Teacher Teaches Kids About Sex, Can’t Stop Laughing At Their Questions
Sex Ed is always an awkward, exciting and hilarious part of the curriculum for students, as pubescent teens begin to make sense of the weird hormonal urges taking place in their bodies.
While the easy availability of adult content on the internet means that kids are picking up sexy truths a lot earlier than they used to, the blissful naivity of youth hasn’t been completely corrupted just yet, if these example questions from students after a Sex Ed class are anything to go by.
Shared by the friend of a Sex Ed teacher at elementary school, these hilariously innocent questions are pure gold, and remind us of our own clueless and awkward fumblings around the subject of sex. Scroll down below to check them out for yourself, and let us know what you think in the comments!
In my extended family all the kids have grown up from birth surrounded by animals - chickens, cats, dogs, horses, cows - and reproduction is witnessed and explained from before they go to school. They've all grown up well adjusted and knowing how it all works, they're not traumatised or over-awed by it, and they can spot sexual ignorance, intolerance, and bigotry a mile away. I'm all for sex education from the time the first question is asked - if they're old enough to ask the question they're old enough to hear the answer. Anyone who thinks otherwise is imposing their own sexual insecurities or mal-adjustments onto young people who deserve truth over lies, fairy-tales, or inhibited euphemisms that only lead to embarrasment and potentially serious problems when the kids are older.
I couldn't agree with you more! Most people wanting to take children out of sex education stating 'I want to teach them myself' are usually just trying to slow up the child's learning with some misguided idea it keeps them innocent. Do they not realise that children share things in playgrounds anyway?
The reason why *most* parents who feel sex-ed should be an at-home education is because sex is inherently linked with morality and they'd prefer to teach their child within the bounds of the sexual morality they feel is right.
It is the parents responsibility to teach their children about these topics, the government shouldn't have to do it.
To the folks below that insist "it's the parents job, not the government's"- EVERY time a school cuts sex education the rates of teen pregnancy and sexually transmitted disease infection goes up. Each year, U.S. teens experience as many as 850,000 pregnancies, and youth under age 25 experience about 9.1 million sexually transmitted infections (STIs). By age 18, 70 percent of U.S. females and 62 percent of U.S. males have initiated vaginal sex. NO abstinence-only-until-marriage program has been shown to help teens delay the initiation of sex or to protect themselves when they do initiate sex. Yet, the U.S. government has spent over one billion dollars supporting abstinence-only-until-marriage programs. Although the U.S. government ignores it, adolescents have a fundamental human right to accurate and comprehensive sexual health information. The failure to provide it costs the rest of us billions of dollars.
I agree, but I also would say to explain in age appropriate terms and amount of details. Because some people want to explain everything to fine details at age 3, when kid neither has capacity to understand, nor is interested to know to that level.
Obviously it has to be age appropriate!! There are no teachers trying to teach them everything. Who are you talking about???
Not 3 -- although by then they know that the babby comes out of mummy's tummy - they will ask how it got there
I can clearly remember asking my mum if babies came out of your belly button - she must have been embarrassed because she assured me they did
Chris Jones: I read some stories where people try to explain too much for the kids age.
YES!!
Agreed. It is the truth!
And yet rural america largely voted for trump. So much for enlightenment
Bigotry? What does that have to do with this? I think you're being quite rude and presumptuous. Why are your opinions on this correct? I guess open mindedness wasn't on the curriculum then since you feel so absolutely that the way it's dealt with in your family is the one correct way. I think a parent knows best what's appropriate for their child, it has nothing to do with fairy tales, or sexual insecurities. How dare you condescend like that. That might be what was appropriate for your family, but at least have the humility to accept not every person is the same and there is no one correct way to introduce sex Ed to a child.
The comment has downvotes because Josie seems to be mistaking opinions with years of gathered data and research. You think a parent knows best whats appropriate for their child, but theres years of data (but to be fair all you need is common sense) that the sole fact that you had made a baby doesnt automatically qualify you as an expert in child development. We know the sex ed program lowered teen pregnancies and STDs by a lot. The most important thing said in the original comment is ''if the child is old enough to ask the question its old enough to know the answer'', common sense tells you that if you lie to a child about these topics youre uncomfortable with it will learn to distrust you on these topics, if you shut the child down and dont give them answers they will learn to seek answers elsewhere (parents often think this means kids forgot about the subject). The question then becomes do you want your kid to learn from the internet or their peers or from an educated adult?
Bambi, the sex-ed you're talking about occurs in middle to high school. The topic Josie is focusing on is the population of young children in which there is a varying degree of learning/educational/curiosity levels. I'm not so sure anyone is arguing that pre-teem to teens are ready for at least some kind of sex ed, but grade-school is typically age 11 and below. Dian's comment is exactly opinion, though you're trying to imply that shes somehow siting evidence for grade-school sex ed when really she's being exactly a condescending "knows-best". Lets not create a false equivalency just because someone has a differing opinion than yourself.
I fully agree and don't understand why your comment has downvotes.
Agreed, I found Dian's comment totally pompous and condescending.
BambI I’m wondering what comment you read because I don’t think it was mine. If it was mine, I’m thinking you didn’t read it very closely because you made a bunch of critiques about things I never wrote about. I didn't mistake opinion and data, my comment was a reply to effectively an anecdote ergo opinion. No citation or study, just life experience. I did not claim being parent qualified anyone to be an expert in childhood development. STDs and teen pregnancies I don't believe is something to be discussed with a 0-7 year old. I say that because I don't think it's something that can fully comprehended by a child of that age, I never mentioned lying to a child either, I also never mentioned parental discomfort with discussing it. You've read I think two sentences of my comment, decided that I'm against sex Ed, that's just not true. But there is an appropriate approach for each child depending on their age, level of maturity and intellect. I just think is there at 0-7 years.
When I was about 3 or so I knew that somehow my dad was involved in making me but I didn't know how. So when I asked my mum said that I was very, very small and crawled from my dad into my mum's tummy. However my parent's bed was [as common in Germany] two halves of a big bed, with a gap of about 1cm in between the beds. So I asked how I got across the gap if I was so tiny. Mum didn't know and said I probably jumped. I became a scientist.

Germany doesn't have large beds?
We have large beds - but mostly we have two single mattresses in the frame. Pro: You can sleep much easier, even if the other one's tossing himself around. And you can choose the firmness of the mattress per person (weight, comfort, convenience). Contra: You have a "Besucherritze" ("visitor crack") in between.
I think that explanation is perfect for a child that age
😂😂 “What are you tryin’ to say doc?”
I think it's fantastic to teach young kids about sex. I wish the elementary school my kids go to did. It empowers them, allows them to talk about sex freely which can help prevent sexual abuse.
The Stork and the Gooseberry Bush belief should only last as long as a child believes in Father Christmas
In days gone bye in England - when young children asked where babies came from - it was traditional to tell them the Stork bring them, or that they were found under gooseberry bushes
Oh, in Spain we used to say (grandparents generation) that daddy put a seed into mum's tummy... But after dictature everybody explain plain the reality.
American babies were found under cabbages. We don't have gooseberry bushes, had to find the babies somewhere =)
Gooseberry bush? I don't think many americans know that fairy tale.
Did you then teach them on your own?

I don't know how teaching little 8-year-olds about sex is empowering, it just allows them to understand the inappropriate jokes that they say, and allows them to say them more often. I've experienced this myself as I've "graduated" elementary school a couple years ago.
The sex education (reproduction and contraception) really needs to be taught BEFORE puberty and hormones kick in -it's a bit late when the 12 year old girl is pregnant
you can teach young children the facts of reproduction in humans without harming them - they also need to know that the process is reserved for "grown-ups". so they are aware that it is very wrong if another adult approaches them and tells them it is normal and OK
You can talk about sex without doing jokes and you can do jokes about farts, pee, poo and other physiological items. When your jokes are "inapropiate" it's when you need education in the matter, whatever the matter you use in your inapropiate jokes.
Well, since children touch themselves when they are three and before, when they ask and are curious, when we want to protect them from weird relations with weird adult people... love, afectivity and sex is not some words to make jokes and if it is for you, then you have a problem
*you know, penis in vagina (sorry about spelling, my phone ate few letters)
I think it's more about what's do you mean by "teaching about sex". I think there id nothing wrong with 8years old knowing that men and women have different parts and how babies are made (you know, penis vs, sperm and egg, what happens durring pregnancy, etc). But it's more simple biology, then "sex ed".
The first lesson is consent. I used to teach sex education and counsel teenagers at an STD clinic. I don't think mocking children is okay on any level. They haven't consented to their private questions being tweeted world wide. I realise that they aren't directly identified, but when things go viral on the net it's possible they may read it, or another young person may and feel mocked because they have not had thorough sex education and have similar questions.
This comment deserves more upvotes
The children aren't identified in any way. This was meant to be shared with the class, so they aren't private questions.
Some 10-15 years ago I had some sex ed classes with 15-16 year olds from a professional school (not sure what the equivalent is - where they learn to be mechanics, plumbers and so on). The questions surprised me quite a bit... For instance "Can you get pregnant doing oral" or "Does it prevent pregnancy if you wash with vinegar" (ouch!!!) and so on. That't why sex ed should be done earlier!
Monilip there is no need to be so cruel. Some people aren't clever, which is not their fault, and some people had an awful education. At least they are trying to learn now. Try and have some compassion.
Cruel? People asked stupid questions and I called them stupid. How is that cruel? You prefer word "ignorant"? These 16 years will be able to vote on few years. They arę almost adults. We're not talkng here about teenagers from undeveloped country, who weren't able to get education and learn how to read and simple biology. They lack of knowledge could be understood. If 16years old still believes that from pitting a penis in mouth, you can get pregnant, he/she is stupid. I can't see how calling stupid people stupid is cruel.
@Xandra: If you wash with vinegar BEFORE, that should prevent pregnancy. Lol
Drinking vinegar instead of having sex should prevent pregnancy too ;)
@Xandra - you can call them "naive" or "ignorant", I prefer word "stupid". It's not Rocket Science, it's basic biology. It's like you would say that 16 years old that cannot read is just "naive" and "not good student" and "didn't pay attention on class". No, he's stupid. I'm obviously talking here about teenagers who went to school and had chance to learn and decided not to use it, not people with learning problemas or one's who weren't lucky to get education on the first place.
Stupid is a rather strong word

I'm surprised to learn that 15 years old were so stupid. I never had proper sex ed BUT we had all about pregnancy and how it happens in biology class when we were 10 years old. Haven't these 15 years old had biology class? I mean, how to they think it works - sperm travel from mouth to uterus? It's against biology and 15 years old should have know that! I won't comment vinegar question, it's still stupid but at least it's stupidity "someone told me stupid thing and I believe in it" not "I have basic lack of knowledge of biology" stupidity.
I would say more naive than stupid. Not everyone pays attention in school, may it be biology, geography (as in the other post seen here...) and so on, and not everyone is a good student. I'm glad they asked to correct their assumptions, in any case.
Having taught Sex Ed myself for many many years these questions have brought back memories! "If we both hold our breath when he ejaculates there won't be a baby will there because the sperm and the egg will be oxygen deprived. Is this true?" "What if my penis is so big it gets stuck inside a vagina?" I used to get my students to write any questions they had down on paper and placed into a hat and I would pick them out one at a time and answer them, so no one knew whose question was being read out- that way I knew they where able to get those questions they desperately wanted to know but were too embarrassed to ask. Sounds like this is what this teacher here did too, the best way I think- makes sure all questions that probably sound silly to them so they won't ask, but then realise 90% of the class also wondered all too embarrassed to ask!
That's what I did also, anonymous questions on notes, and those who didn't have any were supposed to write "I don't have any question". There were few of these notes, anyway.

This is great. All of these are valid (albeit somewhat silly) questions that open up the discussion. If we would start teaching about sex and sexual health earlier than high school, we'd avoid a lot of unplanned pregnancies, and misinformation or embarrassment about sex, health and pleasure.
Oh my Gosh these are amazing and hilarious. Straight from the mouths of babes. I love it! My youngest is famous for stuff like this. I hope she grows up to be a comedian because she's hilarous. One of my most fave examples: "My 30th Birthday" Her: "Momma - how old are you? (she was about 5) Me: I'm 30 today Honey. Her: *Look of absolute horror and shock comes across her face and she even pales a little* "Whaaaaat???!! Mom! You should be DEAD!!!" Me: ....... (thanks honey....thanks momma loves you too) We STILL talk about this years later and I tell her I can't wait until she's 30 LMAO!!
My mum was horrified when I asked her if Jesus was around when she was little
Hahaha. That's awesome. Poor momma.
Why did one get the idea that it took 24 hours?
Could also be that they confused ovulation with intercourse. Ovulation only last 24 hours.
@Sabella - no, it's not. Egg can survival only for 24h and it dies (if conception does not happen). Sperm can live few days in vagina/uterus (when women has fertile time and good muscus).
Actually ovulation lasts for a few days. Not 24 hrs.
the term sleeping with someone is quite confusing for a child. If this one knows 24 hoours is overnight, when he/she is sleeping AT the grandparents, it is absolutely logical.
I can't get past "VIRGINIA". lmao Perhaps I'll start calling it that from now on.
And what about poor West Virginia? LOL.
@Dr. Cheri: Is that one of Kanye and Kim's children?
@BusLady...that was really funny...I actually LOL'd!
Ahh, the Virginia from the other side of the tracks. ;)
@Dr. Cheri: I'm glad To make somebody laugh today. 😂

F*ck West Virginia...a little to the left
All the books and teachers told me to "insert" penis into vagina. Nobody said anything about thrusting it in and out for a while :-D
Totally valid questions!
No question is a stupid question.
Well, it clicks for me, don't know about everyone else :D
"If you intercourse longer is the baby born bigger?" cracks me up . The difference between a 6lb baby and a 9lb baby - lol
kids are just so adorable. My 4 year old likes to run in circles ion the livingroom yelling out "mommy has no penis, daddy has a penis, caleb has a penis, sister has no penis" and then tells me I cannot go potty because I have no penis. He asks the names, i tell him, he asks any question I answer it with the proper words. I figure if he's old enough to ask, he's old enough to get a proper educated answer.
My 8 year old learned how babies were made, and the few days after she did, she would giggle out of nowhere when she thought about it.
My 8 year old niece* I don't have children.
I spent my early years on a ranch then moved to the city. We did not have sex Ed until high school. Our teacher had us do the write on index card to be anonymous. Some of these sounds like that. I am so glad that they are starting earlier now.
Very nice
"HOW DO YOU STAY AWAKE"... well if you're a man you don't. You go to sleep immediately after.
"Isn't there some other way to make a baby?" Kid, I'm with you. It hurts a lot for something that's supposed to be cool but that's just my opinion
Why call someone "Kid" when you're a kid?
Forget that incident. My little sister did that literally A YEAR AGO.
I'm seriously SO HAPPY TO HEAR that your friend is teaching some Sex Ed. That's great!!! & these kids have lots of questions obviously. I love it! LOL! Gotta love em.
Haha
I am laughing so hard I'm dying!!!! I can just picture the hard time my students would give a Sex Ed teacher!!!!!
Most of them try to shock and embarrass the teacher (the older ones). If that doesn't work, the real questions start.
their going to be teaching sex ed again at my school........
My only question is, why are they learning Sex ED in elementary??
Sex Ed has been replaced with Health Class at my school.
I love this kids answer but on the other hand, I think they prob. should be better informed at this age. Parents are doing their kids a disfavor by waiting for the schools to teach sex ed. Honestly, making sex an everyday fact, just like knowing your own body parts and what they are for and what they do should be a natural part of growing up. I know in many European countries sex is no big deal. It's funny how sexual most Americans think they are when really we tend to be quite prudish in a lot of areas like this. Teaching our kids the most basic facts about sex!
Why does everyone keep typing, "that is a big mood." Is this a slang that I am not familiar with?
Sammie really some girls and guys need to stop being sexist
I wish I was that innocent XD I started to slowly lose my 'innocence' when I was 8, mainly because I accidentally found some porn videos in one of my parents' phone. From then on, I became interested in them -_-. Thankfully people still think that I'm innocent.
It was - what the hell is all that hair down there????
i am with you there - I found a stash of porn mags aged 10 - sex ed was a bit tame after that
There is no sex ed here at all, I don't even know why...
*my opinion about teaching sex to kids who should still believe the stork brought them* - commence with the downvotes please...
Sorry, to be clear, are you saying this IS your opinion? Though children of elementary school age are surely not likely to believe in the stork... if anyone uses that ancient and weird story still. Earlier and improved sex ed has gone hand in hand with the decline in teenage pregnancies in the UK. Lack of information just leads to misinformation in the playground as some children will know more than others but won't be skilled at teaching. Parents need to stop being so flipping pathetic and grow a backbone. It isn't knowledge that causes problems, it's guessing and experimenting because children don't know the facts.
Elementary school is a bit young.
It would be funny if it was not so tragic.
How old are those children? Because we were taught at 11years old,how the reproductive system works at biology,so many of these question are just very stupid and sad. And the sex ed was at 12,and many of us already knew from parents. My mum explained menstruation to me when I was 5yo. The sooner you exolain, the better, than the other kids dont laugh at you.

This whole story screams made up. Do schools teach sex ed in grade schools? They sure didn't when I was young. Plus, all the "innocent" questions reek of being made up by an adult. I don't buy any of it.
Yeah, I don't see this as legit either. I remember getting the period talk in 4th grade, then another basic sex talk in about 6th. I had zero questions both grades.

I realise that they aren't directly identified, but when things go viral on the net it's possible they may read it, or another young person may and feel mocked because they have not had thorough sex education and have similar questions.

@BusLady...that was really funny...I actually LOL'd!
Ahh, the Virginia from the other side of the tracks. ;)
@Dr. Cheri: I'm glad To make somebody laugh today. 😂
Mountain momma. Take me hoooome

"If you have intercourse longer is the baby born bigger? I think the kid is confusing a penis with an air pump. Let's hope the teacher set him straight before he gets a flat tire on his bike.

I'm hoping the the woman wanting to name her daughter Penise was just kiding. The kid would be so bullied and besides, there are already more than enough weird names and names with unusual spellings out there.
