college roommate's ex acted thusly when she was fighting ovarian cancer. Not only was he secretly planning to abandon her, and avoiding her near vicinity at all costs, but at a dr appt, told her to leave the room because HE wanted to talk with her doctor alone. Dr said they wouldn't do that, so he just asked bluntly if he "could catch her illness".

I went through a period of significant illness (I'm now healthy again and doing well) and while my husband stayed by side and there was no question about that - it was horrifying the number of people who expected him to leave me. They were very ready to understand and support it. In my case it was usually women age 60+ who seemed to think it would be a very normal thing to do.

That is awful. I hope the mother and daughter is doing better and living a happy life. Whether he is still in their life or not, I hope he really changes his ways. Marriage is for better or worse, through sickness and health. Its sad that some relationships don't commit to those vows when things like that happens. To not have the love and support of your spouse or significant other during those hard times, makes it so much worse and puts even more unnecessary stress on them. Be there, show them that no matter what they are facing, that they are not alone, and that you are there for them every step of the way.

Me too. I actually feel bad after reading this. I promised myself I would stop after a few entries, but I was bored (thus, Bored Panda). Luckily for me I don't spend enough time on the internet to have to see things like this except for this sad collection. The people I spend time with in real life don't have this sort of critical thinking skills deficit. Help! Where is the unsee juice? What have I done to myself?

In German, the word "female" (= Weibchen) and "male" (= Männchen) is only used for animals, not humans. It's beyond me how someone could call a human that way.

I think that's why the term "female" is dehumanizing: it's a term typically focused just on biology, and not the psychological and sociological aspects of the individual that would go with words like "boy", "girl", "woman", "man" ...

Honestly, I feel sorry for these boys (and yes, they are boys...not men). The same boys who moan about not getting a "female" because they are short, probably wouldn't date a woman because she isn't thin. I personally have dated men who were 6'5" down to 5'3", Everyone has their preferences, but most women I know could care less about height - it's all about personality.

Hi! Its because "female" has the feeling of only talking about the biological gender of someone, and doesnt recognize women and girls (I dont mean to infantilize women, I mean like kids like myself) as people with a life and feelings. this also works in a similar way when one calls someone who is a grown woman a girl, but its much more subtle in the way it degrades women.
