Hey Pandas! I’m Shari Eskenas and I’m here to prove that a programming language CAN be taught in a picture book! If you’re new to Python and you don’t want to start off by reading a 200+ page book, then this is the book for you. In my upcoming storybook A Day in Code: Python, you’ll learn the basics of Python as you read a “normal” picture book with full-page illustrations.

But this picture book isn’t exactly “normal”. It tells a story using Python programs that represent situations in the story. Each spread has a Python program on the left page and a full-page illustration on the right page. The illustration depicts the situation described in the code. You’ll learn a new Python concept with each program and code explanation below it.

My goal was to make learning to code be fun and enjoyable in this unique format. I couldn’t think of anything less intimidating than a picture book.

Typical programming books require you to thumb through them, skipping past 40 pages at a time to find your desired code example. Consequently, I thought it would be nice to create a convenient compilation of “fun” code examples. But I didn’t just want to create fun code examples. I wanted to create something more profound than that. I wanted to show that a continuous story could be described with the logic of code.

This book will be in the same format as my first book, A Day in Code, which is written in the C programming language (recently released on Amazon). A Day in Code: Python will have different situations and illustrations than in the first book…but the story will still be about an epic, fun day!

You can pre-order A Day in Code: Python on Kickstarter (it’s a special edition!), which ends Jan. 15th. Check it out in the link below!
