FaceApp Filter Shows What You’ll Look Like When You’re Older And People Post The Results (30 Pics)
It seems that most of these internet challenges amount to little more than an excuse for people to share yet another photo of themselves. The latest is the 'age challenge,' in which people are encouraged to use the Faceapp photo filter that turns you years older and share it with the world.
We've already featured the baby filter and gender-swap 'viral sensations,' where people played around with themselves and celebrities too, so now, obviously, it's the turn of the old faces. Faceapp uses neural networks and deep learning to modify a face on any photo while keeping it photorealistic, in this case adding the signs getting old including wrinkles, grey hair, and sagging skin. How well it works remains to be seen, I guess we'll find out in the future!

FaceApp is run by a small team from Saint Petersburg, Russia.
“We developed a new technology that uses neural networks to modify a face on any photo while keeping it photorealistic. For example, it can add a smile, change gender and age, or just make you more attractive,” explains founder and CEO Yaroslav Goncharov, a former head of department at Yandex who is funding the project out of his own pocket.

Goncharov said that FaceApp is unique because they don't apply a filter to selfies, they instead use deep learning technology to change the photo itself.
“Our main differentiator is photorealism,” he explained to TechCrunch. “After applying a filter, it is still your photo. Other apps intentionally change a picture in a way it is entertaining, but not a real photo anymore."
“We believe that such entertaining effects are subject to trends, but photorealism is timeless.”
“In addition to a sound product concept, we think that we are quite ahead in terms of technology. As far as I know, there are no products or research papers that can claim similar quality on this task.”
These constant viral 'challenges' have made the app extremely popular, topping the app store charts in many countries.
There's just something about human nature that delights in the concept, apparently. But how long can it last? Adding a smile or some wrinkles to a selfie can be fun once, but quickly gets boring. Now we've done babies, oldies, and gender-swapping, what's next? Who knows. But boy, I just can't wait to find out.

This one looks like a very realistic change. Wish there was a face app that would make our current pics look younger. Does anyone know of one?

Both a couple of Dutch & Belgian Privacy Organisations have been warning for this particular app. As many of you will make this Russian company very THANKFUL for all that free information!
The entire point = Russian companies are not obliged to follow any of the western or EU laws regarding privacy. So basically they can do whatever they want with all that info they collect on you. Not saying that all Russian companies are evil, but after the whole Facebook/Cambridge Analytics-scandal, I think people should be much more careful of these types of "free services". The information needed to process how every single different person ages in his/her life is mind boggling, so I am not surprized that it is "allegedly" downloading entire photo collections. Looking at this in terms of Marketing technique........ this is absolutely BRILLIANT to "dupe" millions of utter morons in giving away the utmost precious of information about themselves.

Wonder how accurate it is? How about someone old takes an old picture from when they were still young and see if it produces accurately?
I used it and it made me look like my father, but also like my late grandfather. I didn't know I looked like my grandfather! :)
No way I am trying this with my picture, my therapist already gets enough of my money without adding more depression to the mix.
The problem is that we are going to have to wait decades to see how accurate the aged pics are.
Save us science! Save us from the horrors! Study the telomeres damnit!

That app can use people’s personal pics and use them in ads if it wanted, without the person’s permission, according to a recent news’ story about their privacy policy (twitter, too, and who knows what other app— a quick google search will show the article that talks about it). So, one might want to rethink installing those apps.

Nope, that is the exact reason why you should not use this app or any app which is vague..... Russian companies are not obliged to all kinds of western- or EU privacy laws. It is basically a huge "black box" whats happens with your information.......

I'm sure most of the female celebrities, and probably a number of the male ones, won't let themselves age this gracefully, but will fight tooth and nail with plastic surgery to keep from ever looking like their FaceApp pics. So it's more "what would they look like if they didn't have 'work' done..?"
Needs a way to enlarge the ears and nose, all of which keep growing as one ages. Jawlines are almost all too taut. Like the aged necks, though, a grim fact of life.
60 years later and they've still got all their hair and the same style.
