My second cat (rip )used to LOVE cabbage and cauliflower and lettuce and would open the fridge to get them out. My rottweiler ( rip ) used to sort out her food - with appropriate scraps and bits of veggies and stuff- into different piles before she would eat any.

Ginger didn't eat that lettuce, just played with it until she fell asleep 🤷♀️😹 My Australian Terrier, Mighty Mouse, would take a mouthful of kibble, drop it in a pile on the floor, then eat it one piece at a time (she had wonky teeth). Our new dog copied her and still does it, years after MM died, even though she has perfect teeth 😹🤣😹

Renni (my cat) likes to sleep on my chest too, but usually walks to almost my shoulder, stops, backs away, comes back, sits, drops to his belly, gets up, backs away, comes back... Same routine over & over again, always slowly, until I either get mad & push him away (he gives me a dirty look & settles for the lap) or he finally drops to his side & goes to sleep. I can pet him for hours, but if anything else disturbs him, noise outside the apartment, me moving, then he runs away like I kicked him out. I have to nap or watch TV w/o changing channels so he can enjoy his cuddle. Anyone else gets walked over again & again?

Sounds normal to me. I've been privileged to rescue adopt many older cats. And seen many cat behaviors. Cats are prey animals as well as hunters. They are in the middle of the food chain. So they have many survival traits, like the easy to startle, that helped keep their ancestors alive in a difficult world.

My late cat used to prefer lounging on top of cars, so our cars always had paw prints. An aggressive blue Siamese, “Sarge” would jump on the hood while we were still pulling into the driveway or garage, fearless of moving vehicles. No photos, sorry

No photo(thankfully) but my cat, Knuckles, will stand in his litter box, hang his a*s over the edge and c**p on the floor........ Charming little gentleman!!

How rude! 😹🤣😹 Maybe he needs a bigger box? My Mr. Lobster outgrew his standard sized box at 5mos. If he's longhaired, he may not like the way it feels (some times it tickles their bums). Use no more than about 2"/5cm of cat litter. Is it only when he 💩s? They stand differently for that. Maybe try a box with just paper (shredded? paper towels?) in it?

One former cat, Madea (rip, sweet girl) would sit in my lap and tip her head back until I leaned down and kissed her forehead. Of my current cats, Amy is a teeny tiny little thing but is very much the boss, despite Rory being twice her size. And before any Whovians think that their matching names mean they came together – nope, we adopted them separately, both as adults, and were very cautious about introducing them at first. We fully expected to need to take several weeks to work then up to being able to tolerate having another cat around. But Rory managed to bust his way into where we had the new cat, Amy, sequestered off on the very first day we brought her home. Amy took one look at him and the heart eyes haven't stopped since. They are very much a bonded pair now, they play together and groom each other, and get anxious if one of them has to go to the vet without the other. It's really the unicorn scenario of introducing two strange adult cats to each other.

Rory, for his part, came from a house with dogs before we adopted him, and he still has some dog-like mannerisms, like growling at other animals through the window (usually deer). The shelter also had in his file the statement from when his previous family surrendered him: he was apparently beating up & bullying their husky. It went from growling, to swiping at, to full on attacking the dog. He's a big cat, about 15lbs, but not huge or anything, but he was still bullying this poor dog. And the final straw for them? Rory started pooping on the floor right in front of the dog door so the husky couldn't go in or out without walking through it. Such a little a-hole, but now he's MY little a-hole, and he is very much enjoying living in a dog-free home, lmao, and he is just the sweetest cat you could ever meet – as long as you're not a dog!
