As a guy, you probably have fewer options for keeping your look fresh than women do, unless you are jumping on the male makeup 'trend.' So what can you do? Hit the gym, maybe a tanning salon. Get a new outfit. However, as this talented Japanese barber proves, by far the most effective way of transforming your looks is getting a good haircut.
Shou Otsuki is one of the staff barbers at Tokyo hair salon L. Dorado, and he has made a name for himself with the incredible before-and-after shots of his clients. The videos often begin with a shy, awkward-looking guy with a shapeless, unremarkable hairstyle. Otsuki covers the camera with the comb before pulling it away to reveal... A completely new person. The happiness and confidence that Otsuki's cool new style gives to his clients is there for all to see, and they wouldn't look out of place in a fashion magazine! "I just want to make everyone look cool," Otsuki told Bored Panda. "I suggest a look based on the client's facial shape or just how he seems as a person, I like to try to match the atmosphere."
So forget the plastic surgeon, and step away from that tanning machine, it can be dangerous. If you really want to shake things up and change the way you look, make an appointment with your barber today!

lol, like that Iranian in the UK. 30 to 15, for the file....
Load More Replies...I don't think he had. It's a techinque of cutting that makes your hair look thicker - in the first pic his hair are the same length, in the second they are trimmed in different lengths. We call that "shading" here and it deos wonders.
Load More Replies...But what about his glasses - those of us who wear glasses do so because we have to, in order to see the world around us.
His hair cut in the second picture reminds me of the Panic! At The Disco, pretty odd era, where they all had shaggy bangs and emo hair. :))
Sarah Adams I should SO move to Japan and be a barber there for expats etc. All of these articles get me even more excited about the possibility! Ugh If only the work visas were achievable for my craft 😭
He should have smiled in the "before" photo ... his expression makes the "after" photo.
if he would have side parted the before picture it would have been perfect
See, and I think it's makes him more mature looking, more polished, like a grown up. Huh
In the before, he's looking like "what did they brush my hair like this for?" After is very good, but hard to judge.
Having looked through them all I assume these are examples of bad hair cuts, thus emphasising the importance of a good haircut?
This was one of the few that looked like his hair normally in the before. Looks better after.
He's very happy, but it looks to me as if he's going to need a weekly trim to keep it looking good. It's long enough as he cut it that it's going to grow out so fast he won't have a chance to enjoy it before needing another cut. That's not a problem with the previous cuts, fortunately. But hey, if this young man with the amazing cheekbones can afford cuts that often, then I say enjoy your new hair and all the girls it attracts!
Load More Replies...Anybody else thinking hedgehog or porcupine? Maybe even bog brush? I guess it’s better than the first pic but I wouldn’t want that hairstyle if I was a guy
Does everyone on this photos need to have wet hair? We should see their hair before they got wet/in normal state.
And then it's mostly product. ..But they do look good.
Load More Replies...1stly, his basic haircut looked like disaster. Any haircut could be better. 2nd: in korea or japan changing man's hair color is normal or even popular.
Yeah, much better if you're looking for the "old lady blue hair" look.
Maybe not everyone likes the weird blue gray that has become popular (I don't) but the cut itself makes him look amazing
Load More Replies...Honestly I love the grey and the hairstyle, I can't believe others don't have nice words to say about this one.
I will never understand this fashion of wanting grey hair, I do everything I can to cover my white hairs up!
Load More Replies...What's the draw for all the "slick straight hair styles" in Japanese men? If you look at the "before" photo of most of these men, their hair is slick and straight.
Actually I might be wrong but it looks kinda like if it's been combed with a wet comb to me. Like hairdressers sometimes do before cutting hair so it's more even and they can see exactly how much to cut. If that's the case though, these pictures make no sense whatsoever because there's no real 'before' in them, wet combed hair looks the same with any haircut
Load More Replies...That's very common in Japan, whenever someone gets the sniffles or thinks he's going to, to wear a mask to protect the people around him. I like it! It's better than spraying germs everywhere, that's for sure.
Load More Replies...I seem to have issues about men's hair dye that were previously only in my subconscious. This red is awful! *takes a seat and shuts up*
Awesome. There are but a few men in the world that look good with long hair. There should be a license you have to pass. Most to all (ha ha) would fail.
Going through these photos and I think I'm crushing on the hairdresser instead :P
It's what people wear in Asia, to protect themselves and others from getting sick.
Load More Replies...He kept the glasses too. I have to be fair it is a lovely change. He looks more confident
The glasses look like they came straight out of the '80s, though -- such huge lenses!
Load More Replies...Client is on the fence due to not being able to see the second style.
Load More Replies...Basically this haircut and the off the face, finger in a light socket style.
Pretty sure this guy (or any of the others probably) isn't going to spend 20 minutes in the morning to put all kinds of goop in his hair, and finger-fluff it.
It wouldn’t take that long at all. He cut layers into the hair that takes advantage of its’ naturally coarse texture. All this guy would have to do in the morning is get out of the shower, put goo on his hands and fluff it into shape. Less than 5 minutes.
Load More Replies...Nice! Dude has a great before smile! Haidresser is having a heinous hair day
Reference librarian in her 60s who hadn't had a change of style in 2 decades.
Load More Replies...Most of these styles Are The Same! Oh waiiiit! The popped collar! Is that coming back?
First look looked like a girl, having a bad hair day.. Makeover much better..
Damaged his hair with that blond/white... hair looks pretty dry... cut it all of and let it grow again
Dying your hair grey has been quite popular for awhile. It really suits a lot of people, particularly men.
Is this worse than the grey dye job??? I see older ladies with this color at Publix all the damn time! PS, I live in God's Waiting Room, Florida.
I much preferred the before cut - perhaps a big shorter. Second cut looks much more untidy and messed up!
All the hairdresser needed to do was give him a ramen-noodle perm a la Justin Timberlake.
Load More Replies...Wow. Don't like most of them but that gotta be the worst, guy used to be so cute, with such peaceful mature look and nice hair, and now he's flatout ugly, looking like a dumb rebellious teen and probably damaged hair too(it's not healthy to just bleach hair like that) :'( Whyyyy
All these after haircuts are like how girls styled their bangs in the 80s
An awful lot of these guys seem to start with very smooth Beatles hair!!
It's because the "before" pic often features wet hair - they dont show what their actual previous finished style looked like
Load More Replies...I'm not sure which is worse, the 1st or the 2nd! What is it with the trend of making nice shiny hair look like a dull matted mess?
I think that is why they all look so much better, you can see more of their face and that is much more attractive.
shows a good haircut makes a lot of difference
Load More Replies...Is he buying all these guys contact lenses too? I have never had a hair cut that corrected my sight before
My point exactly! As a woman, I get pressured all the time to leave my glasses off, but I literally can not SEE without them, and can't wear contacts either. I reckon we can be beautiful even with glasses, notwithstanding the movie clique where ugly duckling slips off her glasses, shakes down her hair and is instantly a desirable woman (when she wasn't before). Makes me mad, myopic me!
Load More Replies...Well, the client looks pleased in his blue bathrobe and old lady cut 'n color.
I guess he got so much gray hair dye in his shop. There can't be any other explanation. :)
In Japan, they (teens to 20s) seem to follow the fads - it used to be that brassy blond. This year is the shades of grey.
Load More Replies...I want to go to this guy for a colour change, I couldn't get my black hair that colour even after months and then it was sooo damaged
Oh. Well. That's sad. Also, please notice that Mr Hairdresser is now dipping into the grey dye himself.
I think he has them take off their glasses because he also has shaped their eyebrows, if I'm seeing correctly. With my glasses on.
He doesn't look that old. S****y joke but apart from that, he doesn't look Korean in the slightest.
Load More Replies...He looks like a mixture between Mario and Markiplier
I prefer them with glasses and sometimes in the before pics...
Load More Replies...Hairdresser has been giving everyone his own cut! He and his grey dye have been phoning it in!
A lot of them looked better before, and some don't seem all that pleased with the work either.
A go to colour, a go to style. Most of these guys look better but they all sort of start looking the same to me.
Does this hairdresser not have any other colour but grey... maybe his colour blind🤔
This hairdresser has limited styles I think he should Google different men's haircuts and colors!
Oh! The top one is hilarious! The after is just sad. Heartbreakingly sad.
I had to take a second look on that pink thing at the bottom pic.
I don't like the fluffy, fried texture of some of these afters. I think the barber is sort of losing it.
Oh God he just aged this guy about 50 years. I know this is "trendy" but on him it just looks old.
Japanese barber gives several men one of the two hairstyles he's capable of doing....
1 of the 2 worst hair styles he's capable of doing. These looked bad.
Load More Replies...These haircuts are magic: They make your eyes better, so you don't need prescription glasses anymore!
A lot of the commenters here are applying Western beauty standards and expression to these guys and the hair cuts. It's very clear that the lot of you don't know much about Japanese culture. Whether or not you hate the grayish blue dye, it IS a popular thing to do there and doesn't automatically make a bad hair cut. The barber isn't forcing the color on anyone. The color is even popular in my city, but mostly on women because it's not socially acceptable in the US for men to dye their hair unnatural colors. To those saying the guys won't do their hair every day: yes, they will. This is again applying Western masculinity standards to Japanese men. Besides, it looks like most would probably just need to put in some bedhead and ruffle a bit.
Actually, I'm watching a lot of Asian dramas/movies, and I see a lot of those hairstyles, so maybe I'm used to it, but unlike most of the other posters, I think (nearly) all the guys look way better after, some of them even went from "okay" to quite hot in fact!
Load More Replies...Am I the only person getting the frosted tips late 90's vibe from some of these?
Barbers often have you take your glasses off for a cut, but have you put them back on for a pic.....not sure why they left them off here. And maybe the grey dye is easier on the hair than bleach for lightening...that's the only reason I can think he uses it so often (besides trend). To this whole post, I declare: meh
He seems to just have two styles and they are not much different. Boring.
1. put on glasses, cause not every hairstyle will match them. 2. To all who wonder where the volume went in the 1st pics - mostly they are presented with wet hair, so we don't even get to see the original haircuts they had and they all look same. 3. Gray hair sure, but see how mate they are? They lost gloss, so they probably were bleached really hard. A good hairstylist will never do such a drastic bleach in one session (I hope he just showed the very first and very last pic, but I doubt that). 4. Some of the supershort cuts don't cut it and are not mathcing the face shapes at all, making the person look out of place.
