Woman Confronts A Creepy Guy Taking Photos Of Her And Her Friend At The Pool, Divides The Internet
Recently, TikToker Mai Pham (or @maiphammy) and her friend confronted a man who was taking pictures of them while they were chilling by a pool.
4 days ago, Pham shared footage of the experience online to remind everyone to stay vigilant about creeps.
“Excuse me,” one of the women says. “I’d really appreciate it if you deleted the photos of us off your phone.”
However, the man was really clinging on to his amateur paparazzi shots. He initially tried to avoid the conflict by showing the women his favorites album instead of his actual cameral roll. But they immediately called him out.
4 days ago, Mai Pham shared a TikTok where she and her friend confronted a man taking pics of them at the pool
The video already has over 6 million views
Even once the man seemed to have given up the charade, he tried to wave the women off, promising he would delete the photos. His hands were visibly shaking as he asked them to stop hovering over his head. It was “intimidating,” he complained.
Of course, approaching someone who is being a creep, even in a public space, can be really unpleasant and even scary, so many people who watched the video applauded Mai and her friend for their bravery.
But some claimed that the man was well within his rights to take pictures since they were in a public place, and that Mai and her friend are guilty of doing the “same thing” since they recorded him without his approval too.
@maiphammystay safe out there ladies. decided to confront a creep taking pics of us when we were just trying to hang by the pool. HE TRIED DENYING IT.♬ original sound – maiphammy
But some people pointed out that since it’s a public place, the man didn’t commit any crimes

Others, however, stood by the women, saying it’s still not ok
Everybody who says "The law doesn't forbid it, so it's okay." still has a lot to learn in life. About decency. About respect. About freedom.
In Europe with GDPR it would not even be ok even by law. Technically, if you take pictures in which people can be identified you need to ask them for consent...even if that would be 50 people hanging around in a public place.
Load More Replies...All these people saying "Well it's not illegal!" is why we can't have nice things.
So many photos on the internet would be illegal. People of Walmart like a poster in article said comes immediately to mind.
Load More Replies...She is recording a video of him... while saying "it is inappropriate to take a picture/video of me". Not only that, but she violates his privacy even further by posting the video online. I appreciate that what he was doing is creepy, but I have a problem of the hypocrisy and the self righteous attitude of people who think "it is wrong when you do it, but ok when I do the exact same thing... just because my motivation is vengeance rather than yours of being a perv"
Is it hypocrisy or is it giving him a taste of his own medicine? They didn't go out and just start recording him for no reason. As you stated what he is doing isn't illegal but it's rude and there are consequences for being rude.
Load More Replies...This is by no means an issue just with men, it's a creep issue. I have two female neighbours who film my children in my back yard. I have talked to the police, the hedge that separates the yards is not considered enough for me to assume privacy, and their deck extend above the hedge height. The fact my children are young still doesn't protect them. This is the law in many places, no matter how I feel about it. The proper course of action I guess is to address the law.
Man takes pictures of women but doesn't post them on social media, women video man and post it on social media. Both should have thought about what they were doing, but the man has got every right to sue the women while the women have got nothing against the man. He didn't commit a crime and exercised his legal right to take pictures in a public place. The women may not like it, just as I don't like it when my neighbor blocks my view with his truck. I can ask him to park somewhere else but if he refuses I have nothing to force him. The women went over the top with this.
Nah. Women have every right to object when they have their day intruded upon by some creep who is taking fap material of them without their consent. What he did to them was a violation. He sexualized them and decided he was going to take their images for his own little masturbation fantasies. It isn't the same thing as blocking someone's view with a truck, and you know that. Sad how many creepies are out in full force defending their creepy homie, though. What a world.
Load More Replies...What a cree! Why do men do this?!? It's disgusting and desperate. Maybe he has erectile disfunction...
Yes, a creep, but, don't tell me women don't do this as well. It's an equal opportunity world.
Load More Replies...Here's a novel idea: Don't take photos or videos of total strangers without permission, b/c it is disrespectful, even if it is not "illegal". Do you want this to happen to your family/spouse/etc.? No. So don't do it to others. Wow, just turned into my mother.
oh oh you mean like how young idiots of the tik tok world post people with out their permission? and gets millions of views?
Load More Replies...I don't agree with them putting him online. But they have every right to ask him to delete the pictures. As he has the right to take pictures. Lots of things that are legal are wrong. It's legal to lie, but people are allowed to stand up to you when you do it. If the guy was genuinely taking pictures to gawk at later, then power to those women who made him delete that. That's not okay to do to someone. Who cares if it's legal or whatnot, it's nasty and not okay.
You can confront someone doing something you do not like, and even take a video for evidence if need be. When you post it on the internet you become a problem as well. These things end up on multiple platforms constantly. Get your problems sorted out without blasting them all over the internet.
I wonder if people would feel the same if the women were little kids?? It may not be illegal but there are still consequences for creepy behavior. Maybe now he'll think twice before taking pictures of women. As women were told constantly to stick up for ourselves and keep ourselves safe and as soon as we do we're told we're doing it wrong and that's not what they meant. Well what did you mean then? We have to wait until we're actively assaulted or wait until we see our pictures on a porn site of some sort while this dude runs facial recognition and tracks us down? Or tags the area were in to find out who we are and were we live??
"We have to wait until we're actively assaulted or wait until we see our pictures on a porn site of some sort while this dude runs facial recognition and tracks us down?" ==> NO. Once the guy deleted the pictures, you need to not post his video on social media. If you are really afraid this guy will commit illegal things, go to the police and keep the video private as proof. Simple rules you can follow.
Load More Replies...We all can agree that you should not takes pictures of other people, dressed or not, without their permission. That been said, He deleted the photos and that should have been the end of it. but now, because of the shaming spree in which we live in and the story being share by that woman, all he (and everybody else) has to do is go to her tiktok to see her almost nude.
I don't understand why everyone keeps saying it's legal. Depending on the property being public vs private, yeah, maybe it was legal. But these women didn't call the police and try to report him as a criminal. They came up to him and firmly insisted that he stop. If a family member is yelling at me for something that I truly did not do because they're in a bad mood and venting their frustration, that's not okay with me. That violates a boundary I have about baseline respectful communication. I have every right to firmly tell that family member to stop. Their action doesn't meet the definition of criminal behavior, but I never even claimed it did just by telling them to stop. Also, legal doesn't equal right, and laws change. In many states, taking photos up someone's skirt without their knowledge is still legal in public places, but that is gradually changing, because our values as a society are gradually (hopefully!) changing too.
Yep. As with speech, freedom to do a thing is not the same as freedom from its social consequences. He was under no legal obligation to delete those images but he did when confronted because he knew damn well he was in the moral wrong.
Load More Replies...I feel like I need a bit more info for this. Was he taking pics of the pool that just happened to have to women in them or was he taking pics of just the women.
As an 18 yr old women who that's happened to, and who feels stared at and gets weird remarks every other day, this feeling for the women is horrible. And if people are decent human beings they'd realize that and see that whether or not it's legal, it's very wrong.
Seems like everyone is looking for their "15 minutes of shame" these days... It's the latest way to get likes/views/media attention. Btw, we are probably in a lot of pictures in other people's cameras. The world is a populated place and there are cameras everywhere.
Unless that pool was owned and operated by their city, it is NOT A PUBLIC PLACE. it is a private business and they CAN make their own rules. Taking photos of people without their consent - no matter where they are - is creepy and sick. There is ZERO excuse for this. I have seen many hotels/pools/gyms, and other venues who post signs telling people NOT to take photographs, and it's getting to the point where some gyms do not permit phones in the workout areas.
Yes, true. So wherever they were could throw him out, and ban him, but the cops couldn't do anything. It's private property, but there is no expectation of privacy there under the law because when there you are aware you are visible to others.
Load More Replies...God these ppl are dumbasses like holy, why would he take pictures of him in private. “Well it’s not illegal” well it’s like saying, my friend pegged my sister well it’s not illegal so I’ll let it slide” I’m not siding with anyone since the girl did post it on social media.
So, lesson for all you creepers out there: you're not obligated to show your photos to anyone. As we saw with the story of the man in the gym, people will feel entitled to see what's on your phone to see if you have taken pictures. You are not required to show them at all. So don't. I'm not thrilled with the idea of people taking pictures, but then again he's not taking pictures of them in their rooms. They are in public. Where everyone can see them. The only thing a photo does is capture what was clearly visible at that time. What he's doing is no different than a paparazzi does to a celebrity on the beach/out-about-town, etc. No expectation of privacy.
I don't think this is right. I've taken pics on vacation that have plenty of different people in them. Even if he took the pics bc he thought they were hot I am going to go out on a limb (albeit a very short limb) and agree with a few statements already made. The ladies, I feel, jumped to conclusions way too fast. I don't think they had a right to intimidate the man. And I also agree that had the guy been hot they would not had a problem with it. They probably would have went over there to take pics with him had that been the case. I also want to say that I believe these ladies are very full of themselves. I'm sure they have no problem with things like the people of Walmart or trash magazines with pap pics of famous people with all their cellulite hanging out. You can't have it both ways ladies. If you get to gawk at photos or take photos of ppl others can too.
This happened with my 1 yrs old son at the community kiddie pool... a strange man was photographing my son. Super inappropriate & creepy but as the police put it, not a crime. I walked home meandering & looking over my shoulder the entire time to make sure I wasn't followed. A couple of days later it was on the local news to watch out for a guy with the same description doing this & to call police if he was encountered. Good on them for safely confronting him, illegal or not. Trust your gut always.
That's not a public place. So all this talk about being legal is moot.
Wait, this is the same girl with TikTok videos all over the internet and she didn’t want a person taking her picture? She makes a living selling videos of herself. I’m confused.
Are you suggesting that angrily telling a man to delete the pictures he took of you without your knowledge/permission at the pool is criminal, because you're interfering with his "right" to photograph people in public? Also, a club, resort, or hotel is not public to begin with, from what I understand. "Public" would be walking down the street, or sitting on a bench in the park. If you're paying for membership to enter a closed space, and it's not as if people can just wander in off the street, then how is that "public"?
Everything's so confusing. Someone's saying it's a public pool so it's perfectly legal. Someone's saying you're doing the same with the guy. Someone's saying just because he did, doesn't mean you should either. And someone's saying respect, decency, freedom. Bla bla. OmLLL. So, border line, he shouldn't have specifically taken her pictures and she shouldn't have recorded him for her proof???? I don't know. Confusing. Internet in a nutshell.
Women take pictures of hot men to share with their friends all the time. We all take pictures/videos of people doing odd things in public to share with friends or the internet. We can't be ok with it in those circumstances but call it creepy when men take pictures of hot women. If you're gonna take pictures of someone be prepared to be called out.
I wonder if it was a man they were attracted to, would they have the same concerns?
So women taking pictures of “hot guys” to show their friends is okay, but men *possibly* taking pictures of hot women to show his friends is creepy and not okay, not to mention follows the rule of “guilty until proven innocent”. Congrats people, you are no longer secure in your property or possessions as long as some Karen THINKS you’re guilty.
I fell that intent should be taken into consideration, the fact that he tries to hide it & then complains that he's being recorded shows that he didn't want to be found out. Unfortunately some people won't take being called out seriously, unless there's a camera. The guy made them uncomfortable, he got what was deserved.
Disappointing to see people in here take the 'but it's legal'-route. Just because something is legal doesn't make it right, merely 60+ years ago a handful of messed up racial discrimination/segregation related stuff were 'legal' as well and those were not right either.
On a sunny day it's hard to make out what's on my phone close up. How do these girls know what he was recording, or intending to record? How would have known in the first place he was recording anyone? When I see men on their phones, or anyone, my first thought isn't that they're recording me. I'm likely on many people's phones but I wouldn't know that and what would I care. Back in the day when people were mostly using cameras we would take pictures of the scenery and our family and friends in public areas. If you didn't want to be in the picture you would stand back or get out of the way. But sometimes we wouldn't know and you'd end up in the background in a photo sitting in someone's album. I have a suspicion this another way for girls to flatter themselves by thinking they're so desirable and hot that every man in the world wants a piece of them. The reality is not as many men care nor think you're all that.
By that logic...upskirt pics are OK. Pics inside your house taken from outside. Pics of your child OK. They had pics for 2 different reasons-his unknwn but pretty safe to say for something creepy and for no pre-defined reason. The amount of pics you take for what reason determines whether you should or not. Person has a great shirt, take a pic. OK. Two women in bathing suits at the pool, take several pics. Not ok.
Yes, it is skeezy, but, it is lawful, and, consider that these "TikTokers" are doing things for TikTok at the pool and taking videos of themselves, and people will take videos themselves. And then these ladies are taking photos and videos of the guy, doing exactly what they are "upset" about. And, sooner or later, things are going to go very wrong when someone confronts a person.
While I don’t personally like the mans actions, it is perfectly legal. Maybe he was sending pics to his friends like see what hot girls are here come hang out with me. Which our knee jerk reaction is that’s creepy but if a woman texted her friends look what hot guys are here we wouldn’t think twice. If anything the man may have grounds for libel because his face is now plastered all over the internet calling him a creep. Again personally do I like what he did? no. But it’s an important freedom we have like it or not
I don't secretly take pictures.of men in public and send them to my friends. Ever. I don't really think it's respectful for ANYONE of ANY gender to do that.
Load More Replies...Wow lots of creeps on this site that think what this man did is okay. He was intentionally taking photos of them. Not just his surroundings. Why shouldn't they film him? Do we even know how old these girls are? Disgusting that people are defending him. What if this was your daughters and some creep was taking photos of them to jerk it to later? And to the people saying "maybe he's taking photos to show his wife the bathing suits" grow up. We know why he was taking photos of young girls and it isn't that. If you take photos of people without their consent you deserve to be filmed without consent and exposed. We need to protect each other from these creeps.
Okay, I feel like collecting some outrage so this; do you spend all spring getting toned, tanned, etc just so you can hit the beach in a bikini and then be upset when you draw some attention? Maybe it's whose attention that's drawn. I guarantee me and all the other non George Clooney types are looking. Photos are a little over the top but it's the same principle.
Not the same principal at all. Also, staring is creepy. There are ways to look and admire without being a creep. Taking pictures without consent to fap to later is beyond creepy, and the men that do this, and the men who defend this, are creeps.

You didn t get trolled. But let people judge it themselves. https://www.boredpanda.com/gym-photo-pic-conflict-privacy-aita/?comment_id=7250997. You calling out things sexist because you don't agree with Something for example. Then again you are an easily excitable panda. Maybe it's hard to think clear sometimes
Load More Replies...I don't think she is underage. There is also a tiktok link to her tiktok in the article with all kind of posts that the old guy would find interesting if he would indeed self gratify himself with her in swimsuit. Maybe he reads BP
