Ohmigoodness. Don’t even get us started with all the problems in women’s clothing. If you ever stroll through the aisles of female fashion, you’ll know what nuisances I’m talking about: from the fact that a lot of fashion is plainly non-functional, to a lack of clothing for women with big busts, the absence of pockets, inconsistent sizing, and pink tax, to name just a few.
So no wonder when someone asked women “What’s something about clothing that irritates you?” they had too many things to get off their chest. Let’s see some of the most eye-opening responses right below, which will surely change the way you think about clothing marketed for women, which is often nowhere near as pretty as the ads would like us to believe.

Buttons over my prodigious breasts that never stay closed, collars on shirts, leggings that ride down, things that claim to not roll, but ALWAYS do, fussy extraneous details (stop putting button tabs on sleeves. Just no.),bras with lots of fkn lace details. Give us real, comfortable, sturdy bras, not fluff for the male gaze, Jean's that fit you bum, but leave a 10in gap at the waist. Why?
You have a choice on what kind of bra to get though. They have lacy/sexy bras, and there are also t-shirt bras, seamless bras, full coverage type bras...etc. they're out there, there are choices. MY biggest complaint on bras is price! Why do they gotta be soooo stupid expensive?!
If you’re very small or large in the chest you don’t have many choices.
Load More Replies...The last 4! bra's I bought all had the underwire sticking out after 2 or 3 washes. 2 of those were very expensive and from so-called "good quality" brands. Of course the return period is gone by the thime that happens. (I at least don't wear the same bra every day, takes some time for they are in the wear/wash rotation). They should add in some sort of label that washes out after an x-a,ount of washes so you can get a refund on the broken bra that was purchased months ago but only worn a handful of times
Load More Replies...Unpopular opinion allert: I like pretty bras, come on.... Having the combination of big cups + smaller chest, I couldn't have much choices all my life, and in recent years, I'm finally finding ones that fit me and are cute. It's not for the male gaze. Guys really don't care mostly. It's for the buyer. The aesthetics are there to make you notice the product, with the manufacturer's hope that it would stand out. Bras are no exception to this.
I agree, generally guys don't notice the frilly underwear. I, however, do! and like it a lot ^^ (on myself I mean)
Load More Replies...Agree! I like simple, sporty style, and lately I have troubles to find it. Simple one color sweater, simple skirt, dress, with no any decorations, I don't want buttons on sleeves, I don't want frilly things, I don't want lace patches, or rhinestones, no weird shapes... just simple quality fabrics, nice shaping and minimalistic design.
I've always assumed the lace details were actually an inexpensive way to conceal poor-quality seams.
But I like button tabs on sleeves. It is nice to have the option to roll them up if I want to... purely decorative ones can up and die, but the functional ones can stay.
Or they fit your waist and are super baggy in the butt and legs. Those are the options.
Everytime I find a pair of jeans that fit great the waist is always just tight enough to make it uncomfortable.
Load More Replies...Bored Panda reached out to Redditor u/TheRightEquilibrium and author of this thread on r/AskWomen who got women sharing what things about womenswear they dislike the most. The Redditor told us that he’s actually starting his own clothing brand and he needed to get a feel on how people view clothes.
“I also wanted to make the brand known in different communities so that way they get to know me and I can create my own community from the connections I’m making,” said u/TheRightEquilibrium. “The question itself came super late at night kinda randomly now that I think about it, I had asked multiple subreddits the same question hoping to get a broader range of answers and r/AskWomen was the most engaging.”
The author was very surprised with the great number of responses on the sub, “because I got very little to no replies on other subreddits, especially ones that are centered around fashion.”
No pockets or bad quality pockets.
Fake pockets are worse, like what is the point. Just give us the damn pockets lol.
Load More Replies...A pocket should be able to hold my phone, otherwise it's a crappy pocket
i have a jeans, named "boyfriend style" WITH F*CKING SMALL POCKETS where is your boyfriend style here?! i hate it!!! i actually buy smaller phones to fit them in my pockets wtf
Sewn together pockets, fake pockets, printed pockets, I could go on and on
For me it's an ultimate answer, like 42. Eg. I don't wear dresses. That's because I'm gay. Yeah.. no.. that's because boy's shorts have many convenient pockets.
Not gay, but I buy men's jeans & shorts, plus I got some very nice fleece lined men's pants for winter with zippered cargo pockets on the legs - Wrangler brand, from WalMart. Cost under 30 bucks, and I get the waist size & length I want!

See through shirts. Seriously, I hate that so many shirts in women’s clothing are thin or nearly sheer. I don’t enjoy having to put a tank top under my shirts or having my bra show through.
the fact that I have one "boys" school shirt and the rest "girls" and the "boys" shirt the thread count is higher and the opacity is twice as much on "boys" SCHOOL shirts- I would like to emphasise- SCHOOL. GIRLS 4-16. HAVE TO WEAR SEE-THROUGH SHIRTS. EVERY DAY. AND SCHOOLS WONDER WHY THEY HAVE A HARASSMENT PROBLEM.
yeah, I'm not sure how exactly they can argue this to be logical. Why do boys need a higher thread count in their shirts than girls? If anything, it should be the other way around.
Load More Replies...Or tops designed in such a way that your bra straps don't stay covered. I've ordered so many tops that I can't wear without a cardigan, or that I have to pin shut.
Men's white dress shirts do this too. I always have to wear two shirts. And when out at the jobsite, If I am only wearing one shirt, I get sunburned right though my shirt.
I've bought button down shirts from the men's department, because I find it annoying that women's shirts have thinner fabric for the same price. Honestly, men's button downs are generally far more comfortable.
Inconsistent sizing. Sh**ty fabric. Over-priced.
At one point, I had clothes in my closet ranging from size 7 to size 14! (This is years ago, before they dropped the sizing numbers to silly 0s.)
Load More Replies...This isnt a problem for women only. The only clothes I can buy with confidence that they will fit are socks, and underwear.
But effed up sizing does tend to be more of a woman issue. Men’s clothing (pants at least) is typically measured by waist and height, whereas a woman’s size can vary store to store, because there is no standard size 6 or 14. The stores can make those sizes whatever measurements they’d like. But I do hope you’re able to find a wider variety of clothing you’re confident in! Men should feel good when they dress too.
Load More Replies...i'm a 9 in one brand of jeans and a 17 in another. It makes no sense.
Sh**ty fabric. I mean, T-shirts, you can literally see through them sometimes.
im a guy and i agree because i have this problem too...Jeans brand X = size 28. Jeans brand Y = 32. Jeans brand X different cut = 34....WTAF!
I am 5ft tall (well in shoes..) Trying to find Petite sizes is hard enough, then you add the inconsistent sizing with that and I NEVER have any luck. I have jeans ranging from size 10-18 and I have not lost or gained weight. Grrr
Omg yes, the inconsistencies in sizes is atrocious. Go in one shop I'm one size, go into another and I'm 3 sizes bigger or 2 sizes smaller etc even though all the tags say the same size.
This is what you get when manufacturers send everything to China to be made, and the fabric is cheap and nasty, and the sewing is cheap and nasty. Therefore, the price is cheap and nasty, but the stuff doesn't fit or look good either. Even expensive higher-range clothing is now being manufactured in China. Let's face it - they own us.
Womens' clothing would be better quality if women didn't insist on following the latest stupid trends. Holes in jeans, cold shoulders, THONGS, painful shoes, crop tops, asymmetrical cardigans, sleeves with thumbholes, skinny jeans, too tight everything. This is why designers concentrate on the dumb stuff and not the quality of fabric. Also, women want to buy multiple items every year because they need constant change. So that means they're also unwilling to pay much per item - hence lower quality. And women are also scared of seeing their actual hip and waist sizes - that's why we end up with all these inconsistent "sizes". So a lot of this is due to consumer stupidity. If you really want to change the industry, start a boycott and don't buy ANY clothing for two years. Believe me, every woman in America would survive. But the industry would have to change. And then if someone makes classic, better quality clothing - BUY IT.
Moreover, u/TheRightEquilibrium has noticed just how much more vocal the women are about their problems with clothing. “And they actually seemed to care about the subject,” he said. “I really needed the women’s perspective on this subject because I would’ve never realized how much women struggle with size inconsistencies, having ZERO pockets on pants/skirts, shirts being tacky or crop tops being ill-fitting.”
The Redditor said that “without this information, I would’ve been continuing the same problems that already exist within women’s fashion and I believe the brand would be worse off this way; however, now I know exactly what the issues are and I can help solve and create solutions to those problems.”
Quite literally: scratchy tags. I also don't know why certain kinds of itchy wool clothing are still made.
or super long tags? i have a shirt that had 5 tags in side-seams and each was like 6cm (almost 2") long. wtf?!
The tags mostly exist for regulatory purposes, disclosing materials, location of manufacture and care instructions. I have an issue with things irritating my skin, and I usually remove all but the tiny tag that shows the clothing size in case it ends up at a second-hand store in the future. What I REALLY don't understand are the tags that have extra-scratchy edges, like they went out of their way to make them that way.
Load More Replies...Not just scratchy but unnessessary - 5 pages translations in 10 languages, qr codes etc on clothes for newborns to be worn maybe 1-2 months before it is too small. The baby skin is so tender! Why not put a paper tag that you can take off and leave size and washing instructions only
this happens on men's clothing too, why can't they just print them on the inside of the top/bottom
I don't know who downvoted you, but they're wrong.
Load More Replies...And then you are either left with equally scratchy stubs or you run the risk of making a hole in the garment or unravelling a seam.

Plus size clothes that have too much decoration on them. I don't want to look like a garden.
There should be a variety. I prefer patterned clothes coz they camouflage the bulges much more. All my wobbly bits stand out more in solid colours.
I think that's why a lot of it is patterned, patterns look good...but variety would also be nice.
Load More Replies...Yup, larger doesn't mean wanting to dress like someones grandma's couch.
This is my objection. I like color, but all too often the prints for larger clothing are just cheap and tacky.
Load More Replies...Sometimes I just want a simple sweater or blouse, one color, no lace, no frills, no buttons, no sparkly stones...
ikr!! i never find anything plain and simple, always the stones frills and gilltter..
Load More Replies...also plus size clothes are always either bland work colors like black white and navy, or neon pink or yellow or stuff. i just want a plain purple shirt that can't be used as reflective gear to cross the street.
Amen! I'm sick of the huge flowery prints or the multicolored crap that makes you look like a fricken clown. Solid colors. And stop making short shirts for women. Why can't we have the long shirts like the guys get? And stop using skinny models in catalogs of clothes meant for plus size women!!
Yes! When you reach a certain age or size, you don't want to show off your lower abdomen. Why can't we get coverage, but still have it fitted? And don't even get me started on short cap sleeves on plus size clothing. I don't want my fat arms pinched into teeny weeny sleeves, I want to cover those dang elbows. We need more elbow length and 3/4 length shirts.
Load More Replies...Arm holes that are open all the way to the waist practically. NO ONE has arms that fat. That's the main reason I refuse to wear sleeveless tops or desses.
Unnecessary details on women’s clothing and accessories eg awkward cut-outs, tacky looking non-functional zips and buttons, random “quirky” words on a t-shirt, ugly frills, handbag chains that look out of place… the list goes on! I just want a plain jumper, not a cropped one that has “good vibezzz” in bubble writing on it. Also… we want pockets!
Yes, it's not decorative, it's annoying and uncomfortable and it's difficult to maintain. Simple lines, simple designs, nice materials... for a start.
I once attempted to find a plain red t-shirt. Silly me, so naiive, I tried normal clothing shops time after time and found nothing. Asking the staff just resulted in blank looks or occasional bewildered searches. In the end, I found one in the men's section of an old sports store, of course there was no breast friendly version. Sigh.
Every t shirt in most UK stores (New Look, Peacocks, etc) are all tacky as f**k "be happy" or "J'adore" and I hate it. Most my t shirts now comes from Redbubble, where I can find fun designs AND good, comfortable sizes.
Please, can the ripped jeans things go away? I'm sick of seeing people's knees in full length pants.
Load More Replies...I’m can’t upvote this so I will internally upvote l. YES!!! GIVE IS POCKETS!!!! AND NO MORE WEIRD CONFUSING TEXT!!!! :)
belts are such the worst thing ever... Men get better belts... i literally have to check into the men's section for them. Also shorts.... not every woman is looking to look like Victoria's Secret model... I want comfort. I don't care if it is sexy or something. Give me anything that looks comfy and i can move around without looking like a robot.
“Being a guy, I don’t experience most of the problems that women do, but I do have a wife and I notice she prefers to wear my clothing more than her own, not because she misses me, and mostly due to the fact that it is more comfortable and open.”
u/TheRightEquilibrium also said that while shopping, his “wife looks at both sections for clothes but only the men’s for shirts or hoodies, maybe sometimes sweats. She’s not a fan of crop tops, jeans, or dresses; they're just uncomfortable.”
He continued: “It seems that most of women’s clothing is form-fitting at the waist or arm hole area, but the form the clothing is targeting isn’t a form 80% of women have. It’s like most clothing is aimed for the supermodel look and if you don’t have that type of figure, you’re outta luck, which is why I think most women prefer men’s clothing (mostly T-shirts) because they aren’t clingy/tight.”
Each black piece is a different shade of black.
There is no true black dye. Just the darkest brown or blue or grey they can get.
Load More Replies...And, after you buy them and see them in a different light, some are actually a deep midnight blue. F*****g BLUE, not black.
Pants need to come in more inseams than short, regular and tall. Men can get all sorts on inseams, why can’t women?
Also, shirts need to come in tall and short sizes too. I’m sick of the sleeves and torsos being too short.
Same thing in reverse. Can never find clothes long enough!
Load More Replies...And this is why I wear men's jeans. Men's skinny jeans fit better than any womens jeans I've bought and I can get a waist/inseam size that fits
I'm sick of sleeves that are too tight. I dont have thin arms like pencils. Very annoying!
So agree with this. All pants that are not elastic waisted should have waist and inseams! It would be so much easier to find pants!!! Also with you on more clothing having tall and short. As a petite woman, there are a lot of shirts that make me look like I'm playing dress up in mommy's clothing and it sucks!
Why only pants that are NOT elastic waisted? Elastic waisted pants could come in lengths, too. I agree with the petite shirt problem! Why are sleeves so long?
Load More Replies...I’m 4’9, petit size my a**e, you should see how capris look on me( even petit)
Petites keep getting longer! They used to be short sometimes on me. Now they need to be altered. WTF? That's why I buy petites, so I don't have to take them up! But I guess they think we all wear 4 inch heels now. And you're right, they're only for slightly shorter women, anyway, they need to have more choices than just Petite, Regular and Tall. They need an Ultra Petite and an Ultra Tall.
Load More Replies...This, I'm a size S but that means anything long-sleeves looks ridiculously short on my monkey arms
At least you can still wear them. But if a knit shirt has sleeves that are too long for a shorter woman, there's nothing you can do. They won't stay rolled up. And it's almost impossible to alter knits.
Load More Replies...I feel this in my bones. I have a few hoodies with thumb holes that I can't use. I've started buying men's running clothes for that reason. And don't even get me started on snowboard pants. Try finding a pair with an inseam over 31" inches that isn't XXXL.
Petite shirts are too short for me lengthwise, so I buy regular size, but a lot of times that means the sleeves are too long. Folding the sleeves to fit looks sloppy for work though.
Yes. I'm tall and I have to accept all sleeves are too short, that's it, no to-wrist coverage. Whe dress codes mandate you're covered up, and you can't buy it, you learn to add trim so you look stupid, but at least you're to dress-code standard.
The crop top trend. I’m tired of looking for a shirt that actually covers my belly. I like cute shirts, but i don’t like how revealing they are.
Agreed! As a more modest person, I love cute clothing that makes me feel fashionable, but I'd like to be able to do that without showing half my stomach thanks.
You nailed my argument perfectly. I’ve always been rather modest, and feel really uncomfortable in thin fabrics, tight fits, very short skirts and tops, and really low necklines. Why can’t women have clothing that is made well, made of sturdy fabric, whole and not cut out or up or down, isn’t so trendy that it’ll be out of style in ten minutes, is of a length that allows us to sit down comfortably, has straps that allow us to comfortably wear a bra, is cut generously enough that we can hem it up or down and in or out as we please, and to have pieces that are plain, without logos, ties, or cutouts or shredded sections? I would love to be able to buy some plain, classic cut, never going to go out of style, pieces that I can dress up or down as I please. (BTW, I’m 60, and this has been a problem since I was in my twenties. It seems the fashion industry changed in the 1980s, and went for flimsy disposable clothing, especially for women, instead of quality pieces.)
Load More Replies...I own a motorbike, I am a woman. When I was searching for a new leather jacket, I just found dozends of that were cut so short they'd be above my belly as soon as I stretch my arms forwards. I don't want to freeze my kidneys off people when I'm driving, and I don't want my boy shredded either in case of an accident. Long story short, I decided to buy a man's leather jacket.
THANK YOU!! It takes me forever to find clothes for school!! Looking through the juniors section is all crop tops and booty shorts!!!
Once I spent hours trying to find actual winter jumper, most of them either had tons of unnecessary trinkets, buttons, lace and things I don't want, others were cropped at above belly. I just wanted a normal jumper, was that too much to ask?
Different strokes for different folks. I like crop tops and showing my belly a bit
They're fine! But it's weird when I walk into a department store and that seems to be the only choice on the rack.
Load More Replies...When asked which responses he found the most eye-opening, u/TheRightEquilibrium said: “There was a comment about how clothing for women isn’t to be comfortable but it’s made so the women can be looked at, which I agree with, which is super strange and kinda rude. Also, what’s up with the no pockets thing? Just add pockets! There are a few other things, but then I’ll just be ranting,” he added.
Branding. They ask customers to become walking billboards with giant their logos and unfortunately most buyers happily oblige.
Exept for sports clothes which seem to all have some kind of logo on them, I refuse to wear anything casual that has the brand on it. So tacky.
The only thing I wear with a logo is band t shirts. I'm not paying to advertise your products and I don't care what other people think.
Yeah. Me too. Bands or contents (cartoon characters, to be more specific). However, I still wouldn't wear one of those "MARVEL" logo clothing, but I DO wear an actual Spiderman T-shirt, with the character printed on it, and I will gladly wear more of the artsy Marvel stuff.
Load More Replies...I avoid all products with branding, they want me to advertise for them , pay me.
I won't be a walking billboard for any company, and I won't advertise a car dealership on my car. If they want me to advertise for them, they should pay me.
As my mother said, "They're not wearing my name, why should I wear theirs?
dresses where you can't wear a bra, like backless ones. They know big women will need to wear a bra, so why design a dress that we can't wear a bra!
No need to body shame when making a point. Some women just have a flat skinny body and there is nothing wrong with that
Load More Replies...As a straight sized women I still don't like to go bra less, it feels weird
I don't know what it means straight sized, is it on the smaller side? If yes then me too. But I don't like to feel my breasts bounce painfully when I walk a bit faster, or go up and down sidewalks. Ouch. I feel gravity pulling in every step. Also, I'd rather not show nipples to people I'm not 100% comfortable with. But at home I'm lucky to be fine braless.
Load More Replies...Because some women dont want to wear a bra. Because bra's are also available in backless, halter and racerback for these kinds of dresses. Because they are super combfortable to lounge in and make exceptional beach/poolside dresses for over swimmers. There are lots of reasons some dresses are designed like this. If it doesnt suit you, dont buy it - its not like these are the ONLY dresses available.
Agree.. I train a lot, love my back and love showing it with this kind of dressess
Load More Replies...Because some of enjoy wearing those dresses? It's a fact that not all styles will look good on everyone, and it's fine. Pick a flattering style and you're good to go.
It doesn't need to be flattering. If you like it, wear it. If someone doesn't like it, who cares. You have to wear it not them.
Load More Replies...Even as a teen beanpole, i never ever wanted to not wear a bra. Ever. So this bugged me even when a skinny kid, let alone now.
I wish sizes would be consistent across brands! I hate having to remember what size of jeans I wear at American Eagle and then again at Hollister.
Why are there so variants in sizing? 10, 12, 14; s, m, l; 50, 60, 70; 3, 4, 5; 32, 33, 34. Grrr!
I bought 3 pairs of short of the same brand, style and size in different colors because the one I tried on fit beautifully. The other two had smaller waist sizes, with one being even smaller. GAH!!!!!
We also talked to Carry Somers, the founder and global operations director at Fashion Revolution, who shared some very important insights on the flaws of womenswear, which turn out to be much bigger than simply the lack of pockets. “The global fashion industry relies upon the exploitation of natural resources and people working across its supply chain, producing more clothes than people need and manipulating them into overconsuming clothing at increasingly faster rates,” Carry said when asked about the current state of the clothing industry.
When pants or shorts fit your legs but not your waist.
Opposite for me. Fit my waist but are wayy too short length-wise
Same here. I'm relatively tall with long legs, and when I went pants shopping the other day, literally anything that fit my leg length was huge around my waist. It's why I love wearing jeans so much, I guess.
Load More Replies...I have an issue with boots. They fit my feet but not my calves so I can't wear them.
I have never ever found pants that fitted both for my waist AND hip. I hate belts but I need to wear it all my life. :/
Similar issues for guys, fits on waist, but can barely walk because the legs are for stick people
Amen! Also, manufacturers believe that larger-size women automatically have larger breasts and larger butts. I hate shopping for clothing.
Clothing for heavy physical work. I choose to buy mens clothing, because that was actually designed for hard work outside in all kinds of weather. The option for women was only designed to look sexy, too tight to properly move or lift or work.
Exactly, if you can afford it. Otherwise, buy mens.
Load More Replies...Oh, frickin' tell me about it. I'm a farmer so my work attire takes a beating and in the last 10 years or so have found precisely one pair of adequately sturdy work gloves that fit, and those were men's that I think had just come up small. My hands aren't even that small! As to work clothes/PPE, I gave up years ago and like OP just wear menswear, with the legs rolled up etc.
We don't always want to look hot. Sometimes we need clothes that we can work in
not clothing related, but pink tools!... pink hammer, pink drill, pink screwdriver... really?!
To be fair, I'd love to have a Hello Kitty tool set. =)
Load More Replies...Yep, I do a physical outside job and this is so true. Also women’s shorts tend to be a lot shorter than men’s shorts.
Yes! We were recently allowed to wear shorts at work, but they had to be knee length. Couldn't find ANYTHING in my town. Finally went to the men's department. Found the best pair of shorts I've ever owned: dressy looking black, comfortable, looser but fits perfect around the waist, wicks away sweat and has a ton of handy pockets!!!
Load More Replies...Carhartt, Duluth, Columbia…they’re good though expensive. I’m not in heavy industry, but I found Red Kap to be decent for the price (though I’ve had to fix a few buttons and ask my mom to reinforce some seams)
Athletic clothing is always bright colors or bizarre patterns. I love dark neutral colors, but they're so hard to find in woman's options. Men's gear doesn't fit me
I have the opposite problem - 99% of men's athletic gear is black, but I'd like brighter colors so I'm not so invisible on the biking/hiking trail at dusk or in the rain. I want cyclists to be able to see me, and as a cyclist, I *hate* people wearing all black at night... I don't want to blind people on the trail with my bright headlight, but also it's very hard to see someone dressed in head-to-toe black without my headlight on high.
as someone who runs early in the morning, i totally agree!
Load More Replies...Athletic wear for plus size people is also hard to find. Especially budget friendly.
yes! goddamnit i want to lose weight without buying gear/clothes for a fortune and not looking like an neon-sign aswell.
Load More Replies...Yes!... T_T Can Lidl please not only offer pink and purple sneakers in my size?? And ok, now major store brands: please please is a minimalistic subdued color tone too much to ask? We honestly don't all love ultra feminine colors... You know, the same color palette and clean styles (no frou frou) as men as an option, for women bodies...
All my athletic gear is dark (black with some grey sometimes) and not hard to find 🤷
Same. I’m wearing an all-black workout outfit right now because the shirt and pants *weren’t* available in any other colors, but they’re nice and made in Canada so I bought them.
Load More Replies...Athletic clothing tends to be of dry materials, which I understand, because of sweat. But I really cannot touch most of the synthetic fabrics because they're so dry and I can't stand that feeling on my skin. If I search really well, I can still find some good quality fabric, or just simple cotton, which, surprisingly, requires lots of digging as well.
Ah yes and the new style seems to be matching ultra tight pastel gym clothes, I think it's from gymshark
This seems silly. I see plenty of work women’s work out clothes in gray, black, etc
Agreed. When I try to use new walking boots and I go to women's section, there's only pink/purple/grey with pink or purple/sometimes baby blue. I've kept buing the same shoes for years now (the only ones in moss green and earthy beige), but I am scared one day they will stop making them!
“Injustices are endemic because supply chains are fragmented and opaque, and because some people have great power while others have very little, and because the fashion industry rewards economic growth and profit above all else.”
Carry continued: “We also need to recognize the interdependence of human rights and the rights of nature, because garment workers’ right to a healthy environment depends on the health of our planet. With garment production predicted to grow by 81% by 2030, there is ever-growing demand for agricultural land to produce cotton, viscose, wool, rubber, and other natural fibers.”
My problem is in bottoms. I can either fit them to my waist and they are too tight around my thighs or I can go up a size and they are comfortable around my thighs but too big around my waist. If I wear a belt then they bunch up funny around my crotch area.
I demand for this term to be universally accepted.
Load More Replies...And no jeans for women with larger hips and larger bottom. I have to buy large sizes, then shorten the length and wear belts. Just create jeans that can fit us who have some curves.
I get so upset and frustrated shopping for clothes. I have a hard time finding ANYTHING that fits right. I usually end up feeling so fat and ugly I have a panic attack and have to give up. I end up wearing the clothes I do have until I have holes not ok to wear in public, then go online to find clothes. I am not that tall, but I have a 34"-36" inseam (depending on cut and brand). A bit of a mom bod after 3 kids, I am XL in boobs, L in waist, XL to 2XL (depending on time of the month) in butt and tummy. The small amount of retail stores in my town apparently believe if you're fat you must be short, and if you're tall you must be thin. It stresses me out so much. Don't get me started on pockets....
And then there's weridos like me: in US sizes, I have a M bust, XL waist, and XS hips/thighs... and 36" inseam. So off-the-rack pants have to fit my "giant" waist, but then my ankles are cold and I look like I'm wearing those old timey jodhpurs.
I love to wear denim jeans. https://www.topsandbottomsusa.com/collections/moose-knuckles
I wish more companies would tell you the height of their models on their websites. The amount of dresses I've bought that show as being knee length, so I've thought it would probably come to mid thigh on me, and I've bought it and it doesn't even cover my crotch! It's like the models must be 5' or something. Shein tell you the height of their models and it makes it so much easier to know how long it will be for me. And as others have said, inconsistent sizing.
I wish more companies would just tell you how long the dang dress is!! The ruler was designed for a reason people, use it.
Don't they ? Most catalogues and online shops I have bought from had the length of dress, skirts and trousers. Then again I don't buy online that often anymore.
Load More Replies...I wish companies would use "regular" people, not just super skinny two-dimensional models ughh
Wow....the amount of people who call us thin people irregular and not realist is insulting....some of are just naturally thing, Patricia....
Load More Replies...Yes, just put the actual measurement of the clothing item, inches and cm. Enough with stupid meaningless M, S, XXXXXXXL etc, or small, medium, long, short, knee-high, slim etc - these words mean nothing on the picture you show.
Especially Asian size S, M, L. Their Large is a US Small
Load More Replies...Trust me, no one uses 5' fit models - if they did, my clothes would look a lot better.
I wish they would show the same piece on three different models with 3 different sizes/body types. Providing measurements only goes so far. I've ordered plenty of things that technically fit me, but they just weren't flattering on my pear-shaped body.
Size isn’t helpful if you don’t also have height & weight. Sizes are not consistent- with weight & height & size it’s easier to gauge what your size may be. Also having someone in a size 2 & same clothes on a size 10 to see how it looks on different bodies
Load More Replies...I wish companies would tell you how long dresses and pants are. Having the model heights would also be a nice frame of reference, but since I'm 4'10" they would all be way taller than me anyway...
In some website (in France), the size (height and weight) is written ! taille-610...35e9ed.png
Kirkland does this with their clothes Which is why Costco is awesome
Most pants are ankle length. Can I just have some normal freaking pants? Why are crop tops expensive if it’s less material? Same with shorts. Why did my shorts cost the same as my pants?! Why is athletic wear so tacky? I’m finding a lot of tops are short. I have a short torso so it’s not a good look. Shirts that aren’t tagless.
I don't like wearing ankle length pants too but these days it's becoming hard and hard to find non ankle length pants (especially jeans).
yeah ankle length pants make me feel like they're too short and just give me bad vibes
Load More Replies...There's always exceptions, but the general rule for both men and women for regular pants is 1" above the floor, i.e. 1" of shoe heel visible.
Load More Replies...Simple - because crop tops are all the trend, hence vain people will bow down to trend and buy these clothes, hence bigger profit. It is ALL about money!
And that ankle length is for someone no taller than 5'4". So even when they're not supposed to be ankle-length, they end up being so for those of us a couple-few inches taller. Ankle length often are capri length for us.
i buy cropped pants so they will look normal length on me. i'm too short.
Ankle length pants fit my stubs perfectly at my break. Hub's inseam is even shorter, but Land's End does custom hemming - but only for their men's pants.
It’s no secret that the clothing industry is one of the biggest pollutants of microplastics and microfibers, both plastic and cellulosic-based, on our planet. Not only are they “hugely damaging to the marine environment and wildlife, but they are also impacting human health through the chemicals they harbor that leach into the surrounding environment, including air, water, food, or body tissues.”
“The textile industry uses over 15,000 different chemicals during the manufacturing process. Currently, we have little way of knowing what chemicals are, or aren’t, allowed into our clothing. Fertility rates are decreasing 1% a year globally due to endocrine-disrupting chemicals, with the average person in their 20s having the fertility their grandmother had in their 40s,” Carry said about the grim reality of fast fashion.
Carry concluded that those at Fashion Revolution believe that “the fashion industry’s problems are bigger than any one company’s actions, and bigger than just the fast fashion sector. It’s systemic failure. This is why we are actively working to avoid binary arguments and bring a higher degree of nuance to these conversations."
Bras and swimwear without pads.
Clothes with fake pockets
Cheap fabric. Fabric that needs to be ironed.
Stuff that doesn't fit even though you bought the same size.
Finding good fitting pants is a struggle for me. I have IBS and hate tight fitting pants. It needs to sit a bit loose on my tummy. But if it is comfortable around my tummy it's too loose on my butt. Leggings are great, but I can't always wear leggings, especially at work.
That clothes for oversized women are always so damn ugly and unflattering. Luckily I have a great body and don't need to shop oversized clothing. But no one can tell me that those women are happy with the choices they have. Just because they are overweight doesn't mean that they don't have any taste. What the hell are all those ugly patterns?!
"Bras and swimwear without pads..." Other way around please! Nothing is as gross as getting out of the water and having to walk around with those soggy pads in your bikini top. Also; I get that some people want an extra layer between their boobs and the world, I however don't like to wear all that extra stuffing around my body. People have to accept what other people choose to wear, whether those are bras with or without padding :)
So it should be like this (?): all bras have removable pads.
Load More Replies...The plus size thing: I am plus sized, and some years ago one of my friends got married, so I needed something pretty to wear. It was totally impossible. Even on a website for plus sized clothing. Backless tops, tops with illusion necklines. I am fat, I have boobs, I NEED to wear a bra. Who the hell who is a european size 56 does not neeed a bra?
THIS!!! I bought a pair of pants, in store, and they fit great. Loved them, but the store had limited colors. Went online, bought the EXACT SAME STYLE/SIZE, only in a different color. Doesn't fit at all. It's like they don't even keep the size the same for the same brand/style! Oh, and pockets!!!
I've had a similar experience. I bought pants that fit loose, which is my preference. I can take them off without undoing the button and zipper. I bought a second pair in the same size & style in a different color and can't zip them up they're so tight.
Load More Replies..."Luckily I have a great body and don't need to shop oversized clothing"
What is with the fake pockets, tell me! How many posts online through the years scream (literally) we want pockets! Jeez, some companies need to learn to read
Them stretching out after 2 uses.
Or falling apart. Or fraying. Or shrinking weirdly with the first wash—-even though you followed the washing and drying instructions to a T.
I get that some might be low quality... but regardless you shouldn't throw knitted garments in the washer, take care of your clothes no matter the quality
OMFG they’re all winter nightshirt now 🤣🤣 or I’ve cut them up into cleaning rags
Women's graphic tees being so tacky
Yes!! Particularly band t's, so often bands put a different design on their women's fit shirts and when they do its always crappier. I want the same shirt design as men, I just would like to have some that aren't oversized because I have to buy men's to get the good design!!!
I always buy men's band shirts. Design is usually the same as women's, but they're more comfortable.
Load More Replies...There's nothing tacky about a vintage look Journey band tee. Bad choice for the pic, but I assume the author of this thread does not even know who Journey is.
AHHHH YESSSS! Can we PLEASE discuss the graphic t’s situation for women?! I have to buy men’s graphic t’s because they’re just so awesome while the ones for women are lacking severely, I’m talking like stuck in the 60s/70s lacking. I like to game, write code and create 3D graphics a company logo or sassy saying just isn’t my idea of a graphic t.
Let me add one. Branded sports team clothing for women that's not in the team colors, but freakin' pink. No! I'm a Bruins fan; I want yellow and black, not pink.
I always buy men's band t-shirts because the designs are better, and they're longer.
A large chunk of my everyday clothing consists of graphic tees, which are either unisex or men's. Threadless is one of several brands that avoid this problem.
Ugh, ross and dds shirts. I see: SKIN TIGHT, NEON PINK SHIRTS WITH A PICTURE OF A RANDOM LADY WITH SEQUIJS STUCK ON THE PICTURE.
I wish there would be clothing for curvy people. I’m in between an XXS and a M.
Blouses for different cup sizes, so you don't kill your client with your button in a meeting because you have to take a deep breath
I've given up entirely on button up shirts. I CAN NOT find any that don't gap at my chest without being absurdly baggy everywhere else.
Load More Replies...Yes. Curves are usually not taken into account. I often wear baggy, because clothes for my length (when I find them) are too tight. There definitely should be more sizing options, that take into account the width and length sizes (and if possible the curviness level) of our body. Not just XS, S, M, L, XL, and so on.
2XL shirts with tight upper sleeves! You have to grade the sleeves up along with the bodice, idiots! Also short sleeved shirts that are practically sleeveless. Short sleeves should be halfway to the elbow.
This is why a tailor is your best friend. Clothing can not be produced to fit every individual body out there.
So, just forget people who can't afford bespoke couture?
Load More Replies...Better if they just put the actual sizes on the labels. Ridiculous to think that I have tshirts that look the same, yet one says XXXL, the other one says M! I know my measurements and I'd prefer these numbers on labels instead of utterly meaningless letters
Everything on curvy looks like a sack because you can´t buy a dress shirt according to your bra cup.
I have huge boobs and mostly everything that has a seam or a belt that is supposed to go under the breast ends up being on about the height of nipples. This makes finding a good fit even on a bigger number nearly impossible.
Load More Replies...I have a weird shape, some blouses do not stretch, so I have to buy a large(I’m between sm-med)
Also I noticed that shops often offer less variety in certain products like padded bike shorts because apparently women don't want to wear them
I don’t understand that either. If you ride a bike long enough, and you GREATLY appreciate that padding. Plus, the sizing for bike shorts! I’m a medium-sized person, and had to buy XL bike shorts, just to be able to get them on!
Can we talk shoes? I love shoes, but my feet are wide. Not just a teeny bit, go up another size and it will take are of it, wide. Full on, I wear a 6 EE wide. BUT, fashionable, pretty shoes don't come in wide, never mind extra wide. It is a struggle to find nice shoes. I'd be willing to pay quite a bit for them, but they don't exist. I know many people with this same issue. Apparently people with wide feet are supposed to be happy with Grandma shoes and leave the pretty shoes to the people with "medium" width feet.
same... My feet became wider with age and on top of that my finger dislocated. Wearing regular french/german shoes are painful even during fitting let alone walking! Thankfully there are plus size lines, or ...orthopedic ugly shoes..
Load More Replies...Also, can we have multiple lengths in athletic shorts? I don't want my ass cheeks hanging out but I don't want them to my knees either. I'd like something in between. I need protection from thigh chafing but sometimes it's too hot to wear even capris. Help us out!
Small pockets in jeans are a really irritating thing so I wear Jordan Craig Jeans. Its pockets are size large more than others.
For me it's shorts. Maybe it's just me, but I feel like it's either awkward knee length, or practically underwear.
Wanted to comment this too! Also skirts, almost every skirt I find will barely cover my behind, why just why
Load More Replies...I hate too many accessories! It just to make prices of women's clothing and shoes so much higher than those for men. How many times I was searching for winter boots, plain, comfy, warm boots, no 7 inch heels, no 7 zippers, no 10 meter long shoelaces, no silly attachments... same for clothes, at least give us choice, we are not all into clothes that has everything on it, zippers, buttons, laces, frills, fringes, rhinestones... give up on that!
How about “women’s” shirts that are a full three sizes smaller than “unisex” shirts? Bonus points if they’re a “baby doll” fit 🤮🤮
I just assume that unisex means “men’s” because unisex is always too big for me.
Load More Replies...I want to learn how to sew so I can make my own stuff or adjust men's clothing to my body type.
Yeah, that's a good idea. I can't sew well enough to do that, but being able to adjust hems/sleeves has saved me a lot. It's baggy but it covers (or doesn't drag!).
Load More Replies...When my husband needs pants, he walks into a department store, goes in the dressing room with a handful of pants in his size, and buys about half of them. When I need new pants, I try on like 10 different pairs in 3 different sizes. (It takes forever, because they only let you take in a few items at a time, so I have to keep getting dressed again to go out and get more.) None of them fit exactly right, and I end up buying one pair I can only wear with a belt, another I can only wear with a long shirt, and a third pair I can't bend over in. I'm gone all day, and when my husband sees what I bought he says, "Why don't you just buy pants that fit?"
Literally me yesterday. Finding pants that fit is always a challenge.
Load More Replies...normal size and plus size. how about sizes of all kind from 0 (which is still kind of ridiculous, cmon zero, like you are made of air ) to whatever number, let's stop branding a person "normal" and "plus". and even better when you go to the store and you have the special "plus" section, hidden at the back (like the adult section of a video store), where no one can see your fat ugly face.
Athletic clothes only for people who are already fit. If i want to start getting fit, I can't buy any sport clothes! I mean, not even XL for yoga pants, wetsuits, gym shorts or jogging windbreakers.
As I had a girlfriend who suffered from incontinence - there were practically no pants of any kind that wouldn't allow you to see what's underneath - she wore male's pants, then, or skirts that weren't too tight. Every pant made for women is so tight that, in order to keep this out of public, you could just as well wear no pants at all, or a shirt announcing what brand of diaper you have on - and if they weren't too tight, they were too short on the top end, sticking out etc... When shopping, she usually was pissed. Two kinds of pissed.
Like being a middle schooler who just started having periods and all you had were your mom's overnight pads. All pants in your size were tight fitting, so everyone sees the bulge on your backside. Kids can be horrible to each other. Good times /s
Load More Replies...Keep looking. I am short with an above average bust and don't suit cool colours, so I can't just walk into any shop and find something suitable. Trousers from Robel, underwear from Bravissimo (who also do a small range of clothes including shirts in different bra sizes), and a few others. Expensive yes but they last and I feel good, and it's probably better than buying a load of cheap stuff regularly and still feeling like a bundle of rags tied up with ugly string. And everything else from thrift shops!
Auntriarch, I looked up Bravissimo. Thank you thank you thank you !
