It’s no secret that deception online is a big thing. From the comfort of their homes, people can trick us into believing virtually everything—from perfect looks to enviable lives. I mean, who’s there to check up on what’s true or false?
Unless, of course, they give in themselves. And this is what the new TikTok challenge is all about. #CatfishChallenge has TikTokers revealing their real faces behind picture-perfect selfies. Essentially, it totally debunks the belief that everyone looks like supermodels in their daily lives.
Initiated by 22-year-old Australian TikToker @moldogaa, the Catfish Challenge has already amassed 409.3 million views and counting. Others joined in to share their unrecognizable faces and it’s both amusing and kinda illuminating.

It's still definately her with just make up. Not much in terms of editing the pics
That does not even look like her at all, I have hard time believing it's the same person. The only give away would be the piercing on her bottom lip.
Load More Replies...It's good tho! I like her hair aswell in the before pic but I also like the colour of her real pic.
Why is there a halo of the left image behind the girl on the right. Also, she's blond on the left, and brown haired on the right. I don't understand what's going on here... Completely confused.
But this is NO catfish at all. This is Duc Tran and his Drag Queen alter ego Plastique Tiara. He was on RuPaul Drag Race Season 11
I think people need to be happy no matter how they look. The touched up ones look like robots with no soul. The proper ones look like they have lived, they have stories to tell, they can make you laugh and cry. They have SOUL.
I don’t think she is that touched up. She is wearing makeup in the first picture and is in a different pose making a different expression. She looks good both ways.
Load More Replies...I agree with @Not Proud British even with makeup these people look like actual robots. It's creepy because nobody is that beautiful. I want to see these people own the way they look instead of completely change. I literally can't find anybody who looks ugly.
As a 44 year old dude I'm f*****g furious at some other guys comments on this! You DON'T HAVE TO COMMENT SOMEONE'S LOOKS AS THE INSENSITIVE ASSHOLES YOU ARE! JUST F*****G DON'T. F*****g hell... GROW UP, FOR F***S SAKE! 🤬🖕
As a 44 year old you should know writing in all caps is exasperating. Grow up.

The influencer said that she enjoys doing challenges on the platform, but this one she made at random. “I didn’t plan that video at all, that content was taken after a single take and it ended up getting a lot more attention than I ever expected!”
Essentially, the new TikTok video trend debunks the common myth that everyone looks perfect in their daily lives. By revealing their genuine faces behind the makeup and photo editing, the TikTokers made a point that the picture and reality don’t always coincide. These light-hearted and comical videos are hashtagged #catfish to show just how deceiving the pictures can be.
“I would remind everyone to love themselves for who they are. Even in the moments when you don’t look your best. Be comfortable and confident in your skin,” Shanae said. “I enjoy being able to play with makeup and change my look. But at the end of the day, taking all that off and relaxing is the best part of the day.”
Anyone can make themselves look goofy and give themselves a double neck. You go girl!
Actually, I think it's a photo or video filter. You can kind of see she's moved and the filter glitched away from her

STOP WITH THE SHAMING. Catfishing is really terrible but you have to respect the fact that these people were brave enough to show everybody what they look like because mean people like you will shame them.
Bullshit. Obviously the woman on the left is the woman in the back on the right. WTF?
And when it comes to TikTok, the social media influencer said she’s over the moon that so many people “could enjoy my goofy content.”
“I think anybody who wants to put themselves out there as an influencer, dancer, or performer of any kind would be silly to not start a TikTok account. I have seen so many people’s careers take off from the app.” Shanae concluded that nothing about this app that she has experienced really is a downfall. And if it puts smiles on people’s faces, it’s even better!
This one is kinda misleading... I mean... the without makeup is at a different angle/zoom/facial expression.
Why would you want to look like somebody else? Why is being yourself not good enough?
Because ladies sometimes want to look good. Its not just for other people, its fun to get fancied up and look as cute as you can sometimes.
Load More Replies...While I agree women should dress the way they want to for themselves, I however understand that certain beauty standards were made for a certain audience in mind (women's beauty standards have seldom been made for women). When making choices for oneself, I don't think it hurts to think about who's voice it is in your mind when it comes to making certain decisions. So for the women shown in this post, is it their voice telling them to change their looks or someone else's? Every aspect of every person's life has been influenced one way or another. It's not something to be shameful of. Just something to perhaps contemplate from time to time (to make sure you are making decisions that are truly fulfilling to you).
I don't these are the same... look at the nose, on the left she appears to have narrow nose opening, and the right looks much bigger.
Photo shopping your skin to a lighter tone is so wrong! Love the skin your in!
Who are you kidding? Take off the sympathy blinders! 😫
Load More Replies...It would be easier to see if there is a big difference if they did the same angle and expression.
Load More Replies...WHO WILL JOIN ME IN MY QUEST TO COMMENT NICE THINGS IN ATTEMPT TO HIDE THE COMMENTS MADE BY TROLLS SAY AYE
When the lipstick looks like it is just gonna drip off, thats when you know you have too much
Then again if she likes it, it doesn’t really matter what we think
Load More Replies...why is makeup so dark? just the opposite of before. A little color is fine, not like this.
The look on the right makes me cringe. I'm sorry, I'm not trying to be rude, but WHAAAAAT ! On the right, even though she is squinting, you can see she's a pretty girl, with full lips and good skin and hair. The figure on the left looks unreal and gross. IMO obviously.
CORRECTION, THE LOOK ON THE LEFT !!!!!!!
Load More Replies...Hm... this one doesn't have too much difference, from what I can see... just the pose and a few edits to the complexion and eyes.
yep everyone doesnt look at good when they open their mouth and show it to the world
One looks good and the other one looks exactly as good, but laughing
That’s just adding stuff to the eyes. I would take this one down tbh
Why are there so many mean comments here? This woman is very brave, and deserves respect because she is not afraid to deal with bullies.
BE NICE: own your face. I would rather see you as a person than who you wish you were
yeah, I'm pretty sure all of these are to make it like: flattering pic vs. unflattering pic
I agree, the expression is exaggerated, I'm sure if they put a smile and pose they're pretty
Load More Replies...Hiding the mean comment: I love the hair, and I think the weird face is to look unflattering on purpose. Still not ugly, could definitely slay if they embraced who they are
It would be so much more interesting if we could see their actual, normal expression face, not trying to look as ug as possible face...
Yee. Want her as a friend I bet she's hilarious.
Load More Replies...The pic on the left - that is what I look like trying to scare my friends lol she looks pretty
I don't get this. Anyone can make it look like he/she doesn't look good. You actually do, in both pictures.
she looks like somebody that would be fun to sing bohemian rhapsody with.
would wanna be friends w/both of them if i met her with makeup or without...she just is dressed up in theleft pic :D
Lol I love her expression in the second one- btw, anyone else think her hair is GORGEOUS?
All of these pictures with make up have been so filtered it's crazy!!!!!
I think all of these are to make it like: flattering pic vs. unflattering pic
Why did you make the same captain obvious comment twice?
Load More Replies...No one looks their best when laughing so hard you're red in the face lmao
Noone looks their best when laughing at how other people's faces are red either.
Load More Replies...Makeup is fresh a pretty! Not pretentious or overdone. You can see her fun personality in both pictures!
i thought she was violet beauregarde for a sec cause the purple tint i-

Load More Replies...Cannot stand the stupid tongue out thing going on these days.
Says who? Your so rude, you should keep YOUR tongue in your mouth, maybe then those mean things will stop coming out of it.
Load More Replies...it's the thumb trick! You push back the double chin with it i've seen one of my friends do that lmao
Load More Replies...This one doesn't count, she just took a picture in a less flattering angle...Anyone can look "bad/ugly" like that...
That is exactly what they are all doing.... that is what this article is about hahahahahahahaha
Load More Replies...let her do what she wants! I feel super self conscious without makeup, and it makes me more confident- let her do what makes HER happy.
Load More Replies...again sherry, nobody wants to see your nasty ass attitude so put it back in the walmart trash can where you found it
Load More Replies...The only thing I want to say is people, the brows in all these pics are too much. Either too high or too thick or both. They are as unflattering as most of the made-up make up. There is nothing wrong with being yourself.
So they altered their pics to try to attain society's insane beauty standards and also uphold them, and now they are posting their "real" faces with grimaces, weird angles, etc. Social media is so weird sometimes
“They took normal pics / pics with makeup, then they took pics of themselves making the ugliest faces. The sub is called Pretty Girls Ugly Faces.” As a woman who goes no-makeup all the time, I’m glad I have an appointment with my neuro-ophthalmologist on Monday, because I think I rolled my eyes into my brain. Edit: And in case any makeup wearers feel like playing the victim, I don’t give a flying fart what women, men, nonbinary people or anyone else puts on their face. I’m specifically talking about the theatrical “ohhhh bare faces are sooooo ugly” behaviour.
Load More Replies...Yeah... they should have the same pose on both...
Load More Replies...I don't understand how these are "catfishes". It looks to me like the first picture is makeup and filters and the second picture is completely natural. Catfishing is when you start a romance with someone and you aren't who you say you are.
I catfished people since I was 16, before there was a word for it. I had no self-confidence and hated myself for being gay. Then I met someone as a catfish at 18 and fell in love with him. Managed to catfish him for 6 years before he told me he knows I'm not the person I claim. I came clean, it was the worst time in my life. We've been together for 12 years.
Your honesty and ownership shows how far you've come, and I'm so glad you found someone who could pull you out of that situation, before it caused too much damage :)
Load More Replies...Well, no one looks great when they touch the camera with their nose, and make faces, purposely make double chin and so on. So, on the left, we have posing with make up, on the right we have person making face on like 2cm from camera. How is that even.. I don't get it.
