Guy Shares His Incredible Landlord Story After Getting A Check For $2,500 As A ‘Share’ From Selling The House
When you hear the word ‘landlord,’ odds are, your mind will automatically recoil because of some fairly negative associations. The fact is, when you’re a tenant, it can feel like your landlord has all the power in the world to make your life heaven or hell if they choose to. Though it can be fun to whine and moan about how awful and exploitative some of these landlords are from time to time, it completely ignores the reality that there are truly wonderful people renting their property out there. And Chris Robarge, from Worcester in Massachusetts, has the proof.
Earlier this week, Chris shared on Facebook how he was utterly surprised by how kind-hearted his former landlord was. In the emotional post, the man explained how the landlord sent him a check for 2,500 dollars after selling the house Chris had lived in for a while. It was, in his own words, the first place he called home after moving out after his divorce. The check was a thank-you from the landlord to every single tenant who lived there and contributed to the profit made from selling the house.
You’ll find Chris’ full story below, dear Pandas. Have a read and let us know whether you’re as shocked (in a completely positive way) as we are. Got any wholesome stories about landlords or tenants to share with us? Drop us a comment at the bottom of this article.
Chris urged others to be generous after sharing the story of how his former landlord sent him a check after selling their house
The man also had a wholesome update for us. He’s giving away most of the money to charity!
The check was for a whopping 2,500 dollars
And here’s the full letter that Chris’ landlord sent him
Chris’ post went viral in a flash. His story on Facebook had 7.4k likes, 3.6k shares, and over 560 comments at the time of writing. What’s more, the story also spread to Imgur where it got a further 4k upvotes.
After going viral, Chris had an update to the story. He said that he’ll be giving away the vast majority of the money to charity and those people who need the cash more than he does. The man also said that he hopes this will inspire others to do what they can to spread kindness and make the world a better place.
Sarah Vero from ‘Action for Happiness’ previously explained to me that what we do for others makes up a large part of our own happiness. So in being altruistic and spreading joy, we’re not only making others happy, we’re also laying the foundations for our own happiness.
“Think about how you can reach out and do things for others, help a neighbor or volunteer for a cause, we get a happiness high from helping other people. Or start small and simply list three things that you can be grateful for each night before bed. Take it slow and be kind to yourself, the world is starting to open up but go at the pace that feels good for you,” Sarah told Bored Panda what we can do to move out of the pandemic mode we’ve been in as the world opens up in some places.
Chris’ story warmed many an internet user’s heart
I used to rent a house that was not so great and had issues but i had the best landlord ever! She never said no to fixing staff even though she was struggling too, she accepted lower rent and she did everything she could cause she knew the house was not great! Sometimes this is more important than living to a great house with an asshole over your neck
And, you all made the house better than when you moved in, made her feel more appreciated, and she in return, honored your husbands efforts to make the house and your life better by helping her out and helping your "home" to be safer! I love kindness, and you really so get a kindness contact high!! Thank you!

Wow what a truly kind individual. I remember my first landlord every time something was broken he would go to a scrap yard to source a replacement, I’d just had my first child and he decided he would put up the rent from £995 a month to £1,750 a month. The house was a 1930s build and was clear it had had no work done to it since the mid 1970s. A year after moving out he was in prison after being found guilty of rape involving the new tenant and her daughter!
That got dark quickly. I'm glad you got out of there in time

This is one of the most wholesome things I have read in quite some time. I was also lucky with my previous landlord, who didn't raise the rent (that was already low compared to where I live and the space that I have) for 3 years in a row, because the costs were covered and he didn't want to exploit his tenants. He isn't a landlord anymore, but I still like to brag about him and let everyone know good people are definitely out there, even if you don't see them all the time
Good deals come in various forms. When my wife and I married, we got a lower rent than market because I'm pretty handy and can handle most smaller projects that come up. Our deal was that anything that could be fixed below an agreed-upon dollar amount we'd handle and only contact the landlord for the big stuff. He was great, and we lived there for several years until we were able to buy a home of our own.
Don't take this the wrong way but this is what one expects from a true communist/socialist society where everyone shares equally regardless of contribution or success. If your tree bears fruit because others have helped to tend and fertilize it, they deserve to share the benefit that exceeds your own contribution. This idea is pure anticapitalist where personal wealth accumulation takes priority above all else.
Don't take this wrong? How else could it be taken lol

My great Aunt and her parents lived in the same rented house for all of their lives. They rented from a private landlord. When the landlord paid off the mortgage for the house he gifted it to my Aunt and her parents as they'd essentially paid the mortgage as they'd lived in the property for the entirety of the mortgage. It was an incredibly generous act. My Aunt cared for her parents all her life and didn't marry or have kids. She eventually passed away in 2010 and willed the property to my grandma who sold it as she couldn't cope with a house and had moved from her home town to be closer to my dad and family.
Nice to read a good story about a landlord for once. Usually it's either they're ripping off tenants or doing creepy things in tenants' apartments while they aren't home.
I love to hear such positive uplifting stories like this. The state of the world is so crazy , and I love that people are learning that it's important to treat each other kindly
