It is taught in Australian schools! First in Primary school, where you may not notice that's what it is, but by year 11 & 12 at High school you know what it is and why you are doing it. If you didn't you have no chance completing English exams, for example.

New Rule: the highest paid person in a business cannot make more than 40x the lowest paid person in that business. And usury is outlawed.

40x is too much. 10x I could support. For example, the custodian is paid US$30k. Not enough to live on or have a family. The boss would earn $1.2 million. Raise the janitor to $50k, at 10x the CEO would make $500k, more than enough.

I based this estimate from an article explaining in the 50s-60s U.S., the highest paid employee in a company maid 40x the lowest paid. Over time into the 80s-90s, the highest paid person was getting 400x the lowest paid employee. I wonder what it is now...

Just FYI 'Outlawed' means outside of the law. If something or someone is outlawed it means that no laws apply. For example, if a person is determined to be outlawed and you killed them, you could not be prosecuted within the boundaries of law. If an act is outlawed, then it means that it is not protected by law, you could still do it but there are no legal safeguards. But otherwise, I completely agree.

This is how it used to be in thev50s, 60s and 70s, then the devaluing of fellow human beings and monumental greed kicked in. Remember the 80s when a.holes a plenty were showing off their grandiose egos with the much loved phrase of the time "greed is good. Truly sickening, and now look at where it has led us...

I like the first part. But unfortunately the reality is, if noone can charge interest on loans then noone will lend out money. The money looses value over time. That's why we have interest.

In Victoria we have the beginning of this, as we have a hazard perception test that 'focuses on scenarios where probationary drivers are more likely to be involved in a crash'. It doesn't have the scenario of driving while on phone pre se, but it does have ones where you might be driving while distracted by something else happening outside the car. It would be good to extend this and maybe link it with a defensive driver test, which currently is an additional course you can do.

Someone could probably correct these numbers but... I believe insulin costs around 2-4 US$ per unit to produce. It's sold at anywhere from $120-$350 per unit. The US represents about 15% of the world's insulin use, and about 50% of its profit. I don't think the drug companies that produce it would hurt a lot...especially since I believe it's been around for 100 years or so.

Healthcare should be a human right in any society that pays taxes to create and keep a community. What reason could possibly be better for paying taxes than to keep the community safe from harm be it medical, social or other means? We have laws to protect from criminal behaviour and safe on our roads, sidewalks and public spaces paid by taxes to be enforced, so why not to keep citizens in good health or help the infirm?

I take it you don't enjoy socialism or anything outside of capitalism? Yea taxes suck but so does the price of hospital visits and medication. People's well-being are a human right (stated by the human rights organization) and if that means we have to pay higher taxes for the greater good of everyone's health, then so be it.

I believe in the local half-hour news programs seen on the major networks in the morning, afternoon, and evening. But the 24 saturation of CNN, MSNBC, Fox, and the like are not helpful or healthy, especially when news shows are shown back-to-back with opinion/entertainment shows. It immerses people in a spin zone. Journalism requires time and thought, and trying to fill the gaps on 24/7 news invites trouble.

I would first require all single use containers, packaging and bags to be made out of materials that are 100% biodegradable. Even waterproof containers need to be able to break down to bio friendly matter within five years. Containers for long term storage would be a separate matter, and could use non degradable materials. But straws, coffe lids, soda bottles, sandwich bags, to go containers, plastic cutlery, product presentation materials......it all needs to be biodegradable.

There is an ad on Australian tv post-2021 United Nations Climate Change Conference about the Australian government investing in initiatives to turn rubbish into other items, like benches and board walks. The first thing I thought was, it's great, but I would prefer they use the same funding/effort to prevent the waste products being produced in the first place. For example, making companies producing drinks return to using only glass bottles.

Death taxes. You should be able to earn as much as you want with fairly minimal income taxes. However, you should only be able to leave say 10 million per dependent, all the rest should go to healthcare/education etc. I think this might be the best way to reduce wealth inequality without penalizing people for being productive. Inherited wealth doesn't do society OR those who inherit massive unearned fortunes good in the long run imo.

Yes these are all good ones but what do you mean by tax penalties

    Community Member
4 years ago Created by potrace 1.15, written by Peter Selinger 2001-2017

Well, penalties in the sense that people with more than one child would not receive tax breaks after the first child, and that their tax rate might be higher to help the community deal with the extra children. Twins and such exempted.

Two things. A. no more than one kid? starting to sound like China there. I get trying to reduce the population, but there are better ways to do it than forcing everyone to only have one kid. 2. Animal rights equal human rights? how does that even work? other than that, i pretty much agree with everything else.

I would make cold calling illegal. Any company wanting to reach out to clients and customers have to get their permission and ensure they are certain they want to be contacted for any studies and sales calls. This would be a win-win for both sides. (Canada is getting close to this. A law or regulation just got passed regarding caller ID screening and transparency.) All convicted sex and child predators would have very long prison sentences and must be proven to be rehabilitated and not pose a threat before being released. This is such a huge problem in my city. I would also make it law the justice system must provide supports and counselling services for victims, as well as protective resources if need be or wanted. I would abolish the Indian Act of Canada.

So try not to take it personally, and instead, feel good that you've started some thought-provoking discussions. 🙂

I really don't agree with number one. Imagine if any woman who was r*ped, was allowed to kill their r*pist. many women would do that. the psychological consequences would be huge. Killing a person is not something that anyone should ever do. And i guarantee you, if that was a law, it would be disastrous. Also, men get r*ped as well.

the answer i would like to give would make so many people clutch their pearls in fear of denying their 'g-d' given and/or constitutional rights. let's just say that i would put away all expression of open hate/bigotry/etc as well as practices that show the same. we have come to a time when having such rights have become a fight over whose rights are more important. if it causes harm/pain etc to another then it should not be a right. i realize that such things will probably still exist but let it go back to the holes from which they sprung.

Anyone who claims something is protected by the constitution has to show where and how. Brown vs Board of Education showed that separate but equal violates the constitution. If you can't spout Gibbons v. Ogden and show that the COVID requirement is "“arbitrary, oppressive and unreasonable" shut the F$%k up and get your shot. Don't claim rights you don't have and don't take others away because you don't know better.

That way, every Child would get both sides of the argument, hopefully be able to see where they are ALL coming from, and actually be educated on what other people believe. Hopefully then, instead of just yelling at them and calling them idiots. there could be actual debates and people could learn from each other and accomplish more together.
