Domestically, the movie fared below expectations, with weekend numbers hitting around $43 million.

“Only ONE person bought tickets for tonight,” said the user named Kangmin Lee. “Yeah, this movie’s gonna flop.”

The social media user went on to share another image of the show’s ticket booking for a Saturday night show.

“I’ve never seen a major movie from Disney have this little interest opening weekend,” he continued. “This is hilariously abysmal.”

Kangmin felt there was no need to remake Snow White. He claimed Disney may have made more money releasing the original 1937 film in theaters nationwide “than the horrible remake that’s flopped miserably.”

“So much more love, creativity, passion, dedication, and beauty in this film from 1937 than the remake slop that came out this weekend in 2025,” he wrote. “Stop remaking the classics with race-swaps and overused liberal tropes pls.”

Experts from the industry shared their thoughts on the film’s performance last weekend.

Entertainment industry consultant Patrick Frater told BBC that the “multiple controversies” surrounding the film may have “dulled” its appeal.

The controversies surrounding the film included netizens questioning why an actress of Colombian descent played the lead character.

“But you don’t particularly see people who look like me or are me playing roles like that. When it was announced, it was a huge thing that was trending on Twitter for days, because all of the people were angry,” she added.

The Disney live-action remake was also criticized for turning the Seven Dwarfs into CGI-created creatures

The Seven Dwarfs being CGI-created magical creatures instead of being characters played by real humans also drew criticism, particularly from Game of Thrones actor Peter Dinklage.

Although the controversies sparked heated discussions online, one expert said it is unlikely that these controversies made an impression on or even reached the film’s core target audience, which they claimed was families and young girls.

“The casual movie-going crowd sees a preview for a trailer or they hear about a movie, and they decide whether they want to go see it based on how they feel about it,” Shawn Robbins, director of analytics at Fandango and founder and owner of Box Office Theory, told CNN.

Comscore analyst Paul Dergarabedian said the poor ticket sales for Snow White’s opening weekend could be because of the surplus of remakes.

“There may be a bit of fatigue on these live-action remakes of classic animated films,” he told the outlet.

We're all tired of the endless remake churn, corporate scriptwriting by committee and so on, and when there have already been Snow White live-actioners (Maleficent etc.) we really didn't need another. So I find it hard to do more than shrug. However, all the "go woke, go broke" shite is just performative bigotry. Which is a bad thing, as apparently that doesn't go without saying these days.

That "get woke, go broke" is bigotry is just an excuse corporations use as shield to hide against criticism behind. If things like story, character development or overall quality get ignored or only half-arsed because ticking off checkboxes is more important people simply won't support it. Take "Charlie's Angels 2019" for example: The movie shows every man as pig, plays down violence with saying "it were only men that got hurt" and the whole marketing was about how this isn't a movie for men. The forseeable failure was blamed on misogyny and how men can't handle women on screen... People are absolutely fine with diversity of all kind on the screen - except for low effort works created for virtue signaling.

They changed the fable too much and made poor decisions in production. I do agree that sometimes remaking a film needs updating, but to eliminate the actual main character's noteworthy traits and plot just to make a stand is not necessary. Next up: Prof. Snape.

@nova rook Because i cant reply you after all your downvotes. maybe some people are upset white culture gets destroyed all the time by all this. these are our stories, if diversity is so important why is it only white people that always get replaced? there were no black or white people in mulan for example. why is it a bad thing to have white people stories portrayed by white people?

I can tell you... that half of those numbers are from the studios buying up tickets. They have to buy a certain number of tickets for each movie they put out... it's a rigged system to inflate the numbers. It's a "guarentee" that the theaters will show the film...... don't be fooled... it didn't make that much money!

After watching it, l don't really care about the change of the storyline, or how pale she is. Simple as that, they're bad actors. I knew as much about Gal Gadot, but Zegler is following on her footsteps. Embarrassingly so. Don't think either one's career is going to be memorable

If Disney doesn't learn from this, I think they may become just a theme park and a TV channel. People are sick of remakes, prequels, sequels and universes. We just want quality, original movies again.

Why are people getting so chewed up over a kids film? It makes no sense, it's a FILM made for KIDS by a CORPORATION that doesn't care about ANYONE'S FEELINGS. Like, there's bigger things to be upset about. Even if it is terrible, and I'm bankin' that it is. Who cares? At the end of the day, it's a kid's film. On the grand scale of things to be concerned about, it's almost completely irrelevant. War, cost of living, bills, etc. Those are some of the things we should be concerned about.

The synopsis: "The character Snow White also leads a revolution, hoping to take back her parents’ home and restore peace in the kingdom." If that's your idea of a good movie, you'd probably have a much better time watching the 2022 Joey King film "The Princess" which is best described as "small teenage girl beats up everybody".

While there's no doubt Disney is going to lose A LOT of money w/ Snow White, these screenshots of zero advanced tickets sold are somewhat disingenuous. Not everyone buys advanced tickets. I went opening day/Friday at 11am and the four people ahead of me purchased their SW tickets at the counter & there were around 8 people total when I took my seat. I could always be mistaken, but it would seem, parents aren't very likely going to take their children to an after 8pm showing certainly not a 10pm showing, and the 7pm on Friday, & w/out knowing how many people were in the theater for the next day showing, again, the screen shot is dubious. The most damning is the actual footage of empty theaters, but again these could all be showing at night when children likely would not be taken to the theaters.

The Dwarf part (no people of small stature, just awful CGI) reminds me of the 2nd Star Trek movie where they cast Benedict Cumberbach as Khan. They didn't wanna insult Indians by hiring an Indian to play the bad guy so they just white-washed Khan's background all together to a colonial brit with a crisp high class accent!

Some MAGAts on this page are really torn up about this movie. And the people crying about, "skin as white as snow" need to put their hoods back on and crawl back under their rocks. Fictional. Person. If you can't get over a fairly tame recasting, you were born in the wrong time. Bet you all cried when Scarlett Johansson was cast as a Japanese woman. Wait. No you weren't.

I don't have anything against the actresses in this movie, both are talented and beautiful women. I (and my kids as well) would simply like to stick to the original, traditional story from Grimm Brothers and this story says Snow White has skin white as snow, lips red as the rose (or as blood), hair black as ebony. The cast just does not fit for us. It's the same reason why we didn't watch The little Mermaid with Hally Berry (who is without doubt a beautiful and talented actress as well). I am not sure if Hans Christian Andersen imagined his little mermaid as shown in the Disney animated movie (which I admit surely has a strong influence on how I and many others imagine the little mermaid) , but as he was from Denmark I don't believe that he imagined her as black girl /woman. Also, I don't want to support this annoying because endless series of terrible remakes.

Including marketing costs, the film cost a MINIMUM of $400 million. It had a domestic box office of $42 million. It's one of the worst opening weekends of ANY disney film. Ziegler can't act, she's loathed by....pretty much everyone, and rightly so, the woke non-sense has been dialed to 11 and they ruined, not only a beloved story, butthe story that literally created disney. Critics have a 42% favorable rating of the film, IMDB with 100,000 reviews has given it a 1.8 out of 10. The fact that it's the only NEW opening of the past weekend, doesn't make it good, and these gaslighting attempts at calling people racist, or sexist, or blah blah blah doesn't change the fact that the theaters are empty, and the movie is a BOMB.

By now it's just "in" to hate on this movie. Hard to tell whether it's really that bad or if it was a negative hate campaign being very successful. I don't doubt that it has issues (most movies have them), but it's hardly the end of Western civilisation. If anything, it's a pity for little children who might have looked forward to watch a movie at the cinema and can't go because their parents are afraid of 'going against peer pressure'.

1st. Most folks who throw the word "Woke" around have no F**king idea what it actually means. 2nd. Peter Dinklage is a loser, and I'm sure the Little folks who didn't get those acting jobs would rather he had shut his effin mouth. 3rd. Gal Gogot supports genocide. PERIOD. 4th. Rachel Zegler is an unfortunate young person with unfortunate opinions. 5th. Don't change a classic storyline.

    1. Woke was a term used by black people to signal wariness about white people being prone to racism against black people. 2. Okay? 3. Can you provide a quote from Gadot where she states she supports genocide? 4. Sorry to hear she is so unfortunate. 5. Stories are always changing and it is weird for people to demand otherwise.

So many little people actors need work, but no - they create cgi fake dwarves. It's supposed to be "live action remake" but they "animate most of the movie. Such a shame.

I can tell you... that half of those numbers are from the studios buying up tickets. They have to buy a certain number of tickets for each movie they put out... it's a rigged system to inflate the numbers. It's a "guarentee" that the theaters will show the film...... don't be fooled... it didn't make that much money!

"unlikely that these controversies made an impression on or even reached the film’s core target audience" Neither did the movie.

Some movies do not need to be remade nor do they need to be live action/cgi messes.

Their theme parks fail as well, they lost so a lot of money with their Star Wars hotel for example

Wait, so if there's a problem anywhere in the world more intense than the current topic that makes the current topic irrelevant???

The synopsis: "The character Snow White also leads a revolution, hoping to take back her parents’ home and restore peace in the kingdom." If that's your idea of a good movie, you'd probably have a much better time watching the 2022 Joey King film "The Princess" which is best described as "small teenage girl beats up everybody".

The movie was destined to fail the second Peter Dinklage opened his mouth.

Stop casting Gal Gogot, she is a Garbage person and and even more garbage actor, I'm sure that's not the only thing wrong with this film but the fact she was cast in any movie is bananas, she can't act at all, comes off as someone reading a script popcorn style in a highschool class room.

I hope, the same will happen with the new Harry Potter, where Snape is played by a black actor. Wake the F.ck up! Between segregation/racism and woke (in the most negative meaning), there is a freaking common sense!
