Sprout Hair Pins Are The Latest Trend In China

Sprout- and other plant-related hairpins are an unexpected new trend in China. The craze took off in Chengdu, the capital of China’s southwestern Sichuan province, sometime in early September. No one knows how it began, but now men, women, and children can all be seen with plastic plants growing out of their heads. The pins sell for around 1 USD.

“People need something fresh to enrich their mundane life,” explained sociologist Gao Xuanyang to CNN. “Be it a hairclip, a purse or a T-shirt. The ones who follow the trend don’t really want to know the meaning behind it. They only want to show off their hipness by wearing the sprout clips.”

I just love how there's no reason behind the trend, they just wear it & they don't care about what people thinks of it, it's so cool.

It's cute! I've been seeing art of characters (human and non) with sprouts/flowers/leaves/etc on their heads for years. It's a wonder this hasn't become a real-life trend earlier.

In ancient China, when people want to sell a living thing, they put a reedy or reedy plant onto them.
