Temperatures In Arizona Are So High Right Now That People Are Posting Pics Of Things Melting
The temperature in Pheonix has almost reached a record-breaking 122 °F (50 °C) recorded on June 26, 1990, and it's becoming harder and harder to escape the insane heat. The flights are being cancelled, and things are literally melting.
Today it's up to 116 °F (47 °C), and 168 °F (76°C) on the concrete. To illustrate just how bad the situation is we have collected some shocking images of things melting in Arizona.

Check out last week's Las Vegas Weather underground. 117 F. and I think it was even hotter. It's cooled down this week to between 103 and 108 F. We're almost always higher than Arizona.

Lived there one summer, 6 am, in the warm but not heated pool , with a first cup of coffee in my shorties, cleaning out what Monsoon blew and threw in the night before. The Sun rises and I stay in the shade of the pool until I am finished so the children can wake up to clean water.

I live in Dubai where temperatures easily reach 50 degrees Celsius. I've never seen anything melt like that

Zena, Dubai is at sea level, and Phoenix Arizona is 1,086 ft (331 m) higher, which means it has a less normal dense atmosphere. The denser the atmosphere, the more light is reflected back into space. In Phoenix morning and afternoon light can be more easily 'refracted', or concentrated by the sun's rays. This is less a problem at sea level where the atmosphere is denser. You can accomplish the same thing by using an automobile's glass, or a magnifying glass.

Phoenix is a very big city, lots of concrete and asphalt that soaks up the heat. As a southern neighbor of Phoenix, we are usually a little cooler in temps, but still have had our share of very hot days. We learn to adjust to the heat by staying indoors and running our air conditioners when we absolutely have to. I can handle the heat up to 100 degrees, anything over 100 feels like an oven when you first open the door.

As an Arizona native we were tough to respect the heat. after all we live in a desert. What fool would install plastic outside in this environment? 40 years ago we hit 134 and all the streets melted, auto tires were exploding, and yes even the biggest jet planes could not fly.

I'm in Mesa, AZ and I tell ya this time of year I am sooooo thankful that A/C exists. It's hell on electrical bill but that and plenty of water for me and my cat and we're alright.

The mailbox looks like it didn't melt completely, just weaken and the bending moment caused by the mailbox caused the bend we see. I don't think the garbage can was due to just the 50C temps. The melting is too localized for that. Perhaps a mirror or something was intensifying the heat. Another possibility (the one I am inclined to believe) is that someone put something burning inside. I'd also expect some of the items, particularly the juice box and beer case, to exhibit some damage.

Hello, I live here in Phoenix and YES it's HOT, it's a dry heat so 122' is like 106' in the east with humidity. We are night owls, we do grocery shopping at midnight (thank god walmart is open 24/7 and people do their daily runs at 11pm at night. 4am is like 89' but we drink lots of water and survive. Lots of tires are blown and car batteries dies every year to every other year due to the heat. As a 16yr Michigan resident, I would still after 9 yrs living here rather be here in the heat paying 300.00 a month for a/c for 3 months then 5-600.00 a month for heat for 5 months. it's just a adjustment or we move out and I see more and more ppl moving from the snow to here especially see every month for my 9 yrs here michigan plates all the time. it's funny we have a future here as we don't in michigan. I dont known nothing about out of the usa this is just my experience here.

Oh for cripes sake, we here in NV. especially down here in Green Valley(Henderson) are at 117 regularly now. We are lucky if the asphalt doesn't melt beneath our feet.

When I was a kid I used to dig my toes into the hot melty asphalt they gets used to repair cracks because that totally does get melty in Las Vegas summers, and you can pull it like taffy.

The heat is the one thing that killed living in Arizona for me--maybe accept for living up in the hills in Prescott. Imagine what is going to happen with climate change when the temperatures rise to 150 degrees.

Who in Mesa puts up a plastic mailbox? ROFL...I'm dying here. Yes, it gets hot. I keep my chocolate chips in the freezer just so they don't partially melt in the pantry. But I'd still rather deal with this for a short period of time than shovel snow all Winter. #choices

Funny I was actually there on that June 26th 1990 112 degree record day. I flew in the night before arriving at midnight (when it was 90 degrees) to drive a friend's car back to L.A. as she was leaving Phoenix. It was actually 118 in downtown Phoenix but it was 122 at a gas station about 5 miles outside downtown. Funny thing is? It was so dry it didn't feel as bad as 95 degree heat with humidity that I've seen right in L.A. It is crazy that the air is too thin at ground level to provide lift for planes at that temperature.

I live here in Phoenix, I've never tried to bake cookies in the car window, but I'm sure you can. It's hot, but because you get used to 95 at midnight it just doesn't seem that hot. I was out today, it's 116, would I want to stay out there for any length of time? No, but if you get in the swimming pool, you actually feel chilly when you get out. I would rather have the hot of Phoenix in the summer than the cold of the northern states in the winter.

The very first picture is 100% false. I live 4 houses away from this home and upon seeing this photos, wanted to see if it was real and it is not. There is no smaller wall that is melting by this home.

Have lived in Phoenix for 10 years now after 40 years in NY. Humidity in NY is FAR worse than the hotter dry heat here. Yes, of course, you have to be smart - just like one must be during NY winters. Except you don't have to shovel sunshine! I walk my dog at night and we just went out for a potty break at 4:00 pm (118 F) and it's ok in the shade. Bought those booties for my pup too but they're too small. Yes, the water comes out hot - I cuddle with ice and wear wet scarves (so nice, dry fast). For 3/4 of the year the weather here is amazing. I miss the varying verdant green of cooler climes and I miss snow but it's awesome me here...

Today here, in Bulgaria, was 40 degrees and it was quite normal. If you leave a car outside, probably in the end of the day you will have the perfect dinner, but we don't have a "melting" problems.

We say that, but now that I've lived somewhere that gets hot AND humid I can say that is an absolute lie we tell ourselves. 100+ with humidity is worse than 115 without it. The humidity makes heat miserable. It doesn't matter now because I moved again and Michigan will never be as hot as Texas or Las Vegas but would absolutely take the South West's dry heat over hot and humid.

this is every summer in the part of Australia where i live, so i feel for you. Drink plenty of water, stay in the shade, Slip, Slop, Slap, look out for the elderly, the young and the ill, be kind to your four legged friends DO NOT LEAVE BELONGINGS, PETS OR CHILDREN IN THE CAR EVEN WITH THE WINDOW DOWN!!!!. HEHEHEHE, sorry dudes but I live in Australia, even in Sydney we have 3 or 4 days over 45 cent, we just laugh it off. I lived through a 52 degree centigrade day a few years ago.

I was in high school at gilbert high when it hit 122F in phoenix...its a dry heat, but when it gets that hot, dry heat means nothing!

We say that, but now that I've lived somewhere that gets hot AND humid I can say that is an absolute lie we tell ourselves. 100+ with humidity is worse than 115 without it. The humidity makes heat miserable. It doesn't matter now because I moved again and Michigan will never be as hot as Texas or Las Vegas but would absolutely take the South West's dry heat over hot and humid.

I don't know how a human can survive is such an atmosphere! In NYC, I feel like I'm being tortured when it reaches 80. I am definitely a winter person!

this is every summer in the part of Australia where i live, so i feel for you. Drink plenty of water, stay in the shade, Slip, Slop, Slap, look out for the elderly, the young and the ill, be kind to your four legged friends DO NOT LEAVE BELONGINGS, PETS OR CHILDREN IN THE CAR EVEN WITH THE WINDOW DOWN!!!!. Glad I live in Tucson, about 120 miles SE of Phoenix...Tucson is the "cooler" city by around 5 degrees.. still hot as hell though

Here in Argentina there is a province where temperature reaches up to 50C. Jajaja so you don't really know what hell is if you've never been in Santiago Del Estero or Santa Fe province. We're in winter now but temperature was 30 today!. Weather is crazyyyyy. Ja
