The temperature in Pheonix has almost reached a record-breaking 122 °F (50 °C) recorded on June 26, 1990, and it's becoming harder and harder to escape the insane heat. The flights are being cancelled, and things are literally melting.

Today it's up to 116 °F (47 °C), and 168 °F (76°C) on the concrete. To illustrate just how bad the situation is we have collected some shocking images of things melting in Arizona.

Do you live there? Tells us how you deal with such high temperatures.

They have cancelled or postponed flights in Palm Springs, CA also, same reason. It's not all that uncommon in Palm Springs.

Air is a fluid, and it's density fluctuates with temperature. The higher the temperature is, lower the air density.

Those temperatures are common in Middle East countries. Never heard of them cancelling flights because of that.

It all comes down to the fuel systems, just like trucks their diesel engines don't like hot air, and just like me I cannot stand heat above 15 degrees C, live in the UK.

That's not true at all, jet turbine engines have to actually heat the air up very high before to fuel is even injected, this is done with compression to around 200c

Las Vegas McCarran airport temps always seem to be suspiciously cooler than the rest of the valley. Got to keep the planes in the air

Snowbirds are those who live in the southwest in the winter and return to the north during summer. They're even here right now.

Also the tilt of the Earth, the state of the atmosphere, the amount of heat-capturing concrete that's been poured over the desert in the previous decades, etc.

ONE MODEL PLANE, a small stretched corporate jet that is not rated to fly in temps exceeding 118 degrees because it doesn't have sufficient lift characteristics to fly in such hot, thin air. No other plane is grounded, especially planes like the one seen in the pic....

It may have just fallen it, or it may have been drying out and needed to re-hydrate its book lungs.
