Police Officer Distracts Little Girl After Father Dies In Tragic Car Accident
This tragic photo shows a heroic police officer from Brighton, Colorado, comforting a little girl at the scene of a car accident where her father was killed. 6 people, including 4 children, were thrown from an SUV at 9:30 a.m. on I-76, though only the father died. The oldest child was five years old and the youngest was an infant, and only the infant was in a car seat or wearing a seat-belt. Witnesses reported that the vehicle lost control when one of its rear tires blew-out.
73 percent of passengers wearing seat-belts who were involved in deadly crashes survived, according to a 2003 study. It’s estimated that seat-belts have saved 255,000 lives in the US since 1975, so keep your family safe! Buckle-up!

Ignore the negative comments... I agree wholeheartedly with you. :)

"only the infant was in a car seat or wearing a seat-belt" This disgusts me.
while this is nice, i think it cheapens the word "heroic" to say that having a little empathy and human compassion toward a child is anything extraordinary. it sets the bar pretty low if picking up a distraught child is considered heroism.
Considering all of the bad press lately surrounding police officers, I don't mind a little hyperbole here.
Load More Replies...This is so sad & so avoidable too. Children especially should never be 'loose' in a car because we have to make their decisions for them so we have to make them good ones. It's become so automatic for me now to put a seat belt on that I wouldn't feel safe without one. And thank God for that kind police officer <3
He has a big heart knowing that he can comfort a little girl when a scene behind him could make him lose control of his emotions.
It shows that most officers really love their job protecting and caring for others. God bless all of you who care!!
awesome officer.... and so sorry for the heartbreak of this family .! Seatbelts do save lives...
Why do people want to get hung up on a singe word? "Heroic" It's a tragedy, seat belts weren't worn and this officer "saved" this little girl from possibly seeing her family's body scattered all over the place. He is a human, he is compassionate and caring. Nuff said.
By that I mean if people say he's a hero, then let it be...he saved her from mental scars didn't he?
Load More Replies...Thanks to all officers that do a tough job everyday and get harassed by stupid people and smile, you do a job that I could never do!
Kindness and understanding is really what it's about. We're here to help others, in whatever capacity we have been given to do that.
There are some people that cannot get it through their thick skulls that wearing a seatbelt could save your life, as in these pictures the father must have been a clever bugger thinking " it will not happen to me ".
There are so many good, self-sacrificing, caring officers out there. Maybe 99%. Why focus on the bad judgment of the 1%? God knows we need these men.
He is not 'heroic' for simply doing his job. He'd probably have put her slightly more at ease by taking his shades off and making eye contact. Assuming the police have some say about press releases of photographs of incidents it would seem more of a police PR. job and a picture that in years to come she wil remember that her dad's dead in the background...but, hey, the cop's a hero!
Isn't he, though? Would you regularly put yourself in the line of fire (literally and figuratively) for people you don't even know?
Load More Replies...That's far from freakin heroic... That's the last time that little girl will remember her father or see him, if that was me as a child, I do not care if my father was or was not bloody, as long as I can see him until the last moment, the cop has no right, stopping that....I think its cruel and selfish "The road to hell is paved with good intentions " What if he had one last word to say...what if he came too for a moment to hold his daughter one last time..you have no idea what you end, when you start thinking you know what's best. Think with your head not with you a blind heart. Let the child see her father as much as possible, for those are the last precious moments she will ever get. Who are we to say we should only see things when its at its best. this is life and that child deserves to see life in all its spectrum. I would HATE the cop who denied me from holding my mom's hand any time. Maybe you do not wanna see blood but for others, they just see there mom thought the blood.

Its very nice, but seriously calling a cop a "hero" for this is ridiculous. Hero is WAY overused in the media lately. This should just be considered everyday, normal, responsible behaviour. Hero? No.
