    Community Member
3 years ago (edited) Created by potrace 1.15, written by Peter Selinger 2001-2017

Cheddar cut into cubes is best though some use mozzarella instead, it doesn't have enough flavour to hold up against the gravy. Depending on where you are most dairy farms sell curds directly even when stores don't sell them.

Marionberries are a blackberry varietal cultivated in Oregon. Delicious in their fresh, raw form the "comfort" arrives when topped with an oatmeal + brown sugar + butter crumble and baked to crispy perfection. (Just say no to the stodgy, gluey cobbler biscuit.) ///// For added delight, scoop some local vanilla ice cream from either Umpqua or Tillamook Creameries. ///// The recipe to accompany the borrowed photo is available at Crumbs Above Gold food blog. https://crumbsabovegold.wordpress.com/2015/08/05/foraged-wild-marionberry-crisp/

🎶To the tune of Carmen Sandiego🎶 WHERE IN THE WORLD IS DILLMEAT COMFORT FOOD? The interwebs' best guess (from this user's search terms) is that this photo is of Tilliliha, a Finnish meat stew. ——— WANT TO TRY IT YOURSELF? A tilliliha recipe is available on Cookipedia (wikipedia for food? I'm in love!) at https://www.cookipedia.co.uk/recipes_wiki/Tilliliha_(Dill_meat)

My mum, whose grandparents are from Russia on one side, used to make this without the veal - I didn't know hers was the "poor man's" version of this dish.

There is a fine line between snacks and comfort food, but I do think most Dutchies think of fries with mayo and a frikandel (some sort of fried sausage) with curry, mayo and onions as comfort food.

Your fritesaus doesn’t bear any resemblance to mayonaise, it’s way sweeter and smells funny, so please don’t call it mayo.

The Dutch call it frikandel some Belgians call it fricandel the rest of the Flemishcall it curryworst and the limburgians dare to call it a hamburger ( a real hamburger patty they call a flat hamburger)

This brings back memories. My best friend's family is from India, and as a kid her mum would have a big thing of milo in the cupboard. Growing up that we would use to make these insanely rich malted milk drink. I remember that our milk to milo ratio was definetly a hell of a lot more milo (sometimes we would put so much in that it would kind of just float on top of the milk)

It is the national dish of Barbados. It's my mum's definition of comfort food and as such I grew up eating it despite it not being "regional" it is a staple at West Indian restaurants though many Trinidad restaurants make the cornmeal variant, Jamaican and Bajan restaurants make the banana variant with some alterations based on fish availability here (ie. Salmon or cod instead of flying fish).

Haha, admittedly it is really weird to describe but... I've never met anyone who upon eating it didn't like it. It's a little sweet, tangy and starchy from the banana but the fish sauce adds more tang, spice and salt and umami. It's really well balanced with layers of flavour. I make it using my homemade pepper sauce (scorpion peppers, ghost peppers and scotch bonnets). Some countries traditionally make it with raisins, I find that too sweet personally. But it's like a tropical mashed potatoes and gravy. :)
