The infamous vet who sparked a backlash after posing with the big game animals he shot, died while hunting birds in Italy. 55-year-old Luciano Ponzetto had a veterinary clinic near Turin. After pictures of him with trophy kills emerged on social media (think lions, leopards and deers) , animal rights activists started a campaign against him. There was even a Facebook page dedicated to the shaming of Luciano Ponzetto. The vet also received some death threats.
When all of this happened a year ago, Luciano Ponzetto defended himself saying that being a vet “is not incompatible with hunting, either morally or professionally”. Italy’s Veterinarians’ Guild was on Ponzetto’s side, stating that “hunting is a hobby regulated by the law, which does not allow us to take measures against him.”
Ponzetto’s last hunting trip proved to be fatal. The vet slipped on the ice and fell 100ft down a rivine while trying to shoot wild birds. An Italian police officer told The Sun: “His body was recovered by helicopter and taken to a local hospital… It looks like he slipped and fell when he was out hunting. He died instantly and there was nothing that could be done.”

Freud actually had a theory that people who went into those types of seemingly altruistic professions - doctors, vets - actually had an underlying desire to maim and cut, which they satisfied in an acceptable way through their profession. The animals hunted are selected because they have health issues and have a very poor quality of life. Once the Safari is completed, the meat is then given to the people of the surrounding villages to... wait for it... feed the people! Lions, tigers, elephants, giraffes... Other parts are used to make tools and jewelry. Some are even used for traditional religious ceremonies. Money raised are often used to buy school supplies or to fulfill other needs in the community. Research folks.

I said that, in punishing wrongdoers, the reaction of their relatives is not relevant. But, rather than sharing your anthropocentrism, yes, I do feel that destroying the natural world is as bad as killing other humans. It IS killing humans in the long run. Hunters vary in motives. Some are better than others. But I can say that a HUGE amount of animal conservation is paid for by hunters.

It is stories like this that make me say that I am an agnostic, not an atheist. Once in a while, karma does its thing and justice is done. Is it random chance, or is there a just Deity at work. It matters not. The unjust occasionally do get their just desserts.

Cecil was lured off the sanctuary at night, shot via the light of the truck's headlights, was wounded, and the next day was tracked so that Dentist Walter Palmer could finish him off.

I agree to a certain extent - his death should not be taken so lightly. On the other hand, he shot and killed a lion and posed with it in a picture; making light of it's death. It wasn't like someone murdered him, he fell to his death while on another hunting trip, his OWN damn fault. Sorry for being cliche, but karma is a bitch.

I hope someone puts a stop to trophy hunting, it makes me feel sick reading this. He's not the only man who hunts animals for a hobby... although I wish it was the case so that some cruelty could be stopped. On another note maybe he should of paid more attention to the danger of his environment rather than his prey
