Before Christians throw their Bibles at me ...check the part where it cautions us about judging others. We're not qualified to judge diddly squat. We can counsel, love, support, protect, assist... so many things... but we do not have a right to interfere with bodily autonomy. Or judge people with different views.

the story of the radium girls from the 1920s. if you don't know, these women worked in factories painting watches for years on end. it was a very good opportunity at the time,paying as much as men's jobs and helped families who were struggling to make ends meet. but the paint used for the watches? it had radium in it to make the watches glow. the women had to lick their paintbrushes to make a fine point on them and they ingested the radium. it got to the point where it was disintegrating their bones and they would literally glow in the dark. and all that time, the companies knew what the radium would do. but they kept it a secret from the public. the girls died after putting up a fight to win their court case and won, but they still died. it honestly makes me sick that this happened.

Side note: that licking of the artist brush is a life-threatening habit. Paint colors often rely on lead. There is no safe level of lead... not one iota. It will destroy you. And it will hurt all the way to the end. Yes, lead banned for children's paints... not adults. It's also not banned in other countries exporting paints to the world. Lost my exceptionally talented cousin to multiple cancers that were attributed to toxic paints... licking her paint brush.

How Christ's teachings were twisted to serve the political power structures - and still are. For just one example, how women were pushed out of their rightful places as part of the early movement, in particular by lying about Mary Magdalene the Apostle and her teachings, which were directly derived from Jesus, so called (His real name was Yeshua). There was no hierarchy, no priests, no concept of Heaven or Hell, or the concept of "a just war" in those early days. Reincarnation was part of the early teachings, rejected centuries later for political reasons. One of the reasons the Romans didn't like these people was their extreme pacifism - which limited the intake of soldiers that the Empire depended on. The versions of Christianity that exist today are travesties of the original teachings. It's like the Pharisees won.

This isn't a "Christ's teachings" thing. This is a religion thing. The only reason religion exists is to have power/control over people. Amazingly enough, religious people willingly give over this power/control and then build themselves the lie (taught to them by their religious leaders) that it's all part of "god's plan", especially when things are going real well.

I graduated high school in 1991 and university in 2000, attending a jr college first. I was taught about it in all 3 places. Though home and the jr college are only about an hour from Tulsa, so that could be why we explored it, but my university was in a totally different State. My kids graduated in the early to mid 2000's and were all 3 taught the history of it as well. Your school needs to revise their curriculum, apparently. Hopefully they did at some point.

Human experiments by the Japanese in Manchuria. What Unit 731 did to Chinese and Russian prisoners was brutal. Worst thing is the American government gave immunity to the perpetrators in exchange for their results. Chief surgeon Shiro Ishi lived a comfortable life after the war, completely untouched; and a great deal of what doctors know about the human body in combat situations are because of such experiments.

The things that happened in asylums. It was pretty much torture for the people who had to go through that, because of anything from autism to PTSD to being queer to even being a woman and not listening to men. It's horrific and scary. I'm glad that I live in a world where it's mostly over, although the stigma is still alive and well.

Look up what the Kennedys did to Rosemary Kennedy. She had seizures and mood swings. They lobotomized her so she wouldn't embarrass them politically. Yes, that's the exact reason. The USA’s unhealthy addiction to the Second Amendment. I understand the concept when it was introduced, there was a need for people to be able to defend themselves… but we are talking about guns that, in the hands of an exceptional shooter, could get 4 rounds off in a minute… I’m not sure automatic weapons that can shoot hundreds of rounds per minute was what the founding fathers had in mind Also it’s the right to “bear ARMS” not “bear GUNS”. A knife, a bow and arrow, a hoe, a pitchfork, anything that could be used as an offensive weapon was considered an armament at the time of writing.

Oh, I've studied this half my life. LBJ did not want the war to end. His family and friends had contracts to supply troops. Beef, for instance, was supposedly contracted to his wife's cattle raising family. Troops in the field never saw it. Agents Orange, Red etc we're also contracts awarded to financial backers. Troops were told it was harmless to humans... use it as insect repellent. There are roughly 400 soldiers *known alive in the 1990s that we just left there. (Last Known Alive list). That entire war was money making scheme by a rich #%^! racist. Much like Desert Storm.

I'm a 68 year old English man, when I was 4 or 5 I would play with my cousin. His mum went off with an American serviceman and lived in the U.S. When he got to about Nineteen he was conscripted into the army and got sent to Vietnam. I was just seventeen or so and pretty immature, still playing football in the park with my mates. The thought of what the young men had to do, is quite horrific and frightening.

This should be higher... it's not just a historic atrocity. Forests, for example: IKEA uses 25% of the world's harvested forests... just one company. Funeral industry destroys 4 million acres of forests every single year... just to make coffins that will be crushed under 2 tons of dirt.

I live in the southern US. My grandmother served during WWII, so she knew what places locally had been used as internment camps. Right down to my own high school. I live in a small city of roughly 20k, but there's a LOOOOOOT of old money here. Like...lots. Davison trucking company is based in this general area. So "being a poor parish" wasn't a viable excuse for why our high school cafeteria had ONLY those rectangular basement windows, eight to nine feet off the ground. Just really try to picture any high school movie scene in a cafeteria without at least one or two big, open to the sunlight windows. Instead, replace it with that grim "fluorescent gray" that underground lighting causes. Only it wasn't underground. It just LOOKED like it from the inside of roughly a third of the school. (Obviously they built on top of the original building, added wings as needed, etc. But the original skeleton has been kept in tact, or had been as of 2001)

Her father made the decision and she had zero say. - Her father did not inform her mother, HIS WIFE (in case that wasn't, y'know, clear), until after the procedure had already taken place. - She was essentially deleted from existence: She was forgotten, hidden away from the rest of the family (esp any kids who might one day get the wild a*s hair to become President). Even today, not many know of her and the Kennedy's are one of the most famous and studied modern families (infamous may be a better word). Just...deleted. For all rights and purposes, it's like she barely even existed at all. - Directly from the performing "surgeon": I think she was awake. She had a MILD (caps mine, obviously) tranquilizer.

At her birth, the attending nurse panicked without doctor presence. She tried holding Mrs. Kennedy's legs together but little Rosie was already in birth canal. That nurse put her hand inside on the baby's emerging head and *held that infant in place almost 2 hours. Lack of oxygen caused intellectual and psychological deficits.

World War One. There was no reason for it aside from national pride and family rivalry (the King of England, the Tsar of Russia, and the Kaiser of Germany were first cousins). The disastrous 1919 Treaty of Paris guaranteed World War Two would happen. We are still living with the impacts of that treaty. As an example, the irrational partitioning of the former Ottoman Empire without regard to the distribution of religious or ethnic groups was a big driver of the chaos in that region today.

There was no reason for WWI but it was inevitable. The Age of Empire and Colonialism in the West ran from the early 1500s to the colonial rivalries of the 'New Imperialism' in ~1875 - 1914. In the latter period there was a notable speedup in colonial acquisitions and an increase in the number of countries seeking colonies. In the early 1900s the military union of France, British Empire, and Russia became known as the 'Allied Powers'. The military union of Germany, Austria-Hungary, and the Ottoman Empire became known as the 'Central Powers'. Given the: 1) Number of shared boundaries and the close proximity of the countries listed above (excepting Russia); and 2) The 'New Imperialism' competition; 3) It was inevitable some of those countries would start competing for land in Europe. Those who saw such a situation developing were predicting war among several nations in Europe 15-20 years before WWI started.

Ok, this is probably going to get buried in everything, but I saw this older TikTok, and it was about the overturning of Roe vs, Wade, and it really just caused me to take a step back and look at it from a new perspective. So the woman in the video basically said she was in one of her college classes, and the topic of abortions came up. And her professor said that abortions were first made illegal, like the law was first passed in the 1860’s. And what else happened during the 1860’s. Slavery was abolished in America. AND THAT IS WHY SO MANY PEOPLE WANTED ABORTION OVERTURNED. BECAUSE THEY HAD NO SLAVES TO WORK FOR THEM, AND THEY THOUGHT IF WOMEN WERE FORCED TO GIVE BIRTH, THEY WOULD HAVE A LABOUR FORCE TO WORK FOR THEM AGAIN. Just, think about that for a second.

Oh gods, there are so many twisted moments in history. Human history is full of horrific events like mass theft, rape, child abuse, Will Smith movies, and genocide. With that, I think maybe on the strange side might be the Great Emu War. Some time between the First and Second World Wars, the Australian government decided they needed to cull the emu population. And what better way of doing this than with fully automatic assault weapons. After 6 days of "battle" and thousands of rounds of ammunition had been used, not one emu had been killed. The farmers who started the "war" made multiple requests for military aid, but were denied each time. In the end, the government used a bounty system, and while tens of thousands of emus were culled over a period of about 10 years, the emus are still considered the victors of the conflict. I'm not an Aussie, so I'm sure I'm missing important details, but I remember reading this story some years ago and thought it quite funny.

Not really a missed detail, just adding detail to show how absolutely they failed....they lost MULTIPLE attempted wars on the emus. During the conflict you're describing, they mounted guns on the back of a truck bc they couldn't keep up with the emus speed on foot. Obviously shooting guns from the back of a truck driving over open terrain worked wonders. Some emus took bullets. None died. Emus are tiny gods and we exist only so they have more fuel for their humor. Gods what is it with BIRDS being the demonic a******s. Rapist and necrophiliac ducks, murder geese (ie, all of them), and immortal emus. The dinos didn't evolve into birds; the birds f*****g absorbed their essence.

What of the West Bank, the piece of land that was never meant to be under Israeli control from 1948, through the decades of war and conflict, unto, today. East Jerusalem is part of the West Bank, yet you find Israeli control of it. Even further in the West Bank, you find Israeli military checkpoints, not to mention the “security wall” that doesn’t even follow the West Bank border to begin with, cutting more land away from Palestinians. Even the West Bank’s border with Jordan, Israel controls it. And even still, Israel funds the building of settlements in the West Bank and even provides soldiers to protect the settlers. All in the West Bank, an area where under no law since Israel’s creation was meant to be under Israeli control.

The dancing plague of 1518. Strausbourg. Literally what it sounded like: one woman walked outside a bar in July and began gyrating and dancing. People began joining her. They wouldn't (or maybe couldn't is a better word) stop. After the first week, the city just collectively shrugged, decided the kids just had hot blood and needed to dance their problems away. So yeah, of course they built a stage for them and even hired professional dancers to join them. Then people began suffering and dying from all kinds of obvious issues you'd have dancing for literally a week straight (imagine THAT smell). Heat stroke, regular strokes, heart attacks....and everyone just kept dancing. By August, over 400 had been sucked into the mania. In September they'd had enough and shipped the conga line from Hell off to a mountain somewhere to pray about it. Making it worse: Strausbourg was not living it's best life at the time. The classics you'd think of for early sixteenth century: disease and famine. So, imagine you've lost your entire family. Half you watched starve, the other half you watched get sicker and sicker until they stopped moving. Now here comes some footloosed jerkwads just dancing away in the city streets (seemingly) without a care in the world. Had to feel almost like, "Eff yo dead kids Mike! Gloria was right and the rhythm hath gotten me! It hath gotten us ALL!! 🎶🎶🤘" Making it worser: This event was incredibly well documented, so...it happened. There's absolutely no denying that: this really, truly happened as I've written it. It wasn't even the only well documented outbreak of such phenomena. Just the deadliest one. Finally, the worst: we really have no strong idea why or what caused it. Some say the people's belief that a particular saint could curse people with dancing and the stress of its time triggered a psychological break. Others suggested they came across some molded food. Religious cult. Again, the classics. So...we know it happened multiple times, and we have no clue why. Maybe it could happen again. After all, none of those explanations explain why it took on such a specific type of mania, and multiple times at that. So maybe the next time YOU start dancing...you just never, ever stop until you drop dead like the Sanderson Sisters had cursed you.

Ehhh, while he did establish the Church of England, he only did it because he wanted to divorce his first wife and marry his second whom he beheaded only 2 years later. It was actually Queen Elizabeth the 1st who established England as a mostly Protestent country during her reign and ushered in peace between the Protestants and the Catholics.

Japanese internment camps in California: my dad took me to see them when I was a kid, to help me understand the reality of war ... people yanked from their homes, businesses confiscated, children scared and confused. Just for being Japanese. This same area is riddled with tunnels that Chinese immigrants used for their cultural traditions. My grandpa was welcomed there, as was my dad. Tunnels sealed off by a*****e mayor who then confiscated all their artifacts.

This comes off as really self-serving, especially compared to the other posts. However, I would agree that unrealistic expectations regarding beauty, physical build, and so on have a detrimental effect on relationships and individuals' sense of self-worth. It leaves us with influencers, Instagram filters, and obsessions with image over substance.

Or the phone call from what we can only say was the west coast from a woman claiming the President was going to be assassinated at a specific time. Now, her original specific time was wrong...which she updated to the correct time, DURING the same call, as if she knew he'd been delayed. He had been; Kennedy was a wee bit behind original schedule that day. Someone DEFINITELY tried warning us, and even had some sort of inside information. We still do not know who this woman was. Only that her call came from Question Mark, US West Coast.

My HS history teacher taught us communism without announcing it. So I was sitting there writing down this new government being formed at that point in history thinking, "Wow...why aren't we all doing this?" He'd done that intentionally to teach us just how very wrong things can go when we live by things that look better in writing than in practice.
