I used to listen to a radio station that advertised itself as 80's, 90's and today (today being early 2000s.) I think that's my excuse for being better with older stuff (even though Beyonce starts in the 90's, I think, I just don't like her singing 😂). Nowadays my music bubble consists of rock and heavy metal and that's pretty much it, but I still listen to radio stations that play 80's-90's now and again. I'd love to know how much of our brains are filled with useless song lyrics. I know if you figuratively dissected me; most of my brain would consist of them.

Every era has good and bad music (I remember the 80s, there was plenty of bad music!). The stuff you hear on the classic rock stations is just the good stuff, and all the bad stuff is ignored. It will be the same in a few decades when we look back at the 2020s.

This is a very naive view of how music works. Today's "oldies" are hit songs our parents and grandparents used to listen to and some younger people too, thanks to older generations. Many of these songs were hated by older people back then (rock'n'roll, metal, disco and the use of synthesizers were all despised at some point). In the next 30-50 years the same thing is going to happen. Today's music will be well remembered and its detractors will be either dead or very old. The idea that Lady Gaga, Billie Eilish, Bruno Mars and others will be forgotten by those who enjoy their music now is ludicrous. Of course, many minor artists will be forgotten, but that's true for old music now as well.
