Brit here. Yeah, but no. When we have a Conservative government, they try to make official school history books like the top figure. But our actual historians produce history books more like the lower picture. I'm reading one at the moment. It's extremely depressing - not least because I happen to know that the British empire's treatment of its subjects was nothing like as bad as it got. So: other nations handed out *even worse* unspeakable horror than the stuff I'm learning about being committed by our lot. Just Say No to Imperialism.

They were ok with sustaining increased taxation in exchange to much needed social reforms. The seeds of the revolutions started only after this attempt at negotiation was rejected.

Not quite. In the 1600s, it was more the Far East and transatlantic colonies that Europe got most of its stuff from. The transatlantic slave trade was only just getting started and Africa didn't produce much of the things Europeans wanted to buy.
