5-Year-Old Wins The Hearts Of 53k Instagram Followers With Her Huge Hair But Some People Are Concerned
Mia Aflalo is only 5-years-old and has already made her mark on the fashion market and the internet, thanks to her naturally long, beautiful hair. Born in Tel Aviv, Israel, this little girl has racked up 53.2k Instagram followers and been featured in British Vogue.
While this level of success could lead to the makings of a diva, Mia’s hairstylist Sagi Dahari told The Daily Mail she’s quite the opposite. “Princess Mia” never complains or argues. Rather, she prefers to “wait patiently and smile at everyone.”
Despite her numerous fans, many people find exposing a child so young to such a level of social media and public limelight is harmful. One commenter noted “It’s not just the friends you want to impress who go on Instagram, there are bad people everywhere. You are endangering her life as well as her present and future mental health.”
Others disagreed and believed the amazing photos were all in good fun, like one commenter who said: ‘I hardly think this beautiful girl cares how she looks for random strangers on the internet. She most likely feels pretty and confident, as she is!’

Share on FacebookI don't particularly agree with it. We are dealing with the backlash from a "generation of narcissism" which is putting great pressure on men and women alike to conform to standards that are not only hard to meet, but also completely facile and meaningless. The luck of our genetic make-up or our online social prowess should not be tied to our self worth. However, I don't know this family, and its not for me to condemn or assume to know them. If the child is happy and healthy than cool, I'm just not sure if we should be promoting beauty in this way.
if she's having fun, great. Let her go for it. The money can get her a first class education. One hopes that the instant it stops being fun, her parents will pull her out of the business. I have one prediction, though. In about ten years, in a fit of adolescent angst, she's going to take a pair of sewing shears to her hair. //// It's a teenager thing.
Load More Replies...The child is undisputably beautiful but whenever I see this kind of thing I can;t help thinking of a "stage Mom'' or Dad trying to live the life they wish they had experienced through their child.
I cannot speak to whether the child is affected by being a model, or if she enjoys her work. I do think displaying a small child in beauty posses is very, very inappropriate and dangerous. These pictures sexualize the child.
Dressing up once like this, would be a great day for mum and daughter. Doing this regularly however is writing the future of this child in the language of self idolisation. If that's what the mum wants, fine. The kid is an empty slate. She could be running around in dungarees with a bucket and get dirty playing in the garden, learning about physical limits and healthy interactions with others and nature or..... ...or she could be growing up having to look like she's 15 years older and liking it because of the kardashians and mum's vanity. Both valid. Both will produce a different kind of person. And it is the mum that will set the course. I just hope it is the best for the little girl.
Child pageant USA and other c**p that should be illegal because mothers want their children to be what they never could have been...
Either I REALLY don't get makeup these days or maybe I'm missing something... sure there were a couple pictures where she had lipstick and stuff on but the people complaining about making her up...she just looks like a naturally beautiful little girl with amazing hair! If she is enjoying herself then let her be however the minute she wants to quit and do something else either while remaining in the public eye or completely out of it the parents need to support it and not force her to be in the public eye. She is beautiful and I adore her hair stop being so judgy to such a cutie pie and if she's happy be happy for her!
Yes I agree, didn't really see any makeup. People are so stupid. If she was in a Carter's ad as a model no one would say anything negative

Why would you not follow a five year old on Instagram? Are 5 year olds not worthy of being followed? There are trees and buildings that have Instagram accounts and people follow them.

Yes big bow head is adorable. What great hair and those beautiful eyes
Load More Replies...Can we please make pur brain work a little by asking some simple questions: who is the target audience of these photos, for what purpose are they taken? What message do they convey? If it's just to show how beautiful her hair is, what is the purpose of dressing her like an adult? For which public is she dressed as an adult? Who gains satisfaction by seeing her dressed like an adult, and is it wholesome or not?
Um, you don’t know many Israelis, I’m guessing. I’m married to my one and of course everybody is different. It’s a different culture... not better or worse. A good Israeli friend in the Jewelry trade once explained to me the difference between the attitude of an Israeli Jew and an American Jew; he said “Israelis live for today, because tomorrow may never come.”
I've just been to Israel and this is kinda how I explained the Israeli attitude. But grown ups can decide for themselves to live in this survival mode. But it would be nice to let a child be child for them it is always carpe diem and that means to have lots and lots of fun. Dress up and pampering is fun once in a while. Also for many other instagram kids it is a pity they will never be able to choose how much of them is published online.
Load More Replies...I don't understand in the slightest how people can be concerned about this. So what, a kid has better hair than you? I bet my kidney this kid lives a relatively regular life.
I don't see southern baby pageant because she's missing the fake teeth, fake nails, 7lbs of makeup, fake tan. All I see is hair being done. I got my first perm at like 2 or 3 years old. Why? Because my aunt was a hair stylist and every piece of hair in our family belonged to her experiments lol. And my mom took pictures of everything. When I played dress up with my little cousins by doing fun hair and play makeup, I took pictures. Just didn't have the internet to post pictures.
What the critics arent seeing is the time after this. Its basically dress up. My daughter loves to have her hair done. She loves to dress up. She hates makeup lol. With hair like that, this girl is spending hours a week getting it braided before she goes to bed so she doesnt wake up to a rats nest. Im sure this isnt a daily thing. Let the girl do it if she enjoys it.
Just curious. What would cause such massive hair growth? Is it strictly genetics? It seems like it would be uncomfortable, especially for a kid.
The hair is the luck of the gene pool. You're either born with great hair or you aren't. My father's sisters had hair like this, and to add insult to injury, they didn't go grey until they were well into their 60s. /// Note I was born with very slightly wavy copper blonde hair that NEVER obeyed me.
Load More Replies...Well that's a complete and utter falsehood. Saying "kids" implies all kids. Obviously not all kids enjoy childhood, but not all kids don't enjoy childhood either. Saying "no longer" implies that all kids in the past enjoyed their childhood, which is also false. Many kids in the past had even less childhood than kids today. Alright, now feel free to downvote me, because it's bored Panda and I know this platform gets a little down vote crazy, so I may as well just expect it.
Load More Replies...Personally, I loved dressing up as a child, and I very barely put my mom's lipstick on. I used to go out a lot, climb trees and everything but every now and then, I also dreamed of being famous. Who says she doesn't enjoy this herself, maybe she wants this? Also, not saying this ok, but in some cultures it's very common to get a girl's ears pierced at a very young age.
Effing ridiculous! The make-up too. Let her be a child. Hopefully she's not (yet?) got to the child beauty pageant stage which seems to bring nothing but disaster.
My 5 year old daughter always wants me to do elaborate hairstyles (and I suck at doing hair and have had to watch many youtube videos trying to get better). She also loves when I photograph her. It makes her feel pretty and special - something that a lot of little girls need (confidence in themselves). So I can't poo poo the parents. Maybe this is what SHE wants to do! What is the difference between this and 2 tee-ball games a week? Or getting dressed for ballet?
What is wrong with adults who think that photos like these are innocent? They obviously are sexualizing this child. What do you think pedophiles do with photos like these? Are said adults unimaginably innocent, ignorant, stupid, or mentally ill? God protect these children.
I mean, if the kid is genuinely happy, what's the problem, it's just an extreme version of dressing up. Maybe the problem is how extreme and where does it go from here. Kids can go through a lot worse than this and come out the other side broken or fine, time will tell I guess. My Daughter loves having her hair done and dressing up, but then she also loves walking in the mud with no shoes and socks on, drawing rainbows and eating marshmallows... this kid probably does too, but we just don't see that part of their life.
Nope. We see a couple snapshots and that's all we need to have a complete understanding of the intricacies of her life and is certainly enough to pass proper judgment on. This is the internet, stellermatt.
Load More Replies...thats the thing. there is two sides to it all. the first thing is that if they were like making her do this or her parents forcing her to do such thing then i would disagree, on the other hand, she seems quite happy as she is and if this is something which she enjoys and does herself then good on her and i fully support this. but overall, im glad she's famous for her hair and stuff rather than other things because sometimes children can be famous but also act really inappropriately and such so yea

I think it is very wrong to be doing this to her, in some aspects. Maybe let her grow up a bit and then ask her again in a few years if she wants to do this. She's just a kid, and someone that little needs time to learn about the world around them and figure out a bit of who they are. Right now she's just a little girl with fabulous hair. She has her whole life ahead of her to do this, but now is the time to have a childhood. <3
And it's not like she asked to have this hair, either. It's just part of her, and a whole bunch of people have decided to make a big deal of it. It's not like the hair's going anywhere. Who knows, it might just get more fabulous with time ;)

Well when adult men in the little girl's life start sexualizing her, what's the parents to do? When this kid is 13 with a 27 year old boyfriend, what's the parents to do? When this kid is taking pills to be ready for a shoot at 16, what's the parents to do? When the kid is unconscious on the bathroom floor at 26 and broke, what's the parents to do? Don't start what you can't control
If your 5 years old ask you spend your days to take the pictures of her, do her make up and hair styles ... she has a problem. If you push her to this ... you have a problem. Her hairs are gorgeous - cool, but that narcissistic and self-centred education make me sick.
Why is an innocent girl wanting to play dress-up and feel beautiful a problem? I think most little girls have desired beauty at one point or another.

For all of you guys complaining of the costumes sexualizing the girl, they're nothing like the ones you see in toddlers and tiara. Yes, some of the costumes are a little grown up-ish, but it's not revealing by any means. In addition, she's hardly wearing any makeup at all.
I have never understood why in some countries it is allowed to get piercings when you are a very small child. All piercings (also ear piercings) can easily get inflammation and that is very painful. I support the people who only pierce ears of the 10+ year old children and make other piercings when you are 18+.
Although it is easy to get an inflamed piercing, its just as easy to prevent it. They just need to make sure everything is sterile and clean it every so often. No biggie :)
