Dad Gives Update After “Male Karen” Harassed Him For Helping His Daughter In Women’s Restroom, Made Girl Cry

The father who was berated for entering the women’s restroom with his young daughters has shared an update on the case.

Tyler Brodsky was confronted by a furious customer at an Alabama QuikTrip gas station. The man argued that his wife wanted to use the restroom but became outraged upon seeing Brodsky inside with his two girls.

Brodsky recorded part of the interaction, which showed one of his daughters crying as she heard the man confronting her father.

    Highlights
    • Tyler Brodsky took his daughters into an empty women's restroom at a QuikTrip to protect their safety during a road trip.
    • An irate man confronted Brodsky, called 911, and berated him for entering the women’s restroom with his girls.
    • A video of the incident shows store manager Melissa defending Brodsky and comforting his upset daughters before police arrived.

During the now-viral clip, the irate customer is heard calling the police to report that Brodsky had entered the women’s bathroom.

Following the incident, the father told TMZ that he accompanies his daughters to the women’s restroom when he’s with them—he is no longer in a relationship with the girls’ mother—and clarified that the bathroom was empty when the three went in.

Brodsky explained that he recorded and later posted the exchange to call out the aggressive man and highlight how well the store manager handled the incident.

On Tuesday (June 16), the dad posted an update on TikTok in which he thanked people for their support and shared what happened after the video ended.

“We never expected this to reach millions of people, so it’s kind of surreal,” he said.

Brodsky shared that police arrived five minutes after the furious customer, who has been comically labeled a “male Karen” online, called 911 to report his behavior.

The father praised the officers for being “professional” and quickly “de-escalating” the situation.

“One of the officers was talking to me and explained that the situation wasn’t as black-and-white as many people may think.

“And they pointed out that taking two little girls into the men’s restroom could be viewed just as negatively as me being in the women’s restroom with my girls.”

@tylerbrodsky2 Y’all make this man famous. We stopped at a QuikTrip on our road trip from Florida back to Oklahoma so my daughters could use the restroom. The women’s restroom was empty, so I took them in. I’d rather do that than bring two little girls into a men’s bathroom full of grown men and dirty stalls. This guy comes barging in yelling, scares my daughters, and somehow thinks THEY should’ve been in the men’s room instead. Am I wrong here? 🤷‍♂️ #GirlDad#RoadTrip#parenting#fyp#viral♬ original sound – Tyler Brodsky

Brodsky said police tried to understand both of the men’s perspectives but ultimately took no action against him.

“They did let me know that I was okay, that I didn’t do anything wrong. They were very reassuring.”

During his follow-up video, he also thanked Melissa, the store manager who had intervened to defend him and his daughters.

“Me being in that situation with them, I really needed that,” the father said. “It’s always good to have someone in your corner willing to show some support.”

He said Melissa checked on his two young girls to see if they were okay and helped calm them down.

After the confrontation, the store gave the children free snacks.

“As a dad, seeing someone show that kind of kindness to my daughters in a stressful moment means a lot,” Brodsky shared.

Brodsky explained that, after officers interviewed Melissa about the incident, they asked the irate customer to exit the store.

“What happened next is what I’ll remember the most,” the dad continued. “The police officers came to talk to my girls and made sure they felt safe. They reassured them that there was no danger and that they were there to protect them.”

The father said the police’s positive intervention will likely “put a good image” of law enforcement in his daughters’ eyes as they grow up.

Police asked the angry customer who called 911 to leave the store, Brodsky explained

@tylerbrodsky2 UPDATE: My girls are safe, happy, and doing great. ❤️ Thank you all for the support. Here’s what happened after the video ended. #GirlDad#DadLife#Parenting#Update#fyp♬ original sound – Tyler Brodsky

Finally, Brodsky stated that the incident he recorded is frequent and that he had received thousands of messages from mothers, fathers, and grandparents who had experienced similar situations.

“Girl dads and boy moms are often put in a situation where there isn’t a perfect answer,” he stressed.

“Most parents aren’t trying to make anyone uncomfortable. We’re simply trying to take care of our children and keep them safe.”

He concluded by asking viewers to stop sending hateful messages to the man in the video, and that he simply wanted to highlight a common issue that many single parents face.

Brodsky’s TikTok video of the incident, which has amassed over 15 million views in less than two days, shows an unidentified man on the phone reporting on a “man with his two little girls using the women’s bathroom.”

“He is washing his hands with his daughters right now. He’s leaving,” the man is heard saying.

The customer tells Brodsky that he should have asked Melissa to accompany the girls into the bathroom instead of going in himself, to which he simply replies, “I’m their dad!”

Image credits: Kurt Nordstrom/flickr (not an actual photo)

Melissa is seen closing the bathroom door and telling Brodsky that she is “so sorry” about the tense situation.

Once outside the restroom, Brodsky approaches the man, who, still on the phone with police, asks the father to stop recording him.

XD I have no idea if this woman even exists, but if she's "very ill", she probably needs assistance using the restroom... thus Angry Bald Man would need to be in the women's restroom with her. It's also pretty gross that he stands inside the restroom staring at the two little girls instead of completing his call to the police outside the restroom. Why does he need to stand in the women's restroom and stare at two little girls?

It is understandable that you want to ensure that children are safe. That requires asking questions and establishing the situation, not come out with guns blazing and a shoot first ask questions later attitude. Also, many people need to keep their biases and racism in check where it does not belong. Stop telling people what they can and can't do.

My Mom is disabled in a wheelchair and my Dad is her caretaker. She cannot go to the restroom on her own. He always takes her to the ladies and they use the handicapped stall. He announces his presence and they go in. No one has ever complained. In fact, most women who see them smile and make nice comments. After fifty-five years of marriage he would never abandon her in the ladies room or take her to the men’s.

The "let my wife do it bc she's a mother" is crazy as well. Imagine suggesting that a stranger is more suitable to take care of you than your loving dad. Ffs, when I was 9 I had surgery and needed to shower with a special product. My dad was with me in the hospital and the nurse asked me if I'd rather her or my dad help me shower. I understand perfectly the reason and she was right to ask, but I picked my dad bc I really wouldn't have wanted a stranger in an intimate situation. How dehumanizing for the father to insinuate a parent bond is annihilated by his possession of a p***s.

Women, including mothers, have also been used to lure children in for kidnapping or trafficking. I wouldn't trust my kids with a stranger just because she was a woman!

Exiting the women's, I encountered a young dad with his small daughter, and it was clear he had no idea which rest room to use. I told him the women's was empty, and that I would stand outside until they came back out. The two women who approached while I was thus occupied had absolutely no issue waiting a couple of minutes. The dad in the above post was right in his decision.

When I was a kid, busybodies were old people who stayed t home, watching neighbors through the curtains. They certainly make their opinions known these days, don’t they? We would encourage them to say home like in the old days. 😀

The way public toilets are, as long as they father called out as he went in, it's not a problem as ladies loos are all cubicles. Calling out would ensure no one was adjusting clothing by the mirror. But in the mens the risk of those girls being around men at urinals with their junk out makes it far worse to take them in there. There are often signs in the UK loos to warn of male cleaners being in there so I think we all know to exit the cubicle with clothing in place.

As a dad of 2 girls I can see both sides 1 dad is protecting his little ladies in a female environment. 2 The male Karen i understand as he may have his wife or daughter in there and they may feel uncomfortable. However male Karen should realise if he has little girls (yes I still call me daughters my little girls aged 26 and 20) that as long as you call out and ask permission no woman is going to deny a dad taking his child into their assigned loo. Plus ladies toilets are so much nicer and well kept than us blokes ones

If I had seen a man in the ladies toilet, I’d have done a double take - then clocked the kids and understood. Much better for them to be in the ladies’ with their dad than the gents. Generally speaking, this wouldn’t have been an issue in the UK, it’s perfectly normal over here for little kids of both sexes to be in the ladies toilets, usually with mam, but dad’s fine too. If the dad isn’t comfortable taking girls into the ladies’, it’s common for him to ask a woman going in to take them. At least it was while I was growing up in the 70s and 80s. Baldy overreacted and showed himself to be a complete a**e. Well done the dad and manager.

In a social media post, the Starkville, Mississippi-based Overstreet Properties said it was aware of videos circulating online showing a man who worked as an independent contractor for the firm. "The conduct depicted in the video does not reflect the values of Overstreet Properties or the standards we expect of those who represent our organization," the post stated. "Our focus remains on providing quality service to our clients, partners, and community." The company added that it is no longer associated with the unidentified man, which was first reported by TMZ.

When I was a small boy, way back in the 1970s, and I was out with my mother and needed to pee, she would take me into the nearest Ladies public toilet to do what I needed to do. And y'know what? No one cared because A - I was a child, B - I was supervised by my mother, and C - People weren't such nosy judgemental a-holes.

I can see only two potential reasons for this: 1) as one commenter noted, trans-panic has made many gender-paranoid people feel justified in extremely intrusive bathroom policing based on spurious assumptions and totally uncalled-for outrage (which is not to say that there were *never* issues with dad's being harrassed for taking daughters into ladies' rooms in the past, but it used to be very uncommon); OR, this guy secretly *loves* it when a dad brings a little girl into the men's room, finds it a bit exciting, even (even if he's sure that he's too "decent" to ever actually dare to "accidentally" expose himself to her), and he felt kind of cheated by the dad taking them into the ladies' room. It is understandable that you want to ensure that children are safe. That requires asking questions and establishing the situation, not come out with guns blazing and a shoot first ask questions later attitude. Also, many people need to keep their biases and racism in check where it does not belong. Stop telling people what they can and can't do.

That man didn't give one rickety f**k about those girls or their safety, he's just obsessed with whoever enters which bathroom for his stupid transphobic b******t.

Really, what is it with some people? I often had to take my daughter to the toilet when it was just the two of us out and about. I took her into the ladies or gents depending on which was most convenient for her at the time, never had a single problem.

What do they think is going to happen if a man enters the women’s bathroom?

Bit dramatic but the customer was only looking out for the kids. A dude taking two girls into a restroom would raise my eyes too. I don't think I'd call the cops though. Better to be wrong than have two kids assaulted
